You get a Clay table where each account has its detected technologies, a 1 to 5 openness score toward the technology you sell, and a first line built from both. LeadOcean supplies the stack. A Clay AI column makes the sentiment call. Clay's own template uses AI to judge openness and checks for one named tool (Clay template, September 2026). This recipe swaps the stack guess for measured data.
Sentiment is a prediction, not a data field. LeadOcean holds no sentiment. It holds what a company's site runs.
How it works
- Size the list. Call
GET /v1/companies/countwithtechnologiesand a headcount band. It is free and returns the exact total (LeadOcean docs, October 2026). - Load your accounts into Clay. Use a domain column you already have, or start a table from the source "Import data from an HTTP API" with
GET /v1/companies/search, results pathdata(Clay docs, October 2026). Each company returned is one record. - Add an HTTP API column that enriches by domain. It calls
POST /v1/companies/enrichand returns the detected technologies. Gate it with "Only run if" on a filled domain (Clay docs, October 2026). - Add a formula column called Stack Signal. Flag the tools that matter: a rival of yours, a tool yours replaces, or a tool yours plugs into.
- Add an AI column called Openness. Feed it the technology list and your one-line pitch. Ask for a 1 to 5 score and one reason.
- Add an AI column called Opener. Pass Stack Signal, Openness and its reason. Ask for one sentence under 25 words.
- Filter to Openness 4 and 5, then send. Push the rows to your sequencer.
Configuration
Step 3, the Clay HTTP API column. Save x-api-key once as an HTTP API (Headers) account and select it.
Method: POST
URL: https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/enrich
Header account: LeadOcean (x-api-key)
Body: { "domain": "/Domain" }
Field paths to return:
data.company_detected_technologies
data.company_data.company_number_of_detected_technologies
data.company_data.company_employeesThe same filters as a terminal call, to test before you build the Clay source:
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{
"technologies": ["HubSpot"],
"employeeRange": ["201-500"],
"hqCountry": ["US"],
"limit": 100
}'Technology names match as written. Test a name with the free GET /v1/companies/count before a full run.
Field mapping
| LeadOcean field | Clay column | Note |
|---|---|---|
data.company_data.company_domain | Domain | The join key. |
data.company_detected_technologies[].technology_product.name | Tech list | Input to Stack Signal and Openness. |
data.company_data.company_number_of_detected_technologies | Tech count | A zero means no crawled site, not no tools. |
data.company_data.company_employees | Headcount | Context for the AI column. |
Cost at 10,000 rows
LeadOcean. Enriching 10,000 domains is at most 10,000 records. A domain that finds nothing costs nothing, and counting is free. Free holds 1,000 records for life at 5 requests a second. Solo is $97 a month and Agency is $497 a month, with a fair-use pace and no per-record price (LeadOcean pricing).
Clay. The HTTP API column uses one Action per row and is on Growth and Enterprise only, so 10,000 rows is 10,000 Actions. Growth costs $495 a month billed monthly, or $446 billed yearly, and includes 40,000 Actions (Clay pricing, September 2026). Each AI run is one more Action, plus Data Credits unless you connect your own AI key (Clay docs, October 2026). Two AI columns add 20,000 Actions, so the run uses 30,000. Clay publishes no fixed Data Credit price per AI row.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| Tech list is empty | No crawled site for that company | Skip the row. Do not let the AI guess a stack. |
| Openness is 5 for everyone | The prompt has no reason field | Require a reason tied to a named tool. |
| 401 | Wrong header | Use x-api-key, not Authorization. |
| 402 mid-run | The 1,000 free records are spent | Move to Solo or Agency, or stop. |
| 429 | Over 5 requests a second on Free | Set a lower rate limit on the Clay column. |
FAQ
Does LeadOcean predict sentiment?
No. It returns the technologies a company runs. The sentiment score comes from the AI column you write, so treat it as a ranking aid and read a sample before sending.
How reliable is the tech data?
It covers about 7.8M crawled sites, so a company with no crawled site has no signal (LeadOcean docs, September 2026). To check one domain, use the tech stack checker.
Can I skip Clay?
Yes. Run the search, then score in Claude with the tech stack qualifier. Clay adds the table and the HTTP column.
Do I need a card to try it?
No. The free plan needs no card and gives 1,000 records for life, with every feature.
Back to all integrations. Compare options in tech stack lookup tools.
Personalize every opener from real tech data. Start free.
Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
