ZoomInfo vs UpLead (2026): Data, Pricing and API Compared

ZoomInfo is the bigger suite with a free-to-start API. UpLead is a cheaper per-rep tool that keeps its API on the custom plan. Here is how they compare at 10,000 and 1M records.

ZoomInfo is the pick if you want a documented API you can open today and a suite beyond the data. UpLead is the pick if one rep needs verified contacts for a few hundred dollars a month. At 1M records, neither tool has a public price.

Verdict

  • Pick ZoomInfo if you need an API or MCP server on a free account. You also get free search, plus signals and direct dials in one suite (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026).
  • Pick UpLead if a rep works in its app and wants a published $99 or $199 monthly plan. It adds a real-time email check and a 95% accuracy guarantee (UpLead pricing, September 2026; UpLead data page, September 2026).
  • Pick neither if you pull people and company data in code or through an agent at volume and want one flat bill. LeadOcean is one option, covered below.

Data and coverage

ZoomInfo claims the larger database, but its own pages disagree. The Sales page says 420M+ contacts and 145M+ companies. The MCP docs say 500M+ contacts and 100M+ companies (ZoomInfo Sales, September 2026; ZoomInfo MCP docs, September 2026).

UpLead claims 200M+ contacts with email addresses and 19M+ company profiles. It also tracks 27K+ technologies (UpLead data page, September 2026). That is a smaller database, and UpLead's pitch is that it is cleaner.

These are vendor counts, and neither publishes a method. A bigger number can mean more stale rows as easily as more people. Run the same 100 lookups in both before you trust a count.

On email, UpLead verifies when you open a lead and gives a 95% accuracy guarantee. It says a Valid email is 97%+ verified at download (UpLead data page, September 2026). ZoomInfo claims 174M-plus verified emails and gives no accuracy rate on its Sales page.

On phones, ZoomInfo claims 120M+ direct dials (ZoomInfo Sales, September 2026). UpLead includes a mobile direct dial in the same credit and publishes no count. Neither gives an accuracy rate for phones.

On filtering, ZoomInfo says you can filter on 300+ attributes. UpLead's full filter set and buyer intent data sit on the custom Professional plan (UpLead pricing, September 2026).

API and developer experience

ZoomInfo's API is open to anyone with a free account, and UpLead's is not. ZoomInfo needs an app, a client ID and secret, and a bearer token. UpLead takes one key in a header, but the key only works on endpoints your plan includes. Placeholders below stand in for real people.

ZoomInfo: get a token, then enrich a contact.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/oauth/v1/token" \
  -u "$ZI_CLIENT_ID:$ZI_CLIENT_SECRET" \
  -d "grant_type=client_credentials"

curl -X POST "https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/data/v1/contacts/enrich" \
  -H "authorization: Bearer $ZI_TOKEN" \
  -H "content-type: application/vnd.api+json" \
  -d '{"data":{"type":"ContactEnrich","attributes":{"matchPersonInput":[{"personId":123456789}],"outputFields":["id","firstName","jobTitle","email"],"requiredFields":["email"]}}}'

ZoomInfo recommends two steps. Search is free and returns IDs. Enrich takes up to 25 records, and each record found costs one credit unless it is already under management. A "No match" is not charged (ZoomInfo docs, September 2026).

UpLead: look a person up by email.

bash
curl "https://api.uplead.com/v2/person-search?email=jane@acme.com" \
  -H "Authorization: $UPLEAD_API_KEY"

This is a GET that returns the person, the email_status and your remaining credits. One credit is deducted per record, and for a contact with an email only when the status is Valid or Accept All (UpLead API docs, September 2026).

The plan gate matters most. The pricing page ticks the Enrichment API, Prospector Pro API and Full API Access only on Professional. The docs say the Prospector Pro, Quick Search, Industries and Lists APIs are for Professional, Elite and Enterprise only (UpLead pricing, September 2026; UpLead API docs, September 2026). A buyer on Plus at $199 a month should confirm API access with UpLead before building on it.

Throughput differs too. At 1M records, ZoomInfo needs 1,000,000 / 25 = 40,000 enrich calls, about 27 minutes at the Standard rate of 25 a second. On Builder at 5 a second it is about 2 hours 13 minutes, before the 10,800-an-hour cap slows it further (ZoomInfo rate limits, September 2026).

