An email list hygiene tool finds the dead, risky and fake addresses in a list so you can remove them before you send. Anyone who runs cold outreach, owns a CRM or buys lead lists needs one, because every bounce hurts sender reputation.
People leave a hygiene tool for four reasons: the bill at volume, expiring credits, charges for "unknown" answers and a slow API. We read each vendor's pricing page and docs in September and October 2026 to size those limits. ZeroBounce, for one, charges $3,199 for 1M checks as a one-off pack (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026).
Six tools below clean addresses you already hold. LeadOcean is last, because it sells the records with a stored status and does not clean a list you upload. Lists also decay on their own: see email list churn. For a wider verifier ranking, read best email verification tools.
TL;DR
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| MillionVerifier | Lowest bill on a big list | 100 free credits. $39 for 10,000 | $449 one-off |
| Bouncer | Batches with free unknowns | 100 free credits. $8 for 1,000 | $2,000 one-off |
| Clearout | Cleaning and finding in one account | 100 free credits. Starter $23 a month ($16 billed yearly) | $1,400 one-off, or $1,260 a month ($800 billed yearly) |
| ZeroBounce | Real-time checks with API headroom | Freemium 100 credits a month. ONE $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) | $3,199 one-off, or $2,499 a month ($1,999 billed yearly) |
| Emailable | A plain API with large batches | 250 free credits. $38 for 5,000 | $2,100 one-off |
| Kickbox | Sign-up form checks with a sandbox | 100 free. $5 for 500 | $2,999 one-off |
| LeadOcean | Sourcing contacts with a status | Free, 1,000 records one-off. Agency $497 a month | $497 a month flat. Fair use applies |
"1M records" means 1M email checks at one credit each. LeadOcean's row is 1M records returned, not 1M checks. All figures are USD list prices, monthly first and billed-yearly after it.
What we evaluated
- Price at 1M: list price for 1M checks, with the one-off pack where one exists. This is the cost of a full hygiene pass on a large list.
- Unknown and duplicate handling: whether you pay for an answer the tool could not give, or for the same address twice.
- Credit expiry: whether a pack bought for one clean-up is still there for the next one.
- API and speed: single and batch endpoints, stated rate limits and how a large file goes in.
- MCP: whether an agent has a server it can call, or only documentation.
We ran no bounce or accuracy test for this page, so we quote none of our own.
1. MillionVerifier: best for the lowest bill on a big list
MillionVerifier does one job at the lowest list price here. One million checks cost $449 as a one-off pack, about $0.00045 a credit. There is no subscription, and credits never expire (MillionVerifier, October 2026).
The single-check API allows 160 requests per second per account (MillionVerifier help, October 2026). Bulk runs default to about 3,000 emails a minute, so 1M takes about six hours. A file holds at most 1 million emails and 100MB (MillionVerifier help, October 2026).
Read the risky-email terms. A risky or unknown credit is deducted, then added back as a goodwill credit after the run. MillionVerifier can remove that add-back for accounts it flags, and publishes no threshold (MillionVerifier help, October 2026). It verifies addresses and does not find them.
Pros
- $449 for 1M checks, the lowest published price in this group.
- 160 requests per second on the single API.
- Credits never expire and there is no subscription to cancel.
- Catch-all resolution is included in the one credit.
Cons
- Unknown credits come back as goodwill, not by contract.
- No monthly plan. You pick a listed pack.
- Bulk speed is about 3,000 a minute by default.
- No MCP server in its docs, and no finder.
Best for: teams cleaning 100,000 to millions of addresses who want the lowest bill and can buy packs.
Pricing: 100 free credits. 10,000 credits $39. 1M credits $449 (MillionVerifier, October 2026).
2. Bouncer: best for batches with free unknowns
Bouncer charges by the credit, from $8 for 1,000 to $2,000 for 1M. Credits never expire, and Bouncer does not charge for duplicates or unknown results (Bouncer pricing, October 2026). Above 1M you contact sales.
It has three API modes. Real-time is capped at 1,000 requests a minute by default, with higher limits on request (Bouncer API docs, October 2026). Batch takes up to 100,000 emails, and you can create 60 batches a minute (Bouncer API docs, October 2026).
Bouncer also sells a toxicity check that scores addresses from 0 to 5, which suits a hygiene pass before a cold send. Its docs index lists no MCP server (Bouncer docs index, October 2026).
Pros
- No charge for unknown results or duplicates.
- Credits never expire, and 100 free credits to start.
- Batch endpoint of 100,000 emails.
- Toxicity scoring on top of deliverability.
Cons
- $2,000 for 1M is more than four times MillionVerifier's pack.
