People leave Ocean.io when lookalike search stops being the job and volume becomes the job. Ocean.io bills one credit pool: 0.2 credits per search result, 1 per email found and 10 per phone found (Ocean.io docs, September 2026). Self-serve API keys get 60 requests a minute and 1,000 a day (Ocean.io docs, September 2026). Emails arrive by webhook (Ocean.io docs, September 2026). Its MCP server takes the API token in the URL (Ocean.io docs, September 2026).
This page ranks six alternatives for API and volume buyers. We could not open ocean.io/pricing (bot check), so we quote its docs, not its plan prices. LeadOcean is first for code, agents and volume, but it has no lookalike engine. Tools 2 to 5 do. For a two-column view, see LeadOcean vs Ocean.io.
TL;DR
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| LeadOcean | API, agent and volume buyers | Free (1,000 records, one-off). Pro $499 a month | $499 a month flat. Fair use applies |
| CompanyEnrich | Lookalike companies by API at a public price | Starter $49 a month for 5,000 credits | No public price at 1M. Top public tier is Scale, $549 a month for 500,000 credits (50,000 found emails) |
| Explorium | Lookalikes plus company events | Lite $29.99 for 500 credits, one-off | About $30,000 at $0.015 a credit |
| ZoomInfo (GTM.AI) | Free find-similar and enterprise data | Free 1,000 data credits. Top-ups from $20 | No public 1M price. The slider stops at 100,000 credits for $25,000 ($0.25 each) |
| Lusha | Lookalikes, signals and a Chrome extension | Free, 40 credits a month. Starter $49.90 a month ($37.45 billed yearly) | No public price at 1M. Top public tier is Premium, 10,000 credits a month for $977.40 or 120,000 a year for $9,539.10. Scale is custom |
| Apollo | Reps who want a database and a sequencer | Basic $49 per seat a month, billed annually | About $19,600 a month in seats on yearly billing, $24,750 on monthly |
"1M records" here means 1M work-email lookups that return a result. Figures are list-price arithmetic, and Enterprise quotes are lower. Lookalike search itself is priced in each section.
What we evaluated
- Lookalike search: whether you can seed it with domains or people, how many results come back, and what a result costs.
- API and MCP: which plan opens the API, and whether an agent can search and enrich through the server.
- Price model: flat, credits or seats, and what 1M records a month costs at list price.
- Contact data: stated coverage, email and phone fields, and how they are delivered.
- Limits that bite: default rate limits, plan gates, expiring credits and fair-use clauses.
We read each vendor's pricing page and docs in September 2026. We ran no find-rate or accuracy test for this page, so we quote no quality numbers.
1. LeadOcean: best for API, agent and volume buyers
LeadOcean is one dataset behind one REST API and one MCP server. It holds 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 63M companies. You search with 50 people filters and 34 company filters. Counts are free. It has no lookalike engine, so you describe your market with filters such as industry, employee range and technology.
The price does not move with volume. Pro is $499 a month with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups, 5 API keys and 100 requests per second per key. There are no credits and no overage invoice. A very large month is paced down to one request a minute until the reset, not cut off.
Contact data comes back in the same response, with no webhook to host. POST /v1/people/enrich returns the profile, the email status and, with reveal_email, the emails and phones we hold for one record. A miss is a free 404. Technology filters cover 105 categories across about 7.8M crawled sites, and our tech-stack data alternatives page covers that side.
curl "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?jobLevel=VP&country=US&limit=1&count=true" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY"The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 12 tools, from search_leads to find_phone and export_leads. Claude, Cursor or your own agent can pull records directly. count_leads is free, so you can size an audience before you pull it.
Pros
- Flat $499 a month at any volume, with no credit meter.
- REST and MCP on every plan, including Free.
- Emails and phones in one response, with an email status on every record.
- Free counts, and a miss on
POST /v1/people/enrichcosts nothing.
Cons
- No lookalike search. You need to know the filters that describe your best customers.
- No intent or event signals.
