Filter on investors to list companies a fund led a round in, then size the people you can reach. Sizing is free.
The filter matches lead investor names, not every investor on a cap table. You give a name keyword. LeadOcean returns companies whose lead investors contain it.
The filter
| Filter | Type | Example values | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
investors | array of strings | ["Acme Ventures"], ["Acme"] | Lead investor name keywords. Free text, not a closed list, so there is no enum to resolve. |
fundingType | array of enum | ["Seed"], ["Series A"] | Optional. Round type of the most recent round. 23 exact strings, from leadocean_list_enum_values (name funding_type). |
minLastFundingYear | integer | 2025 | Optional. Funded no earlier than this year. |
investors exists on both company search and people search. A company with no funding on file is never returned. Funding is held for a small fraction of companies, so expect a short list. The record fields are on the company funding page.
Funds appear under different spellings, such as with or without a suffix like LLC or Partners. Try the short form first and widen only if the list is thin. Use the fund's name as it is usually written. A short keyword matches many funds. A full name matches fewer.
How many you can reach
The free count does not reliably apply investors, so there is no investor-specific number on this page. Size the audience with employeeRange, jobLevel and location instead. The investors filter narrows the list at search time. The count tool also does not take fundingType, minFunding or minLastFundingYear.
Two live counts from leadocean_count_leads, run on 1 October 2026 with no investors filter. Each is mailable people: verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all email, the tool's default. It is not a company count. It spent no records.
Filters (no investors) | Mailable people |
|---|---|
jobLevel C-Team, hqCountry US, employeeRange 51-200 | 742,720 |
jobLevel VP and Director, jobFunction Sales & Business Development, hqCountry US, employeeRange 51-200 | 70,756 |
The investors filter then cuts these down to people at companies a fund led a round in. Run a small search and read meta.total to see by how much.
Run it from an AI agent
Connect the MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp (OAuth sign-in, no key pasted), then ask in plain words.
List companies where a lead investor name contains "Acme Ventures" and the company has 51 to 200 employees. Show me 25.
The agent calls leadocean_search_companies with this:
{
"investors": ["Acme Ventures"],
"employeeRange": ["51-200"],
"limit": 25
}It costs 1 record per company returned. Each row is a leadocean.company.v1 record. Names are placeholders here:
| Field | Example |
|---|---|
company_data.company_funding.lead_investors[] | "Acme Ventures" |
company_data.company_funding.last_round_type | "Series A" |
company_data.company_funding.last_round_year | 2025 |
company_data.company_employees | 120, "51-200" |
To reach people at those companies, pass the domains to leadocean_search_leads.
Start with limit 25 and read the rows before you widen. Check that lead_investors[] holds the fund you meant. A loose keyword can pull in funds with similar names, and a 25-row sample shows that for 25 records.
Run it with the API
One flat JSON body to POST /v1/companies/search. Filters are arrays of strings.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/companies/search" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"investors": ["Acme Ventures"],
"employeeRange": ["51-200"],
"limit": 25
}'For the free sizing call, put count=true in the URL (not the body) and set limit to 1.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?count=true" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"investors": ["Acme Ventures"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
"emailStatus": ["verified", "catch_all_valid", "catch_all"],
"limit": 1
}'data comes back empty and meta.countOnly is true. meta.total stops at 100,000 on the REST API.
Export the list
POST /v1/exports takes the same filters inside a filters object. One export is up to 50,000 rows, and an account can export 500,000 rows a day.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/exports" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"name": "acme-ventures-portfolio-c-level",
"filters": {
"investors": ["Acme Ventures"],
"jobLevel": ["C-Team"]
},
"limit": 5000,
"preset": "search"
}'Poll GET /v1/exports/{id}, then download. Prefer clicking? The Exports page in the app at app.leadocean.io has the filter builder, a column picker, the record price before you start, and a CSV download. It exports people, not funding columns.
Combine it
- Add
minLastFundingYear(for example2025) to keep recently funded companies. See find new companies. - Add
employeeRangeto pick a company size. See find companies by headcount. - Add
jobFunctionandjobLevelto reach one buyer at the portfolio. VP and Director in Sales & Business Development is the second count above.
More ways to build a company list are on the find companies hub.
FAQ
Does it find every company a fund backed?
No. It matches lead investor names on the funding record LeadOcean holds. Companies with no funding on file, or where the fund was not the lead, will not match.
Do I need the exact fund name?
No. The filter takes name keywords. A short keyword matches many funds, so add more of the name to narrow it. Check a sample before you export.
Does the count show companies or people?
People. leadocean_count_leads counts mailable people, and it does not reliably apply investors. To see companies, run the search and read meta.count, which costs 1 record per company returned.
Can I find the funds themselves?
Not with this filter. It lists companies a fund backed. To find the fund as a company, search companies by industry with the exact string Venture Capital and Private Equity, then add employeeRange or hqCountry.
What does it cost?
Counting is free, as are list_filters and list_enum_values. A search costs 1 record per company or person returned. The free plan has 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
Size any fund's portfolio for free, then pull it
Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
