Claude Prompt: Split a List by Email Status

Ask Claude to size the same audience three ways, by email status, so you know what to send, what to test first and what to skip. It works in any MCP client.

One audience is not one list. Split it by email status first, then spend records only on the group you will send to. Connect https://api.leadocean.io/mcp (setup is on the MCP page) and paste the prompt below into Claude or any MCP client.

The prompt

text
I want VPs of Sales in the US, split by email status.
1. Call leadocean_list_enum_values for email_status so you use exact strings.
2. Call leadocean_count_leads three times with jobLevel VP, jobFunction Sales & Business Development, country US, facets=false:
   a. emailStatus verified (send now)
   b. emailStatus catch_all_valid and catch_all (send in small batches)
   c. emailStatus risky, unknown and untested (verify before sending)
3. Give me a table: group, filters, count.
4. Tell me which group to pull first.
5. Do not call any tool that spends records.

What it resolves to

FilterValue
jobLevelVP
jobFunctionSales & Business Development
countryUS
emailStatus (send now)verified
emailStatus (small batches)catch_all_valid, catch_all
emailStatus (verify first)risky, unknown, untested

Never send to invalid, spam_trap, abuse or disposable. The prompt leaves them out on purpose.

How many match

Counts run on 2 October 2026 for jobLevel VP, jobFunction Sales & Business Development, country US. Each count filters on emailStatus, so none of them is the default mailable count.

GroupemailStatus filterPeople
Send nowverified27,093
Small batchescatch_all_valid, catch_all88,243
Verify firstrisky, unknown, untested147,527

A search count of verified is an upper bound. Enrichment confirms each address, and that answer wins. A person can show as verified in search and come back untested on enrichment. As a filter, catch_all also matches catch_all_valid, so the second group already holds both. Untested means nobody has checked the address yet, and LeadOcean lists it as the largest status group.

What you get back

Search rows carry the fields below. These are placeholder values, not real records.

TitleCompany sizeIndustryCountry
VP of Sales51-200Software DevelopmentUS
VP, Business Development201-500IT Services and IT ConsultingUS
Vice President, Sales11-50Marketing ServicesUS

Variations

  • Add "emailType work" to each count to split work addresses from personal ones.
  • Change the audience to "Directors of Marketing in GB" and rerun the three counts.
  • Ask for a fourth group, role, and have Claude explain why shared mailboxes like info@ sit outside your send list.

Records it spends

The enum lookup and every count are free. A later leadocean_search_leads call costs 1 record per person returned. Free gives you 1,000 records one-off with no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