- No rep workspace. The app has an Exports page with a filter builder, and the rest is API or MCP.
Best for: engineers, RevOps and agents that need volume and a fixed bill.
Pricing: Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat (LeadOcean pricing, September 2026).
2. CompanyEnrich: best for lookalike companies by API at a public price
CompanyEnrich is the closest API-first match for Ocean.io's lookalike step. Its Similar Companies API takes one or more seed domains and returns AI-ranked lookalike accounts (CompanyEnrich docs, September 2026). The homepage lists 33M verified companies and 193M professional profiles (CompanyEnrich, September 2026).
Plan prices and per-call credit costs are public. Extra credits, annual plans and enterprise limits are quoted on request. A lookalike costs 5 credits per company returned, and a count of matches is free. Company search is 1 credit per company and people search is 2 per profile. Starter is $49 a month for 5,000 credits, Pro is $149 for 50,000 and Scale is $549 for 500,000, or $0.0011 a credit (CompanyEnrich pricing, September 2026).
Contact data is thinner than a people database. Work-email lookup is in beta at 10 credits per email found, and a mobile costs 30 credits (CompanyEnrich docs, September 2026). That is 50,000 found emails on Scale, so 1M emails would need up to 10,000,000 credits, bought at a price that is not published. Rate limits are 60, 120 and 600 requests a minute on Starter, Pro and Scale (CompanyEnrich pricing, September 2026). The MCP server takes a Bearer API key (CompanyEnrich docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Lookalike search with seed domains, free counts and a public credit price.
- Company enrichment at 1 credit. Batch enrich takes up to 50 domains per request and is listed on Scale, and the async bulk job takes up to 10,000 domains (CompanyEnrich docs, September 2026).
- Credits roll over on Pro and Scale.
Cons
- Email lookup is in beta at 10 credits each, and phones are 30.
- A smaller dataset: 33M companies.
- Preview endpoints need the Scale plan.
Best for: teams that want Ocean.io's lookalike step as an API call with a price they can read.
Pricing: Starter $49, Pro $149, Scale $549 a month. A free trial has 500 credits (CompanyEnrich pricing, September 2026).
3. Explorium: best for lookalikes plus company events
Explorium sells business and prospect data through AgentSource, an API and MCP server on prepaid credits. It claims 767M+ professional profiles and 146M+ business entities (Explorium, September 2026). It also has a lookalike enrichment, and that enrichment is powered by Ocean.io.
The catch is depth. The enrichment takes one business ID and returns up to 3 lookalike companies with a similarity score (Explorium docs, September 2026). That is a nudge, not a 500-account segment. The MCP server has 11 tools, and we found no lookalike tool in its list (Explorium MCP docs, September 2026).
Credits are the meter. Lite is $29.99 for 500 credits and Scale is $7,499.99 for 500,000, or $0.015 each. Packages are valid for 12 months and are non-refundable (Explorium pricing, September 2026). The default API limit is 200 queries a minute (Explorium docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Events and signals on companies and people, such as funding and hiring.
- MCP server with statistics tools that are free, so you can size an audience first.
- A large stated profile count.
Cons
- Lookalikes return 3 companies per input, and Ocean.io's engine is behind them.
- Credits expire after 12 months and cannot be refunded.
- 200 queries a minute by default, with each bulk row counted.
Best for: teams that want company events and intent in one vendor, with lookalikes as a side feature.
Pricing: Lite $29.99, Starter $149.99, Growth $749.99, Scale $7,499.99, then Enterprise (Explorium pricing, September 2026).
4. ZoomInfo (GTM.AI): best for free find-similar and enterprise data
ZoomInfo now sells its data headless through GTM.AI, with API, MCP and CLI access on every tier. Search, lookup and find similar are free. You pay only when you enrich or export a record (GTM.AI pricing, September 2026). ZoomInfo reports 500M contacts and 100M companies (VentureBeat, June 2026).
