RocketReach is a contact-finder with an API, a Chrome extension and outreach tools, billed on plans and credits. LeadOcean is one data layer you call over REST or MCP at one flat price. If you pull people and emails in code or through an agent, LeadOcean is the simpler and more predictable source. If your reps live in the RocketReach extension, keep it.
Why teams switch from RocketReach
Credits by action, and no dollar price for them
RocketReach's API bills Universal Credits: 1 per page of people search, 2 per professional email, 3 per personal email and 6 per phone (RocketReach docs, September 2026). The docs publish no price per credit. They say to email the API team to set up a plan (RocketReach docs, September 2026).
Monthly lookup ceilings
Person lookups cap at 50,000 a month on Ultimate and 200,000 a month on the Custom tier, with a global limit of 10 requests per second across all APIs (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026). A 1M-record job is a five-month job at the highest published tier. LeadOcean allows 100 requests per second per key on every plan.
Self-serve plans are sized for one person
Essentials, Pro and Ultimate cap exports at 1,200, 3,600 and 20,000 a year (RocketReach pricing, September 2026). RocketReach's FAQ says one export equals one API credit (RocketReach FAQ, September 2026). Team plans start at $6K a year, unverified.
Lookups are asynchronous and searches stop at 10,000
A person lookup can return a status of progress, so you poll or register a webhook. Bulk lookup needs a webhook and takes up to 100 people per batch (RocketReach docs, September 2026). Search returns at most 10,000 results per query (RocketReach FAQ, September 2026).

What 1M, 5M and 25M records cost
RocketReach's API sells credits and publishes no dollar price for them, so there is no list price to multiply. We will not invent one. The table counts credits, and LeadOcean Pro stays at $499 a month.
| Records a month | RocketReach, people search only | RocketReach, lookup with professional email | LeadOcean |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1M | 10,000 credits | 2,000,000 credits | $499 a month. |
| 5M | 50,000 credits | 10,000,000 credits | $499 a month. |
| 25M | 250,000 credits | 50,000,000 credits | $499 a month. Past fair use, one email raises the headroom. |
Arithmetic at RocketReach's published credit costs (RocketReach docs, September 2026): search is 1 credit per page of 100 results, so 1M results is 10,000 pages. A lookup with a verified professional email is 2 credits. A phone adds 6 on profiles that have one.
Credits are only half the limit. The highest published person-lookup tier caps at 200,000 a month (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026). On Ultimate's 20,000 exports a year, 1M records is 50 years of allowance (annual allowance reported by G2).
RocketReach publishes no dollar price per Universal Credit and no API plan price. Its docs set credit costs only, and its docs say to email api@rocketreach.co for an API plan (RocketReach credits overview; RocketReach rate limits). Multiply your quoted price by these credit counts to get your real RocketReach number.
Where LeadOcean wins
A flat bill and no monthly ceiling
Pro is $499 a month. Every person or company returned counts as a record, but there is no credit balance to watch and no overage invoice. A very large month is paced down to one request a minute until the reset, not cut off, and one email to support gets you more headroom.
Fast, plain requests
The limit is 100 requests per second per key on every plan, including Free. One POST /v1/people/enrich call returns a profile, email status and, with reveal_email, every email and phone number we hold, for one record.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"linkedin_url":"https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe","reveal_email":true}'Search and export at database scale
Search people with 50 filters and companies with 34, across 254 countries and 534 industries. Counts are free. Export up to 50,000 rows per request with POST /v1/exports, so a 1M-row pull is 20 calls over two days, not 10,000 bulk batches.
Built for agents, with search in the tool list
The MCP server signs in with OAuth 2.1 at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp, and no key gets pasted into a chat. It has 12 tools, including count_leads, search_leads and export_leads. count_leads is free, so an agent sizes an audience before it spends a record.
Where RocketReach wins
One seat, one person, low price
For a single rep, $69 to $209 a month on monthly billing is far below $499 (reported by G2, September 2026). Annual prices are unverified. The Chrome extension comes on every plan. If one person prospects by hand and needs no API volume, RocketReach is the cheaper buy.
Outreach and CRM sync in the app
RocketReach ships sequences, an AI email writer and Autopilot, plus HubSpot, Salesforce, Outreach, Salesloft and Bullhorn sync from Pro (RocketReach pricing, September 2026). LeadOcean has none of that. It is a data layer, so a sales team that wants one app should stay.
A bigger people count, email verification and niche data
RocketReach claims 700M+ professionals. LeadOcean holds 693M, so RocketReach is ahead on people by a small margin. LeadOcean is ahead on companies, 63M against 60M+. RocketReach also sells a standalone email verify endpoint, healthcare data with NPI numbers and intent topics on Ultimate (RocketReach MCP docs, September 2026).
Use both: LeadOcean for volume, RocketReach for reps
You do not have to drop RocketReach to cut its credit bill. Pull the list from LeadOcean, then use RocketReach seats for the people reps work by hand. The bulk data comes from a source with no credit meter, and reps keep the extension and sequences.
- Create a free LeadOcean key at app.leadocean.io/register. The free plan needs no card.
- Export the audience with
POST /v1/exports, filtered toverifiedandcatch_all_validemail status, and load the CSV into your CRM or sequencer. - In an agent, add both MCP servers:
https://api.leadocean.io/mcpandhttps://mcp.rocketreach.co/mcp. Let the agent search and enrich in LeadOcean, and call RocketReach'sperson_lookuponly for people LeadOcean misses.
FAQ
Is LeadOcean a full RocketReach replacement?
No. It replaces RocketReach as a data source, not as a prospecting app. If you need the Chrome extension, sequences or CRM sync, keep RocketReach. If you need people, companies and emails in code or an agent, LeadOcean is enough.
Does RocketReach have an API and an MCP server?
Yes to both. The API covers people and company search, person and bulk lookup and email verify. The MCP server uses OAuth 2.1 and exposes 9 tools (RocketReach MCP docs, September 2026).
How much does the RocketReach API cost?
RocketReach publishes credit costs but no price per credit. A professional email is 2 credits and a phone is 6 (RocketReach docs, September 2026). Email api@rocketreach.co for an API plan quote.
What are RocketReach's API rate limits?
There is a global limit of 10 requests per second. On top of that, each plan has minute, hourly, daily and monthly caps. Ultimate allows 100 person lookups a minute and 50,000 a month (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026).
What does LeadOcean cost, and is there a limit?
Free gives you 1,000 records, one-off, with no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat, with no credits and no per-record price. Past the fair-usage line a very large month is paced down instead of cut off.
Do I need a credit card to try it?
No. The free plan needs a work email and no card, and it has the same API and MCP server as Pro. RocketReach's free account gives 5 lookups (RocketReach pricing, September 2026). LeadOcean gives 1,000 records.
