A persona map is a one-page grid that lists each buyer role in a target account, what that role cares about, and the message and channel you use to reach it.
One row per role. The columns are the job title or titles, the pain they own, the proof they trust, the first message and the channel. A persona map is the working version of a buyer persona: shorter, tied to named roles and built to drive a list pull.
Why it matters for outbound
A persona map stops you sending one email to everyone. A VP of Sales and a Head of RevOps buy the same product for different reasons, and a single pitch fits neither.
It also fixes the list. Each row becomes a search: a set of titles, a seniority band and a function. Reps then know exactly who to pull at each account and what to say to each one. Without the map, the list is guesswork and the copy is generic.
Example
Say you sell a data tool to US software companies with 201 to 500 employees. You map three roles.
| Persona | Typical titles | Pain | Opening line | Channel |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Economic buyer | CRO, VP Sales | Pipeline misses target | Cut list-building time for your SDRs | |
| Champion | Head of RevOps | Bad data in the CRM | Verified work emails with a status on each | Email, LinkedIn |
| User | SDR Manager | Reps waste hours on research | Pull a named list in minutes |
The values are placeholders. Run it as a test: send the economic buyer at Acme one email, then write the RevOps note for Jane Doe separately. If replies differ by row, the map is working. If they do not, merge the rows.
In LeadOcean data
LeadOcean has no persona object. It gives you the filters that turn a persona row into a list, and it does not store the map itself.
Map each row to title, jobLevel and jobFunction. Enum values are exact strings. jobLevel takes C-Team, VP, Director, Manager, Staff or Other, and a function looks like Sales & Business Development. Check them with list_enum_values. Run the pull with POST /v1/people/search, or GET /v1/companies/{domain}/people for the people at one account.
Size a persona before you spend anything. The free count_leads tool returns mailable people (verified, catch_all_valid, catch_all). On 2026-09-30, jobLevel VP, jobFunction Sales & Business Development and country CA returned 5,066 mailable people.
Each person returned counts as one record. Free is 1,000 records, one-off, with no card. Pro is $499 a month. See /pricing.
