LeadOcean + Clay: use company names to get domains

One Clay HTTP API column sends each company name to LeadOcean company search and writes back the website domain. A name with no match costs nothing.

You get a Clay table that turns a column of company names into website domains with one HTTP API call per row. LeadOcean returns the domain from its company search, so you skip the web-search and verification step Clay's own template runs with Claygent (Clay template, October 2026). The HTTP API column needs Clay Growth or higher (Clay pricing, September 2026). LeadOcean needs a free key.

This is a lookup by name, not a fuzzy match. LeadOcean matches the words of the name, so check the result before you trust it.

How it works

  1. Get a LeadOcean key. Sign up at app.leadocean.io/register. Free has 1,000 records, one-off, no card.
  2. Add a name column. Name it Company Name, one company per row.
  3. Add an HTTP API column. Method GET, URL https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search.
  4. Set the query parameters. Key name with the column reference, key limit with 1, so each row costs at most one record. Clay takes column references as query values (Clay docs, October 2026).
  5. Return the result. Set the field path to data. With limit 1 it holds one company, and you map its company_data.company_domain into a Domain column.
  6. Test on five rows. Check hits fill the domain and misses stay empty before you run the table.

Configuration

name is a company name phrase: all words, adjacent. Wrap a value in square brackets for an exact name match (LeadOcean OpenAPI, October 2026).

text
Method: GET
URL: https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search
Query: name = [/Company Name]
          limit = 1
Headers: x-api-key: <your LeadOcean key>
Field paths to return:
          data

In Clay, /Company Name is the column reference. Test the same request from a terminal first.

bash
curl -G "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode "name=[Acme]" \
  --data-urlencode "limit=1"

Expect acme.com style values in company_data.company_domain. A name with no match returns an empty data array.

Field mapping

Each result is a company record. Map these into flat Clay columns.

Cost at 10,000 rows

At 10,000 names, LeadOcean costs $0 for the first 1,000 records on Free, $97 on Solo or $497 on Agency, with no per-record price. A company returned counts one record, and an empty page costs nothing. With limit 1, 10,000 rows use at most 10,000 records.

Clay charges one Action per HTTP API call, so this column takes 10,000 Actions (Clay docs, October 2026). Growth starts at $495 a month, or $446 billed yearly, with 40,000 Actions a month included (Clay pricing, September 2026).

Clay's own template uses Claygent web research instead. That is one Action per row plus Data Credits by model. Web research costs 1 credit a row on Clay's Helium and 3 on Argon; the advanced reasoning models charge a variable amount (Clay docs, October 2026).