The lookalike endpoint is GET /gtm/copilot/v1/companies/lookalikes. It takes a company ID or name and returns up to 100 ranked companies. You can require the same revenue range, country, industry or employee range (GTM.AI docs, September 2026). That is one reference company per call, not a seed list.
One data credit covers one company, contact or intent record. The list price falls with purchase size, from $0.38 each at the $1,000 tier to $0.25 at 100,000 credits for $25,000, where the slider stops. The free tier allows 5 requests a second and 5 apps (GTM.AI pricing, September 2026). There is no public 1M price, and Enterprise volume pricing is a sales conversation.
Pros
- Find similar is free, so you can explore without spending credits.
- API, MCP and CLI on the free tier, with no card and no contract.
- Intent and org chart data sit behind the same key.
Cons
- No public price at 1M. The slider stops at 100,000 credits for $25,000, so 1M enriched records means an Enterprise quote.
- Lookalikes start from one reference company, not a list of seeds.
- 5 requests a second on the free tier, with custom limits on Enterprise.
Best for: teams that want free lookalike exploration and will buy enterprise data for the accounts that matter.
Pricing: 1,000 data credits and 1,000 AI credits free. Top-ups from $20, data credits from $0.45 down to $0.25 at 100,000 credits (GTM.AI pricing, September 2026).
5. Lusha: best for lookalikes, signals and a Chrome extension

Lusha is a contact and company platform with a Chrome extension, a REST API and an MCP server. Its homepage lists 525M+ contacts and 29M+ companies (Lusha, September 2026). It has lookalikes for both contacts and companies, in the app, the API and the MCP server.
The API endpoints are POST /v3/companies/lookalike and POST /v3/contacts/lookalike. Both need 5 to 100 seeds across all identifier types (Lusha changelog, September 2026). The MCP server has 50 tools, including lookalike_companies and lookalike_contacts (Lusha MCP docs, September 2026). Lookalikes come with Starter. Every user gets an API key on every plan including Free (Lusha API guide, September 2026). The pricing page names API as a feature from Pro and API Advanced on Premium (Lusha pricing, September 2026).
The API is the tight part. An email costs 1 credit, a phone 5, and a request costs at least 1 credit even with no data. Rate limits are 40 requests a minute on Free and Starter, 50 on Pro and 300 on Premium and Scale (Lusha API guide, September 2026). Daily caps run from 100 to 50,000.
Pros
- Lookalikes for people and companies, with seeds you control.
- Buying signals and buying-group search in the same MCP server.
- A Chrome extension and native CRM apps for reps.
Cons
- Credits cost about $0.0795 each at the lowest published rate, and there is no public price at 1M emails.
- Low API limits and daily caps below Premium.
- Lookalikes need 5 or more seeds.
Best for: sales teams that want lookalikes, signals and a browser extension, with an API on the side.
Pricing: Free 40 credits a month. Starter $49.90 a month ($37.45 a month billed yearly), Pro $69.90 ($52.45) and Premium $399.90 ($299.95). Prices are in USD. Scale is custom (Lusha pricing, September 2026).
6. Apollo: best for reps who want a database and a sequencer

Apollo is a sales platform with a contact database attached. It lists 240M+ contacts and 30M+ companies, sequences, a dialer and a Chrome extension (Apollo MCP page, September 2026). It ranks last here because pricing is built around seats, not volume.
Its pricing page lists People and Company Lookalikes with a BETA tag, but the page text does not say which plans include it (Apollo pricing, October 2026). We found no mention of lookalikes on its MCP page or in its docs index, so API and MCP access to it is not published. Test that before you plan a pipeline around it.
Apollo's API is on every plan, including Free. Basic is $49 per seat a month with 30,000 credits a year. Professional is $79 with 48,000 and Organization is $119 with 72,000, all billed annually. An email costs 1 credit and a phone 8. Enrichment endpoints allow 1,000 requests a minute on paid plans, and search allows 200 a minute (Apollo docs, September 2026). The MCP server works on any plan, including Free. Apollo also says its plans are for internal business use only.
Pros
- Database, sequences, dialer and CRM sync in one tool.
