Filter on education to match a school, degree or year, then count the people you can reach. Sizing is free.
education reads the education section of a person's profile. You give it a school name, and add the job level, function and country you want from that school's alumni.
The filter
| Filter | Type | Example values | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
education | array of strings | ["Stanford University"], ["MBA"], ["Indian Institute of Technology"] | Free text, not a closed list. School, degree or year phrases. Several values OR together. |
jobLevel | array of enum | ["C-Team"], ["VP", "Director"] | One of C-Team, VP, Director, Manager, Staff, Other. Exact strings. |
country | array of enum | ["US"], ["GB"] | One of 254 country codes. Resolve with leadocean_list_enum_values. |
Case did not matter in our test: stanford university returned the same count as Stanford University. Length did. A shorter phrase, Stanford, matched more people than the full name. Check the facets before you trust a short phrase.
How many you can reach
Three live counts from leadocean_count_leads, run on 2026-10-01. Each count is mailable people: verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all email, the tool's default. It spent no records.
| Filters | Mailable people |
|---|---|
education Stanford University, jobLevel C-Team, country US | 776 |
education MBA, jobFunction Finance & Accounting, jobLevel VP and Director, country GB | 340 |
education Indian Institute of Technology, jobFunction Engineering, jobLevel VP and Director, country US | 115 |
Counts are small because only profiles that list a school can match. Add a second school and the count grows: ["Stanford University", "MIT"] with the same C-Team and US filters returned 1,130.
The same free call returns facets, so you can see who is in the list without opening a record. The first count above breaks down like this.
| Facet | Largest groups in the 776 |
|---|---|
| Industry | Business Consulting and Services 159, Financial Services 90, Software Development 66, Hospitals and Health Care 56 |
| Seniority | c_suite 515, owner 261 |
| Company size | 10001+ 650, 1-10 40, 11-50 27 |
Run it from an AI agent
Connect the MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp (OAuth sign-in, no key pasted), then ask in plain words.
Find Stanford alumni who are C-level at US companies. Count them first, then show me 25.
The agent counts first with the free tool, then calls leadocean_search_leads with this:
{
"education": ["Stanford University"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
"country": ["US"],
"limit": 25
}The search costs 1 record per person returned. Use leadocean_search_companies when you want companies, not people. It also costs 1 record per company.
Run it with the API
One flat JSON body to POST /v1/people/search. Filters are arrays of strings.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"education": ["Stanford University"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
"country": ["US"],
"limit": 25
}'For the free sizing call, put count=true in the URL (not the body) and set limit to 1.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?count=true" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"education": ["Stanford University"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
"country": ["US"],
"emailStatus": ["verified", "catch_all_valid", "catch_all"],
"limit": 1
}'data comes back empty and meta.countOnly is true. meta.total stops at 100,000 on the REST API.
Export the list
POST /v1/exports takes the same filters inside a filters object. One export is up to 50,000 rows, and an account can export 500,000 rows a day.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/exports" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"name": "stanford-c-level-us",
"filters": {
"education": ["Stanford University"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
"country": ["US"]
},
"limit": 776,
"preset": "search"
}'Poll GET /v1/exports/{id}, then download. Prefer clicking? The Exports page in the app at app.leadocean.io has the filter builder, a column picker, the record price before you start, and a CSV download.
Combine it
- Add
jobFunction(for example["Sales & Business Development"]) andjobLevelto reach alumni who buy. The MBA count above uses Finance & Accounting. See find people. - Add
industry,employeeRangeorhqCountryto pick the company. Alumni at 11-50 person companies are a different list from alumni at 10001+. See find companies. - Add
keywords(for example["founder"]) to match words in the person's own headline or summary. For another way to reach a person, see find an email from a Twitter handle.

FAQ
What can I put in the education filter?
A school name, a degree or a year, as free text. We tested school names (Stanford University, MIT, Indian Institute of Technology) and a degree (MBA). Several values in the array OR together.
Why is the count smaller than I expected?
Only people whose profile lists a school can match. The counts above are also limited to mailable people. Pass emailStatus to count a wider set of addresses.
Do I get names and emails?
A search returns the person's record, and each person costs 1 record. Counting returns only the number and the facets, and is free.
What does it cost?
Counting is free, as are list_filters and list_enum_values. A search costs 1 record per person returned. The free plan has 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
Count your alumni list for free, then pull it
Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
