Filter on sic, then size the people you can reach with the filters that count. Sizing is free.

sic describes the company, not the person. You pass one or more SIC codes, then add the people you want at those companies. It works on both people search and company search.

The filter

FilterTypeExample valuesNote
sicarray of strings["7372"], ["8742", "7371"]SIC codes as strings, several values OR together. Not a closed list, so there is no enum to resolve.
naicsarray of strings["5415"]The NAICS equivalent. Use it when your list is already in NAICS.
industryarray of enum["Software Development"]One of 534 exact strings. Resolve with leadocean_list_enum_values (name industry, free).

SIC is a code system, not a name search. Pass the four-digit code you already hold, for example 7372 for prepackaged software. Codes in a different format (a three-digit group, a name) are a guess, so test with a count first.

If you have no SIC list, industry is the safer start. See find companies by industry.

How many you can reach

The free count does not reliably apply sic or naics, so there is no code-specific number on this page. Size the audience with industry and location instead. The code filter narrows the list at search time.

These counts ran on 1 October 2026 with leadocean_count_leads, with no sic or naics filter. Each is mailable people: verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all email, the tool's default. They spent no records.

Filters (no sic)Mailable people
jobLevel C-Team, country US, employeeRange 11-50764,727
jobLevel C-Team, VP and Director, hqCountry GB, employeeRange 51-20082,465

Adding sic narrows these at search time. Read meta.total on the first search before you trust a code.

Run it from an AI agent

Connect the MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp (OAuth sign-in, no key pasted), then ask in plain words.

Find C-level people at US companies with SIC code 7372 and 11 to 50 employees. Show me 25.

The agent calls leadocean_search_leads with this:

json
{
  "sic": ["7372"],
  "jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
  "country": ["US"],
  "employeeRange": ["11-50"],
  "limit": 25
}

The search costs 1 record per person returned. Use leadocean_search_companies with the same sic filter when you want companies, not people. It costs 1 record per company.

Run it with the API

One flat JSON body to POST /v1/people/search. Filters are arrays of strings.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "sic": ["7372"],
    "jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
    "country": ["US"],
    "employeeRange": ["11-50"],
    "limit": 25
  }'

For the free sizing call, put count=true in the URL (not the body) and set limit to 1.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?count=true" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "sic": ["7372"],
    "jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
    "country": ["US"],
    "employeeRange": ["11-50"],
    "limit": 1
  }'

data comes back empty and meta.countOnly is true. meta.total stops at 100,000. Check the first call's total before you trust a code. POST /v1/companies/search takes the same sic filter.

Export the list

POST /v1/exports takes the same filters inside a filters object. One export is up to 50,000 rows, and an account can export 500,000 rows a day.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/exports" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
  -d '{
    "name": "sic-7372-c-level-us",
    "filters": {
      "sic": ["7372"],
      "jobLevel": ["C-Team"],
      "country": ["US"],
      "employeeRange": ["11-50"]
    },
    "limit": 5000,
    "preset": "search"
  }'

Poll GET /v1/exports/{id}, then download. Prefer clicking? The Exports page in the app at app.leadocean.io has the filter builder, a column picker, the record price before you start, and a CSV download.

Combine it

  • Add employeeRange or hqCountry to pick company size and headquarters. The two counts above show the effect.
  • Add jobFunction and jobLevel to reach one buyer, for example Sales & Business Development at VP and Director.
  • Add naics next to sic when your source list mixes both code systems. See find companies by NAICS code.

More ways to build a company list are on the find companies page and in the lead sources hub. For a related walkthrough on reaching buyers, see find decision makers.

FAQ

Is SIC or NAICS the better filter?

Use the one your list is already in. The free count does not reliably apply either, so size with industry and location, and let the code narrow the list at search time. If you have neither, start with industry.

Why is there no SIC count on this page?

The free count does not reliably apply sic. We only print numbers we ran, so the counts above leave sic out.

Do I need the four-digit code?

Pass the code as a string in the format you hold, such as "7372". Test it on one small search before you export.

What does it cost?

Counting is free, as are list_filters and list_enum_values. A search costs 1 record per person or company returned. The free plan has 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
