The LeadOcean MCP server lets an AI client search, count and enrich 693M people and 63M companies from a prompt. The URL is https://api.leadocean.io/mcp. Sign-in is OAuth 2.1 in your browser, so no API key is pasted into a config file. The free plan gets the same server as Pro.
Each guide below covers one client: the config, the sign-in, a free first prompt, the 12 tools with their record cost, and troubleshooting. The tools read the same database as the REST API and bill the same record. Counts and filter lookups are free. Search, lookups and exports cost 1 record per person, company or row returned.
AI assistants
- Claude: add LeadOcean as a connector and ask for leads in chat.
- Claude Code: one
claude mcp addcommand, then sign in from/mcp. - ChatGPT: connect the server to ChatGPT and run lead searches from a conversation.
Code editors
- Cursor: add the server to Cursor and query people data while you build.
- VS Code: register the server in VS Code and use it from agent mode.
- Windsurf: connect LeadOcean to Windsurf and pull records without leaving the editor.
Workflow tools
- n8n: call LeadOcean tools from an n8n workflow.
The 12 tools at a glance
Every client sees the same 12 tools. Six are free: count_leads, list_filters, list_enum_values, get_account, get_export and list_exports. The other six spend records:
search_leadsandsearch_companies: 1 record per person or company returned.get_lead,get_companyandfind_phone: 1 record each. Aget_leadcall that finds nobody costs nothing.export_leads: 1 record per row.

How to choose
- You work in chat and want answers fast. Use Claude or ChatGPT. Start with a count, then pull a small sample.
- You live in a terminal. Use Claude Code. It is one command, and you can script around it.
- You build in an editor. Use Cursor, VS Code or Windsurf. The server sits next to your code.
- You need a repeatable pipeline. Use n8n for a workflow, or call the REST API from your own code. See integrations for the other connectors.
- You only need one lookup type. Read the enrichments pages. Each names the endpoint and the MCP tool it uses.
FAQ
Do I need an API key to use LeadOcean MCP?
No. The MCP server uses OAuth sign-in and the client registers itself. The REST API uses an x-api-key header instead. Both spend records from the same balance.
Is the free plan the same MCP server as Pro?
Yes. Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card, with search and enrich both available. Pro is $499 a month, flat, with unlimited searches and lookups inside fair use. See pricing.
How do I avoid burning records by accident?
Start every session with count_leads, which is free, and give the agent a limit such as "stop after 25 records". Check what is left with get_account, also free. Exports reserve up to your limit when they start, so count first. More no-card tools are listed under free tools.
