Ask Claude or Cursor what a company runs on and the agent calls get_company for you. One URL, OAuth sign-in, 1 record per lookup.

This page is about setup and prompts. For the endpoint and the full field list, see Company Tech Stack and the REST version. Other clients are on the MCP hub.

Connect the server

The server is https://api.leadocean.io/mcp. It signs in with OAuth 2.1, so there is no key to paste. Create a free account first.

Claude Code. The command format is from the Claude Code MCP docs, September 2026:

bash
claude mcp add --transport http leadocean https://api.leadocean.io/mcp

Then run /mcp in a session and finish the browser sign-in.

Cursor. Add a remote server to mcp.json, in the url form shown in the Cursor MCP docs, September 2026:

json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "leadocean": {
      "url": "https://api.leadocean.io/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Cursor starts the sign-in the first time the server is used. Other clients follow the same pattern, see the LeadOcean MCP docs.

The tool

Tech stack comes back from get_company, listed by the server as leadocean_get_company. It costs 1 record per call.

InputTypeMeaning
domainstringWebsite domain, for example stripe.com. Preferred key.
linkedin_urlURLLinkedIn company page. Use it when you have no domain.

Send one of the two. The REST twin is POST /v1/companies/enrich. To find companies by what they run, use search_companies with technologies (names) or technologyCategories (for example CDN or Analytics). It costs 1 record per company returned.

Prompts that work

PromptWhat the agent callsRecords
"What technologies does stripe.com run? Group them by category."get_company with domain1
"Find 25 companies in the CRM category and list their domains."list_enum_values for tech_category, then search_companies25
"How many people can I email at US companies with 201-500 staff that run a CRM? Do not pull anyone."count_leads with technologyCategories0

Put a record limit in the prompt. "Stop after 25 records" is enough for the agent to hold a batch.

What the agent gets back

The result is one leadocean.company.v1 object. The technology block is company_detected_technologies, from the company docs, September 2026. The sample below has the docs shape with placeholder values.

json
{
  "company": {
    "company_data": {
      "company_name": "Acme",
      "company_domain": "acme.com",
      "company_number_of_detected_technologies": 47
    },
    "company_detected_technologies": [
      {
        "technology_product": { "name": "Cloudflare" },
        "technology_category": { "name2": "Content Delivery Network" },
        "technology_last_detected_date": "2026-08-21"
      }
    ],
    "company_metrics": { "completion_score": 94, "marketability_score": 81 },
    "meta": { "sources": ["own"], "schema": "leadocean.company.v1" }
  }
}

Each entry is a technology found on the company website. The docs also list technology_vendor, tags and first and last detected dates, so the agent can tell a live tool from a retired one. Unknown values are null, never guessed.

Free checks first

count_leads and list_enum_values spend no records. Run them before any paid call.

We ran count_leads on 2026-10-01 with technologyCategories: ["CRM"], hqCountry: ["US"] and employeeRange: ["201-500"]. It returned total: 8659, totalIsExact: true, credits: 0. That counts people with a verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all email, not companies.

Tech data covers about 7.8M crawled company sites. A company outside that set returns an empty list. That is a gap in the crawl, not an error.

Troubleshooting

ErrorCauseFix
401The OAuth sign-in is missing or expired.Run /mcp in Claude Code and re-authenticate. In Cursor, sign in again from the MCP settings.
402The free 1,000 records are spent. The free plan is one-off, it does not reset.Move to Pro at $499 a month.
429Too many calls at once. The limit is 100 requests per second per key.Wait one second and retry. Ask the agent to run lookups in small batches.
Wrong enumA technologyCategories value is not in the list of 105, for example Cdn instead of CDN.Call list_enum_values with name: tech_category and a search term. Use the exact string.

FAQ

Do I need an API key for MCP?

No. The MCP server uses OAuth sign-in. The REST API uses an x-api-key header. Both draw on the same records.

What does a call cost, and what does a miss cost?

A found company costs 1 record. On REST, a company we hold nothing for is a 404 and costs nothing. MCP tools cost what the REST call costs, so an MCP get_company call that finds no company also costs nothing. See the limits docs, September 2026.

Can the agent look up a stack by company name?

No. It needs a domain or a LinkedIn company URL. Compare other tools in best tech stack lookup tools.

The free plan is 1,000 records, one-off, no card.