- MCP server on every plan, with OAuth sign-in.
- A free plan to test with.
Cons
- Seats and credits both scale your bill, and credits expire each cycle.
- Lookalikes are in beta.
- Record selection caps of 25, 1,000, 2,500 and 10,000 by plan.
- Internal use only, so you cannot build a product on it.
Best for: sales reps who prospect and send from one workspace.
Pricing: Free. Basic $49, Professional $79, Organization $119 per seat a month, billed annually (Apollo pricing, September 2026).
Comparison table
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month | API | MCP | Rate limit |

Sources are linked in each tool section, all checked in September 2026. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on the pricing page before you buy. The 1M column is list-price arithmetic on work-email lookups, except where no public plan sells that volume. CompanyEnrich and Lusha show their top public tier instead. Explorium is 2 credits at the Scale rate. Apollo is 400 Basic seats at $49 on yearly billing, or 250 Professional seats at $99 on monthly billing. ZoomInfo has no public price at 1M, since its slider stops at 100,000 credits for $25,000. At 10 credits per email and the Scale rate of $0.0011, CompanyEnrich would extrapolate to $10,980. That is not a list price, because credits beyond the plan are sold at an unpublished price.
How to choose
- You pull data in code or with an agent, at volume: LeadOcean. One flat price, REST and MCP on every plan, 100 requests per second.
- You want lookalike companies by API at a price you can read: CompanyEnrich, then enrich the domains elsewhere.
- You want company events with a few lookalikes: Explorium, knowing the lookalike engine is Ocean.io's.
- You want to explore similar accounts for free: ZoomInfo GTM.AI, one reference company per call.
- Your reps want lookalikes and signals in a browser: Lusha.
- Your reps live in one workspace: Apollo.
- Lookalike search is the whole job: keep Ocean.io for that step and move the reveals. See LeadOcean vs Ocean.io.
Verdict
LeadOcean wins for API, agent and volume buyers. It has a flat price, emails and phones in one response and an MCP server that returns records. CompanyEnrich wins if you need lookalike companies by API at a public price. Explorium wins for company events, and ZoomInfo for free similar-company exploration. Lusha wins for lookalikes with signals and a Chrome extension, and Apollo for reps who want a sequencer. Stay on Ocean.io if lookalike search is the core of your workflow. Otherwise start on the free plan and compare the same lookups.
FAQ
Why do teams leave Ocean.io?
Cost shape and limits. Ocean.io meters search, email and phone in one credit pool, and self-serve keys get 60 requests a minute and 1,000 a day (Ocean.io docs, September 2026). Emails arrive by webhook, and the MCP server puts the token in the URL.
Which Ocean.io alternative has lookalike search?
CompanyEnrich, Explorium, ZoomInfo and Lusha all do. Apollo lists lookalikes in beta. LeadOcean does not, so it replaces Ocean.io's people and contact data, not the similarity engine. Explorium's lookalikes are powered by Ocean.io.
What is the cheapest Ocean.io alternative at volume?
At 1M work emails a month, LeadOcean at $499 flat is cheapest on list price. Apollo seats come next at about $19,600 a month on yearly billing or $24,750 on monthly. CompanyEnrich, Lusha and ZoomInfo publish no price at 1M, and their top public plans are far smaller. Other credit models cost more at list, and Enterprise quotes narrow the gap.
Which Ocean.io alternative has an MCP server that returns data?
All six do. LeadOcean signs in with OAuth 2.1 and has 12 tools. CompanyEnrich uses a Bearer key, Explorium an API key, and Lusha has 50 tools. Compare the tools each one exposes before you choose.
Can I keep Ocean.io for lookalikes and use another source for contacts?
Yes. Run Ocean.io's lookalike search for the domains, then send the domains to a flat-price source for people and emails. The steps are in LeadOcean vs Ocean.io.
Do I need a credit card to try LeadOcean?
No. The free plan needs a work email and no card. It gives you 1,000 records, one-off, with the same API and MCP server as Pro. See pricing.