- Real-time defaults to 1,000 requests a minute, low for sign-up spikes.
- Batches run one after another, so a large batch can hold up small ones.
Best for: engineers who clean large lists in offline batches and want unknowns free.
Pricing: $8 per 1,000 credits, $400 for 100,000, $2,000 for 1M (Bouncer pricing, October 2026).
3. Clearout: best for cleaning and finding in one account
Clearout sells the same credits at three prices. The 1M tier is $1,400 one-off, $1,260 a month on a monthly plan, or $800 a month billed yearly. Credits never expire, and unknown results and duplicates are free (Clearout pricing, October 2026). The page opens on the yearly view, which is the cheapest.
Its API limits depend on credit tier: 190 requests a minute at the 1M one-off pack, and 300 a minute on Pro 1M (Clearout API docs, October 2026). One address at a time, 1M would take about 56 hours, so send bulk files for volume.
Other products share the credit pool. Deep Verify costs 5 credits when it gives a firm answer. A found email costs 4 credits (Clearout pricing guide, October 2026). No MCP server appears in its docs index (Clearout docs, October 2026).
Pros
- Cheaper than ZeroBounce and Kickbox at 1M on every billing route.
- Unknowns and duplicates are free, and credits never expire.
- Finder, reverse lookup and verification share one account.
Cons
- Monthly billing costs more than yearly: $1,260 against $800 a month at 1M.
- 190 to 300 instant checks a minute is slow for real-time spikes.
- Deep Verify is 5 credits per address, so a full deep run costs five times as much.
Best for: teams that clean and find emails in one account and can commit to yearly billing.
Pricing: Starter $23 a month ($16 billed yearly) for 3,000 credits. Pro 1M $1,260 a month ($800 billed yearly) (Clearout pricing, October 2026).
4. ZeroBounce: best for real-time checks with API headroom
ZeroBounce has the highest stated API limit in the group. Its docs give 80,000 requests in 10 seconds, with a one-minute block if you exceed it (ZeroBounce API docs, September 2026). It says it cleans 100,000 addresses in 45 minutes (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026).
Pricing has two routes. Pay as you go is $39 for 2,000 credits and $3,199 for 1M, one-off. ONE is a subscription from $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) that adds inbox, blacklist and DMARC tools. At 1M it is $2,499 a month, or $1,999 billed yearly.
Credits never expire only while a ONE subscription is active. An unknown result costs nothing, and so does a duplicate. Email Finder queries cost 20 credits each (ZeroBounce docs, September 2026). No MCP server appears in those docs.
Pros
- The highest stated real-time rate limit in this group.
- Unknown results and duplicates are free.
- Freemium gives 100 credits every month, not once.
- ONE bundles inbox placement, blacklist monitoring and DMARC.
Cons
- $3,199 for 1M is about seven times MillionVerifier.
- Small packs cost more per credit: $0.0195 at 2,000 against $0.0032 at 1M.
- ONE is a bundle you pay for whether you use the tools or not.
Best for: teams that validate sign-ups in real time and want deliverability tools on one bill.
Pricing: Freemium 100 credits a month. Pay as you go from $39 once. ONE from $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026).
5. Emailable: best for a plain API with large batches
Emailable sits between the cheap packs and ZeroBounce. Credits are $38 for 5,000, $420 for 100,000 and $2,100 for 1M, one-off. They never expire, and a new account gets 250 free credits (Emailable pricing, October 2026).
The batch endpoint takes up to 50,000 emails per request and can post the results to your webhook when the job ends (Emailable API docs, October 2026). Verify allows 25 requests per second and batch allows 5 per second (Emailable rate limits, October 2026).
A test key returns sample results without spending credits. No MCP server appears in its API docs.
Pros
- $2,100 for 1M with no expiry on credits.
- Batches of 50,000 emails with a results webhook.
- Test keys that simulate errors for free.
Cons
- $2,100 for 1M is about four and a half times MillionVerifier.
- Batch calls are capped at 5 a second on standard accounts.
- No monthly price at 1M that we could read.
- No MCP server in its docs.
Best for: developers who want one clear verify endpoint and big batches, without a bundle.
Pricing: 250 free credits. 5,000 credits $38. 100,000 credits $420. 1M credits $2,100 (Emailable pricing, October 2026).
6. Kickbox: best for sign-up form checks with a sandbox
Kickbox is a developer-first verifier with the simplest price list. Credits run $5 for 500, $70 for 10,000, $500 for 100,000 and $2,999 for 1M. It lists one-off packs only, and unknown results are refunded (Kickbox pricing, October 2026). Above 1M you talk to sales.