UpLead's Person API returns one person per call. At 500 requests a minute, 1,000,000 calls take 2,000 minutes, about 33 hours. Search endpoints return pages of contacts, which cuts the calls, but they sit on Professional.

Pricing

ZoomInfo publishes credit prices for self-serve buyers, and UpLead publishes plan prices for its two lower tiers. Neither publishes a price for a very large month. The examples below use the lowest published list price at the volume shown.

ZoomInfo's self-serve route is GTM AI data credits. List price is $0.45 for 100 credits, $0.41 at 1,000 and $0.38 at 2,500 to 10,000. Then $0.32 at 15,000 to 20,000, $0.29 at 30,000 to 50,000 and $0.25 at 100,000 credits ($25,000). The slider stops there, and larger volumes go to Enterprise (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026). Platform plan prices are not published, and zoominfo.com/pricing blocks automated reading.

UpLead has two public plans. Essentials is $99 a month for 170 credits ($74 billed yearly). Plus is $199 for 400 credits ($149 billed yearly). Extra credits cost $0.60 on Essentials and $0.50 on Plus. Each plan has one user (UpLead pricing, September 2026).

At 10,000 records a month

  • ZoomInfo: 10,000 data credits x $0.38 = $3,800 at list. A record is charged once per 12 months, so repeat lookups of the same contact cost nothing extra (ZoomInfo docs, September 2026).
  • UpLead: Plus at $199 includes 400 credits. The other 9,600 at $0.50 = $4,800. Total $199 + $4,800 = $4,999 at monthly list price. The pricing page lists the $0.50 rate only in the monthly comparison, so a yearly-billed figure is not published.

At list price, ZoomInfo's credits are about $1,200 cheaper at this size. Through the API, UpLead's Plus plan may not include access at all, as covered above.

At 1M records a month

  • ZoomInfo: no public 1M price. The slider tops out at 100,000 credits for $25,000. Do not multiply $0.38 by 1,000,000, because $0.38 is the $1,000 tier only (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026).
  • UpLead: no public 1M price. Extra-credit purchases are capped at $2,000 a day. That is 4,000 credits a day at $0.50, or 124,000 in a 31-day month. The most Plus can reach is about 124,400 credits for $62,199 (UpLead help center, September 2026). Professional is a custom quote.

So 1M records through public self-serve is not possible on UpLead, and it is not published on ZoomInfo. Both mean a sales call. Ask each for a written quote at your volume, including what the API costs.

Where ZoomInfo wins

  • An API and MCP server open to a free account, with 1,000 data credits and 1,000 AI credits to test (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026).
  • Free search and lookup, so you pay only to enrich a record you chose.
  • A larger claimed database, 420M+ to 500M+ contacts against UpLead's 200M+.
  • Higher rate limits on paid packages: 25 and 35 requests a second.
  • Direct dials, buyer intent and 300+ filter attributes in one suite.
  • Credit prices that fall to $0.25 at 100,000, with no contract on GTM AI credits.

Where UpLead wins

  • A price a single rep can pay: $99 or $199 a month, and no contract on the monthly plans (UpLead pricing, September 2026).
  • A written 95% accuracy guarantee and a real-time email check at download (UpLead data page, September 2026).
  • A Chrome extension on every plan, plus CRM integrations from Essentials (UpLead pricing, September 2026).
  • A mobile direct dial in the same credit as the email, so one credit covers both.
  • A simpler app for one user who never touches code.

If you need volume through an API

LeadOcean is a data API and MCP server with no credits and no seats. It is not a sales suite, and it has no intent data. Pro costs $499 a month flat, with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups. The Free plan gives 1,000 records one-off with no card, and both plans get the same REST API and 12-tool MCP server. POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). Compare it on a list you already know, then read ZoomInfo alternatives and pricing.

ZoomInfo, by its own claims. It lists 420M+ to 500M+ contacts, against UpLead's 200M+ contacts with email addresses. Both are vendor figures with no published method, so test the same 100 lookups in each (ZoomInfo Sales; UpLead data page, September 2026).

Do ZoomInfo and UpLead have an API and an MCP server?
