An AI powered lead generation platform finds the right people and companies, returns a verified email or phone number, and exposes that data to an AI agent or an AI feature. Sales teams, RevOps and growth engineers need one. So does anyone building an agent that prospects on its own.
Most teams leave a platform for the same two reasons: seat pricing and credit meters. Apollo charges per seat and its credits expire each cycle (Apollo pricing, September 2026). Clay bills Actions and Data Credits that you size in advance (Clay pricing, September 2026). Cognism and Seamless.AI print no dollar price at all.
We read the pricing pages and API docs of seven platforms in September 2026. We priced 1M records a month on each, and we ran one free list-size test. See our alternatives pages for Apollo, Clay, ZoomInfo, Cognism, Crustdata and Seamless.AI.
TL;DR
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| LeadOcean | Agents, APIs and volume pulls | Free; Solo $97 a month | $497 a month (Agency) |
| Apollo | Reps who want data and sequences in one app | Free; Basic $65 per seat a month ($49 billed yearly) | $24,750 a month at list price ($19,600 billed yearly) |
| Clay | RevOps teams building AI enrichment tables | Free; Launch $185 a month ($167 billed yearly) | No public 1M price |
| ZoomInfo GTM AI | Pay-as-you-go company and contact credits | Free; credits from $20 | No public 1M price |
| Cognism | EMEA teams that want phone-verified mobiles | No public price | No public 1M price |
| Crustdata | Builders who need fresh profiles and signals | No public price | No public 1M price |
| Seamless.AI | Reps who want search, dialer and data in one place | Free license; paid prices not published | No public 1M price |
What we evaluated
- Price at volume. The monthly list price for 1M records. We never multiply a small-tier rate out to 1M.
- Agent access. Whether a hosted MCP server exists, how many tools it has, and which plans include it.
- API and rate limit. Whether the API is on every plan and how many requests a key may send.
- AI features. What the platform does with AI itself, such as research columns or intent ranking, as opposed to just exposing data.
- Rep workspace. Whether reps get sequences, a dialer or a browser extension, or only data.
Our test: size a list before you pay
An AI platform is only as useful as the list behind it, so we ran one test. On 2026-10-21 we called leadocean_count_leads for VP-level people in Sales & Business Development, in the US, at companies with 51 to 200 employees.
The count returned 18,567 people with a verified, catch-all-valid or catch-all email. The same filters without any email condition matched 60,456 people. The 18,567 people work at 12,192 distinct companies. The call cost 0 records.
That is one query on one platform, not an accuracy benchmark. We did not run the same query on the other platforms. ZoomInfo GTM AI makes search free but charges a credit to enrich (GTM AI docs, September 2026). Cognism's docs disagree on whether a count costs a search token (Cognism docs, September 2026).
For scale, pulling those 18,567 records through Apollo at 1 credit per email needs 18,567 credits. At 4,000 credits per Professional seat that is 5 seats, or $495 a month at list price. On LeadOcean it fits inside Solo at $97 a month and well inside Agency at $497.
1. LeadOcean: best for agents, APIs and volume
LeadOcean is the data layer only: 693M people and 67M companies behind one REST API and a hosted MCP server. It has no sequencer, dialer, CRM or Chrome extension. Pick it when code or an agent pulls the data.
Every plan has the same data and every feature. The price buys speed and pace, not access. People search has 50 filters and company search has 34. Each record carries an email status with 13 values, and 366M people have an email and 166M a phone number. The dataset refreshes monthly.
The MCP server at api.leadocean.io/mcp has 13 tools and OAuth 2.1 sign-in (LeadOcean MCP docs, October 2026). leadocean_count_leads and leadocean_count_companies size a list for free. Enrichment is POST /v1/people/enrich, phones are GET /v2/people/phone, and one search pages to 10,000 rows. Since October 2026 person enrich also returns career history.
Pros
- Flat $497 a month at 1M records, with no per-record price.
- Free exact counts before you spend anything.
- 13 MCP tools on every plan, with OAuth sign-in.
- Bulk CSV export from Solo, plus an Exports page in the app.
Cons
- No rep workspace, sequencer, dialer, CRM or Chrome extension.
- A sales team with no engineer will want a UI.
- No built-in AI research column. You bring your own model through MCP.
- Bulk CSV export is not on Free.
Best for: Developers, agents and data teams that pull records at volume. Pricing: Free $0 for 1,000 records, no card; Solo $97 a month; Agency $497 a month; Platform $1,997 a month to embed and resell (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026). 1M records a month fits Agency at $497. See the pricing page.
2. Apollo: best for reps who want one app

