What it does

The LeadOcean company data API does two jobs. It finds companies by filter, and it turns one domain into a full company record.

The database holds 63M companies (measured September 2026). Company search has 34 filters, from industry, headcount bracket and headquarters country to funding stage, founding year and detected website technology. Each company record also counts how many of our 693M people sit there, and how many are flagged decision makers.

Enrichment takes a website domain or a LinkedIn company URL. There is no lookup by name. With only a name, search first, then enrich the domain you get back.

The same data comes back from the REST API and the MCP server. Use whichever your code or your agent already speaks.

What you get

Every company comes back as leadocean.company.v1. A value we do not hold is null, never guessed.

BlockWhat is in it
company_dataName, domain, description, type, industries, specialties, tags, social links, phones, emails, primary address, number of offices
company_employeesHeadcount, a banded size code, min and max
company_profileFounded date, ownership type, publicly traded flag, Fortune 500 rank
Revenue and fundingcompany_revenue_in_usd with a band, total raised, last round type, date and year, lead investors
classificationNAICS and SIC codes, plus the two-digit NAICS sector
company_detected_technologies[]Product, vendor, category, first and last detected dates
company_metricscompletion_score and marketability_score
metaSources, fetched_at, schema name

Revenue and funding are thin. The docs call revenue a bonus, and funding is held for a small fraction of companies. Do not build a score on either alone.

Technology data covers about 7.8M crawled sites, so the tech list is empty outside that set.

How you use it

In the app

The Exports page at app.leadocean.io has a filter builder, a column picker with presets and the record price before you start. It exports people, with each person's current company name, domain, industry and employee range as columns. One export holds up to 50,000 rows. Company lookup and company search are not app screens. Use the API or an agent. The app has no sequencer, dialer, CRM or Chrome extension.

With the API

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/enrich" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"domain":"acme.com"}'

A hit returns the record above and meta.credits: 1. To list companies instead, send POST /v1/companies/search:

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"employeeRange":["201-500"],"keywords":["warehouse"],"limit":25}'

Each company returned is 1 record. Page with meta.nextCursor. Sizing is free: add count=true as a query parameter with limit 1 and meta.total returns the match count.

From an AI agent

The hosted MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp has 12 tools and signs in with OAuth 2.1, so no key is pasted. The company tools are leadocean_get_company and leadocean_search_companies. Try:

Look up acme.com. Give me headcount, HQ country, last funding round and whether they run Cloudflare.

The agent calls leadocean_get_company with the domain and reads the record. To build a list, it calls leadocean_search_companies.

Pricing

Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat. Free and Pro get the same API and MCP server.

Pro has no per-record price and no credits. Searches, enrichments and lookups are unlimited inside fair use. Past the fair-use line a very large month is paced down to one request a minute until the reset, not cut off. See pricing.

A record is one company or person returned. A company lookup that finds nothing is a 404 and costs nothing. Counts, filter lists and get_account are free.

Limits

  • Rate limit. 100 requests per second per key, on every plan.
  • Search pages. 100 rows per page.
  • Counts. meta.total is capped at 100,000. Filters on funding amount or revenue, and on headquarters city or state, are not reliable for counts, so size those lists by running the search.
  • Unknowns. Range filters on revenue, headcount and founding year return only records where we hold a value. A company with no figure on file is never returned.
  • Exports. 50,000 rows per request, 500,000 per day, 10,000,000 per period. Exports are people rows, not company rows.
  • Company people. GET /v1/companies/{domain}/people stops at 10,000 rows.
  • Contact fields. company_phones[] and company_emails[] carry no verification status in the docs. For verified emails, use the person record.
  • Refresh. The dataset is refreshed monthly, and each record carries its own fetched_at date.

FAQ

What is a company data API?

It is an HTTP API that returns data about businesses: name, industry, headcount, location, funding and the tools they run. You query it from code or an agent. See what is a B2B data API.

Can I look up a company by name?

Not directly. Search with the name filter, then enrich the domain from the result. Enrichment takes a domain or a LinkedIn company URL.

Does a miss cost a record?

No. A company we hold nothing for is a 404 and costs nothing. A company we return costs 1 record, even when its funding block is empty.

Can I use it from Claude or Cursor?

Yes. Connect https://api.leadocean.io/mcp and the agent calls the same lookup and search as the REST API.

How does it compare with other providers?

For a ranked view, read best company data APIs and best B2B data providers with an API. The people side is the people data API.
