How to Validate Intent Signals With Claude

One prompt counts your audience with and without a signal, so you see how much the signal narrows the list before you spend a record.

A signal is worth using only if it narrows the list to people you can reach. LeadOcean does not sell third-party intent scores. It lets you test a signal you can filter on, here a detected CRM on the company site. Connect https://api.leadocean.io/mcp first. Setup is on the MCP page.

The prompt

text
Validate one intent signal: "company runs a CRM".
1. Call leadocean_list_enum_values for tech_category with q "CRM"
and for job_level, to confirm the exact strings.
2. Call leadocean_count_leads twice with jobLevel C-Team and VP,
jobFunction Sales & Business Development, country US,
employeeRange 51-200. Run 1: no signal.
   Run 2: add technologyCategories CRM.
3. Report both counts, the signal share (run 2 divided by run 1),
and the filters used. Say what the count is, for example mailable people.
4. Do not call leadocean_search_leads until I say go.

What it resolves to

FilterValue
jobLevelC-Team, VP
jobFunctionSales & Business Development
countryUS
employeeRange51-200
technologyCategoriesCRM (run 2 only)

The signal is the detected technology. It comes from the company's own website, so it only covers the crawled companies, about 7.8M. A company with no crawl is not a company with no CRM.

How many match

On 1 October 2026, run 2 returned 119 mailable people. Run 1 returned 34,747. The signal keeps about 0.3% of the audience.

Filters: jobLevel C-Team and VP, jobFunction Sales & Business Development, country US, employeeRange 51-200, technologyCategories CRM. Mailable means verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all, the count_leads default. Both counts are free.

A share this low says the signal is a poor filter on its own here. Use it to rank a wider list, or pair it with a second signal.

What you get back

Claude returns counts, not rows, until you approve a search. A follow-up search returns rows like the ones below. These are placeholder values, not real records.

TitleCompany sizeIndustryCountry
VP of Sales51-200Computer SoftwareUS
Chief Revenue Officer51-200IT Services and IT ConsultingUS
VP of Business Development51-200Marketing ServicesUS

Variations

  • Test another category: "repeat with technologyCategories Marketing automation instead of CRM".
  • Test a different buyer: "repeat both runs with jobLevel Director and jobFunction Advertising & Marketing".
  • Test a wider market: "drop employeeRange, set country US and GB, and report the share again".

Records it spends

The enum lookups and both counts are free. leadocean_search_leads costs 1 record per person returned, so a limit of 25 costs 25 records. Ask Claude to confirm the cost before it searches. Free gives you 1,000 records one-off with no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
