You get a Clay table with a traffic figure and the company facts you need to judge it, side by side. Clay's template takes a domain, builds a Similarweb link and scrapes traffic with Zenrows (Clay template, September 2026). LeadOcean does not hold web traffic. It adds headcount, industry and detected tech from POST /v1/companies/enrich.
Traffic alone does not tell you who to call. A site with 2M visits and 15 staff is a different lead from one with 200 staff. Sort the table by visits per employee, then filter by industry to get the shortlist.
How it works
- Duplicate the Clay template. Open the web traffic template and duplicate it. Keep the domain cleaning and traffic columns as they are.
- Get a LeadOcean key. Sign up at app.leadocean.io/register. Free has 1,000 records, no card.
- Add an HTTP API column. Choose the HTTP API integration, method POST, URL
https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/enrich. Clay lists this column on Growth and Enterprise (Clay pricing, September 2026). - Send the cleaned domain. Put the template's cleaned domain column in the JSON body, plus the
x-api-keyheader. - Pick field paths. List the paths to return. Clay uses dot notation (Clay docs, September 2026).
- Run five rows, then the table. Check that traffic and company columns fill on the same rows.
Configuration
Set the column like this. /Clean domain is Clay's column reference.
Method: POST
URL: https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/enrich
Headers: x-api-key: <your LeadOcean key>
content-type: application/json
Body: { "domain": "/Clean domain" }
Field paths to return:
data.company_data.company_employees
data.company_data.company_industries
data.company_detected_technologiesTest the same call from a terminal first.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/enrich" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"domain":"acme.com"}'Keep the key in the column header, not in a shared cell.
Field mapping
| LeadOcean field | Clay column | Note |
|---|---|---|
data.company_data.company_employees | Headcount | number_of_employees plus a band in number_of_employees_code. Divide traffic by it for a visits-per-employee score. |
data.company_data.company_industries | Industry | A list of {name2, priority}. Priority 1 is the main one (LeadOcean docs, October 2026). |
data.company_detected_technologies | Tech stack | A list. Present for about 7.8M crawled sites, so empty is normal. |
meta.credits | Records used | 1 on a hit. Useful for auditing. |
Cost at 10,000 rows
LeadOcean is $0 for the first 1,000 domains on Free. Solo at $97 a month covers 10,000, with a fair-use pace, not credits. A hit is one record. A miss is a 404 and costs nothing (LeadOcean docs, September 2026). Solo allows 10k enrichments every 5 hours at 50 requests a second, so one run fits.
Clay is the larger bill. The HTTP column needs Growth, $495 a month billed monthly or $446 billed yearly, and each call uses one Action (Clay pricing, September 2026). Growth includes 40,000 Actions a month. This column takes 10,000 of them. The template's own traffic columns use more, and Clay does not price them on the template page.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| No HTTP API column | Clay Free or Launch plan | Growth and up have it (Clay pricing, September 2026). Or export from LeadOcean as CSV and import. |
| 401 on every row | Wrong header name | Use x-api-key, not Authorization. |
| 404 on some rows | LeadOcean holds nothing for that domain | Expected and free. Leave those cells empty. |
| 402 mid-run | The 1,000 Free records are spent | Move to Solo or stop the run. |
| 429 errors | Over 5 requests a second on Free | Lower the column's rate limit and honor Retry-After. |
| Traffic filled, company empty | Domain still has www. or a path | Send the cleaned domain column, not the raw input. |
FAQ
Does LeadOcean provide web traffic data?
No. Traffic stays with Clay's Similarweb and Zenrows columns. LeadOcean supplies the company facts next to it.
Do I need the Growth plan?
Yes for the HTTP API column. On a lower plan, export companies from LeadOcean and import the CSV.
Does a missed domain cost me?
No LeadOcean record is charged. Clay still spends one Action on the call.
Can I build the list first?
Yes. GET /v1/companies/count sizes a company list for free, and POST /v1/companies/search returns it. See what data enrichment is, what it costs, the CLI route and pricing. Back to integrations.
Put company size next to your traffic numbers. Start free.
Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