The API suits checks at the point of capture. Each IP can hold 25 parallel requests, with a separate limit of 8,000 requests per clock minute (Kickbox API docs, October 2026). Batch jobs take lists of up to 1 million addresses by API, and sandbox keys return mock results without spending credits (Kickbox, October 2026).
Kickbox says it guarantees 95% accuracy. That is a vendor claim we did not test.
Pros
- Sandbox keys test your integration without spending credits.
- 8,000 requests a minute, with a clear parallel-request rule.
- Unknown results are refunded.
- Batch jobs up to 1 million addresses by API.
Cons
- $2,999 for 1M is close to ZeroBounce's $3,199.
- No monthly plan on the pricing page, and no price above 1M.
- No MCP server in its docs navigation.
Best for: SaaS teams that stop fake sign-ups at the form and want a clean test mode.
Pricing: 100 free. $70 for 10,000. $500 for 100,000. $2,999 for 1M (Kickbox pricing, October 2026).
7. LeadOcean: best for sourcing contacts with a status attached
LeadOcean keeps a list clean a different way: you buy the list with its status attached. It does not verify addresses you upload, and no endpoint takes a list to clean. It is a people and company database: 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 67M companies. Each email comes back with an email_status, one of 13 values from verified to spam_trap.
You can filter on that status at search time, so a list is built without the bad rows. leadocean_count_leads sizes the list for free before you spend a record. A count that filters on emailStatus is a count by that status, not a promise of mailable addresses. If you hold only domains, find email from a list of domains shows the flow, and best email list providers compares the sources.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"email":"jane@acme.com","reveal_email":true}'Agency is $497 a month flat, with 5 API keys and 200 requests a second per account. Paid plans have a fair-use pace, not credits, so there is no per-check price and no overage invoice. The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 13 tools (LeadOcean MCP docs, October 2026). The status is stored, not a live mail-server check, and the dataset refreshes monthly.
Pros
- Flat $497 a month on Agency, with no per-check cost.
email_statuson every record, filterable at search time.- REST and MCP on every plan, including Free.
- A miss on
POST /v1/people/enrichis a free 404.
Cons
- No bulk endpoint to clean a list you already own.
- The status is stored, so it can age between monthly refreshes.
- No refund for bounced emails. Read
email_statusbefore you send. - The app has an Exports page with CSV download, and no sequencer, dialer or CRM.
Best for: engineers and agents that source contacts and need the address and its status in one call.
Pricing: Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Solo is $97 a month. Agency is $497 a month (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026).

- You validate sign-ups in real time: ZeroBounce for the highest rate limit, Kickbox for sandbox keys and a simple price list.
- You want a plain API with 50,000-email batches: Emailable, at $2,100 for 1M.
- You clean and find emails in one account: Clearout.
- You pull contacts in code or through an agent: LeadOcean. You get the address and its status in one call, at a flat $497 a month on Agency. See LeadOcean pricing.
Verdict
MillionVerifier wins on price for anyone cleaning a list they own, at $449 for 1M against ZeroBounce's $3,199. Bouncer wins for batch users who want unknowns free, and Clearout wins when you also need a finder and can pay yearly. ZeroBounce wins on real-time rate limit, Emailable on a plain API with large batches, and Kickbox on sandbox testing. LeadOcean wins for anyone who buys contacts and cleaning separately today: it returns the address and its status together, but it will not clean a list you upload.
FAQ
What is the cheapest email list hygiene tool at 1M checks?
MillionVerifier, at $449 for a 1M-credit pack (MillionVerifier, October 2026). Clearout is next at $800 a month billed yearly or $1,400 one-off (Clearout pricing, October 2026).
How often should a B2B list be cleaned?
Clean before every large send and after any import. Lists decay as people change jobs, which is the churn described in email list churn.
Do these tools charge for unknown results?
Bouncer, ZeroBounce and Clearout do not charge for unknown results. Kickbox refunds the credit (Kickbox pricing, October 2026). MillionVerifier adds the credit back after the run, and can remove that add-back for flagged accounts.
Which of them have an MCP server?
LeadOcean has one with 13 tools. We found none in the docs of MillionVerifier, Bouncer, Clearout, ZeroBounce, Emailable or Kickbox.
Do credits expire?
Bouncer, MillionVerifier, Clearout and Emailable credits never expire, per their pricing pages. ZeroBounce credits never expire while a ONE subscription is active (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026). Kickbox states no expiry rule we could confirm.
Can LeadOcean clean my existing email list?
No. LeadOcean returns people and companies with a stored email_status. It has no endpoint that verifies a list you upload, so keep a verifier for that job.
Stop paying twice for the same contacts. Start with 1,000 records and see email_status on every address.
Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
