How to Remove Your Phone Number From LinkedIn (Privacy Guide)

You remove a phone number from LinkedIn in two places: the account setting and the profile's Contact info box. Then you check whether anyone else still holds it. This guide does all three, and the last one with real API calls.

TL;DR

• Remove the number in Settings and in Contact info. Takes about 5 minutes.
• Removing it from LinkedIn does not remove it from other databases. Two API calls show whether one still lists you.
• The check spends 0 to 2 LeadOcean records. The Free plan has 1,000 for life, no card.

Prerequisites

• A LinkedIn account you can sign in to (you may need your password or an email code).
• Two-step verification turned off, if your phone number is the second factor.
• For the database check: a LeadOcean key in $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY, from https://app.leadocean.io/register. The Free plan runs at 5 requests a second.
• curl, jq and a terminal.

Step 1: Remove the number from your account settings

LinkedIn keeps account numbers under Sign in & security. LinkedIn says numbers added there are not shown on your profile, so this step and Step 2 are separate.

Me > Settings & Privacy > Sign in & security > Phone numbers (under Account access) > Remove

LinkedIn may ask for your password, an emailed code or approval in its app. If the number is your two-step verification method, you may not be able to remove it until you turn two-step off. Source: LinkedIn Help, add and remove phone numbers, checked October 2026.

Step 2: Remove the number from your profile

The profile Contact info box is a separate field. Edit it directly.

Delete the phone field > Save

Step 3: Check whether a contact database still holds your number

LinkedIn is one source. B2B databases collect phones from other places, so a clean profile proves little. Enrich your own profile. Replace the placeholder URL with yours.

Enrich takes exactly one of linkedin_url, email, phone or person_id. Phone numbers come back only with reveal_email set to true, at no extra record. If nobody matches, you get a 404 and spend nothing. If you match, it costs 1 record.

Step 4: Check the number itself

Do the reverse check: send the number you removed and see which profile it maps to.

Step 5: Ask for removal where a record exists

If Step 3 or 4 returns your number, ask the data holder to delete it. Keep the request short and specific.

Please confirm by reply when it is done.

For LeadOcean, use the form at leadocean.io/legal/remove. Give the work email or the profile URL that appears in the data. It needs no account, and the record is added to a suppression list so API responses stop returning it.

What you get

Sizing check on 2026-10-21, using the free leadocean_count_leads MCP tool. The filter was hasPhone: true, country: US. This counts US people with a known phone number. It is not a mailable count.

That is the scale of what a phone-holding database can contain, and why checking yourself is worth five minutes. A person record from enrich looks like this (response shape from the API reference, placeholder values):

An empty or missing contact_phones array means no phone is held for that profile. A 404 means no match at all.
