LeadOcean + Clay: find e-commerce stores, then read one product and its price

LeadOcean supplies the store list from POST /v1/companies/search. A Clay table reads each site for customer type, product and price.

You get a Clay table of e-commerce stores where each row says who the store sells to, what one product is, and what it costs. Clay's template does the reading. It takes a store's website and works out the customer type, one product and its price. Then it calculates what quantity of that product equals your service fee (Clay template, September 2026). It starts from a website. LeadOcean gives you the list of websites to start from.

LeadOcean does not read product pages. It finds the stores and the people to contact. Clay's AI step does the page reading.

How it works

  1. Get a free key. Sign up at app.leadocean.io/register. No card, 1,000 records.
  2. Size the store list. Call GET /v1/companies/count with your filters. It is free and returns an exact total with breakdowns (LeadOcean docs, September 2026). Narrow until the total fits your budget.
  3. Search the stores. Call POST /v1/companies/search, filtered to Shopify sites in one country and one headcount band. Each company returned is one record.
  4. Save the rows as a CSV with company_name and company_domain. A short script or the MCP tool leadocean_search_companies both work.
  5. Import the CSV into Clay. Open Clay's template and duplicate it, then point its website input at your company_domain column.
  6. Run five rows first. Check the customer type, product and price against the live store. Then run the table.
  7. Find the buyer. Call GET /v1/companies/{domain}/people for the stores that pass. Filter to the owner or head of ecommerce.

Configuration

One search request returns the store list. It uses only fields that sit in the company search body.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "technologies": ["Shopify"],
    "employeeRange": ["11-50", "51-200"],
    "hqCountry": ["US"],
    "limit": 100
  }'

Page with the cursor it returns. One search pages to 10,000 rows, then meta.depthCapped turns true (LeadOcean docs, September 2026). Technology data covers about 7.8M of the 67M companies, so the list is the stores LeadOcean has crawled, not every store.

The same filters work through MCP. Ask Claude to count first with leadocean_count_companies, which is free.

Cost at 10,000 rows

10,000 stores cost LeadOcean 10,000 records. The first 1,000 are free, for life.

LeadOcean. Free is $0 for 1,000 records, 5 requests a second, no card. Solo is $97 a month and Agency is $497 a month, both with a fair-use pace and no per-record price (LeadOcean pricing). Bulk CSV export is not on Free, so on Free page the search endpoint instead.

Clay. Growth starts at $495 a month, or $446 a month billed yearly. It includes 6,000 Data Credits and 40,000 Actions a month, and a table holds 50,000 rows on Launch and Growth (Clay pricing, September 2026). Clay's own doc puts a fully enriched record at 6 to 20 Data Credits plus an Action per enrichment (Clay docs, September 2026). Clay publishes no fixed price for the AI reading step. Test five rows and read the credit meter before a 10,000-row run.

FAQ

Does LeadOcean find the product and price?

No. LeadOcean returns companies, technologies, headcount and people. The product and price come from Clay reading the website.

Can I use Shopify only?

Yes, that is the technologies filter in the request above. Remove it for stores on other platforms, with the coverage limit noted.

How do I get the owner's email?

Call GET /v1/companies/{domain}/people, then POST /v1/people/enrich with reveal_email set. Read email_status before sending, because LeadOcean does not refund bounces.

Do I need Clay's Growth plan?

Not for a CSV import. The HTTP API column is the part that needs Growth (Clay pricing, September 2026). A 10,000-row table needs Launch or Growth, since Free tables hold 200 rows (Clay docs, September 2026).
