Total addressable market (TAM) is the total revenue available if every buyer who could use your product bought it from you.

TAM is a ceiling, not a forecast. It counts every company that fits your product, whether or not you can reach it today.

Why it matters for outbound

Outbound needs a list, and the list comes from your TAM. If you cannot say how many accounts and contacts sit inside it, you cannot size a team, set a quota or know when you run out of people to email.

TAM also tells you where to stop. A segment with 400 accounts will not feed five reps for a year. A segment with 400,000 will. Size the market before you hire to it.

For the revenue-side method, read TAM analysis.

Example

Acme sells payroll software to US companies with 51 to 500 employees. The numbers below are placeholders.

StepValue
Companies that fit20,000
Average yearly contract$12,000
TAM20,000 x $12,000 = $240M

That $240M is revenue. The outbound view of the same market is a count of accounts and the buyers inside them. Acme still has to find the right contact at each of the 20,000 companies, and some of those contacts will have no usable email.

In LeadOcean data

LeadOcean has no TAM field. It does not hold your price or your contract size. It gives you the count side: how many companies and people match your fit criteria.

Two free sizing calls cover it. The count_leads tool in the MCP server counts people for a set of filters and spends no records. GET /v1/companies/search and GET /v1/people/search accept count=true as a query parameter with limit=1. meta.total is capped at 100,000, so a wider market reads as a floor.

A worked count, run with count_leads on 2 October 2026 with hqCountry US, employeeRange 51-200 and 201-500, and jobLevel C-Team: 1,237,909 mailable C-Team people (verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all). That is people at companies with a US headquarters, not a count of companies, and it is wider than a real list because other filters narrow it at search time.

Multiply the company count by your average contract for the revenue figure. Use the people count to see how deep your outbound list can go. The dataset is 693M people and 63M companies (September 2026). The free plan gives 1,000 records, one-off, and Pro is $499 a month. See /pricing.