Apollo is the default pick for a sales team that wants a contact database, sequences and a dialer in one seat. A rep can search, enrich and send from one screen.
The cost model is per seat plus a credit allowance. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 8 (Apollo API pricing, September 2026). Credits are pooled across the team and expire at the end of each cycle, add-ons included.
Apollo runs an official MCP server at mcp.apollo.io/mcp. Any plan can use it, Free included (Apollo MCP, September 2026). Enrichment endpoints allow 1,000 requests a minute on paid plans (Apollo rate limits, September 2026).
Pros
- Data, sequences and dialer in one app.
- API and MCP on every plan, Free included.
- Enrichment reaches 1,000 requests a minute on paid plans.
- A real free plan to test the workflow.
Cons
- Seat pricing makes an unattended pipeline expensive.
- Credits expire each cycle, including purchased add-ons.
- Apollo prints no price for extra credits.
- At 1M emails a month the list price needs about 250 Professional seats.
Best for: Sales teams that live in one tool all day. Pricing: Free; Basic $65 per seat a month, $49 billed yearly; Professional $99, $79 yearly; Organization $149, $119 yearly, minimum 3 seats (Apollo pricing, September 2026). 1M work emails is 1M credits: 250 Professional seats at $99 is $24,750 a month. Apollo does not say whether self-serve allows that many seats.
3. Clay: best for RevOps teams building AI enrichment tables

Clay is a spreadsheet that runs enrichment workflows over many data providers. It pulls from 150+ partners and charges Actions plus Data Credits. Its AI research column, Claygent, is on every plan, Free included (Clay pricing, September 2026).
Clay's own doc says a fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 Data Credits, plus one Action per enrichment (Clay docs, September 2026). An enrichment that returns nothing costs nothing.
The developer API is on every plan, with search volume capped by plan (Clay API docs, September 2026). Clay publishes no number for its Public API rate limit (Clay rate limits, September 2026).
Pros
- Waterfalls across many providers in one table.
- Claygent runs web research per row.
- A Free plan with 100 Data Credits a month.
- Conditional runs skip rows that are already filled.
Cons
- Credit cost per record varies by provider and is hard to forecast.
- The largest self-serve tier is 200,000 Actions and 50,000 Data Credits a month.
- The HTTP API column needs Growth.
- No published Public API rate limit.
Best for: RevOps and growth teams that want a table-first workflow. Pricing: Free; Launch $185 a month, $167 billed yearly; Growth $495 a month, $446 billed yearly (Clay pricing, September 2026). No public 1M price: no self-serve tier reaches 1M lookups a month.
4. ZoomInfo GTM AI: best for pay-as-you-go credits
ZoomInfo GTM AI is the API and MCP side of ZoomInfo, sold on credits with no contract and no seat fee. A new account gets 1,000 data credits and 1,000 AI credits free, with no card (GTM AI pricing, September 2026).
Search and lookup are free. One data credit enriches or exports one company, contact or intent record, and a record is charged once per 12 months. Credits do not expire while the account is active (GTM AI docs, September 2026).
ZoomInfo claims 100M+ companies and 500M+ contacts for its MCP server, which works with Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor. It needs a GTM AI account or a ZoomInfo subscription with data credits (GTM AI MCP docs, September 2026).
Pros
- No contract, no seats, credits that do not expire.
- Free search and lookup.
- Re-enriching a record inside 12 months costs nothing extra.
- API and MCP on the free tier.
Cons
- List price is $0.45 a credit at the base tier and $0.25 at 100,000 credits.
- The credit slider stops at 100,000. Larger volumes go to Enterprise.
- Free allows 5 requests a second and audiences of 5 x 500 rows.
- Batch enrichment takes at most 25 records per call.
Best for: Teams that want ZoomInfo data without a platform contract. Pricing: Credits from $20, at $0.45 each down to $0.25 at 100,000 credits ($25,000) (GTM AI pricing, September 2026). No public 1M price: the slider stops at 100,000.
5. Cognism: best for phone-verified data in EMEA

Cognism is a sales intelligence platform with a rep workspace, an API and an MCP server. The Pro plan adds buying-intent prioritisation built on Bombora Company Surge, with up to 12 topics (Cognism pricing, September 2026). It claims over 10M phone-verified contacts on its Diamond Data page.
Cognism publishes no dollar price. Pricing is tailored by product, team setup and usage. One credit is one revealed contact, and each seat carries a credit allocation.
The API allows 500 requests a minute per account, per operation (Cognism rate limits, September 2026). The MCP server at mcp.cognism.com/mcp has 15 tools and OAuth 2.0 sign-in (Cognism MCP docs, September 2026). API and MCP need a package that includes them.
Pros
- Phone-verified mobile data and Do Not Call checks in 15 territories.
- Intent prioritisation on Pro.
- Cursor pagination up to 100,000 records per journey.
- 15-tool MCP server that maps onto the API.
Cons
- No public price for any plan, seat or credit.
- Credit allocation per seat is not published.
- Cognism's own docs disagree on whether a count call costs a search token.
- API and MCP depend on the package you buy.
Best for: Outbound teams that sell into Europe and need verified mobiles. Pricing: No public price. Standard and Pro each list 5 seats, by quote (Cognism pricing, September 2026). No public 1M price.
6. Crustdata: best for fresh profiles and signals

Crustdata is a real-time people and company data API with a hosted MCP server. It also sells watchers that alert you when a person or company changes. It is built for engineers more than reps.
It sells credits, not dollars. Search costs 0.03 credits per result. A person enrich is 1 to 7 credits, and a work email through /person/enrich is 2 credits (Crustdata pricing, September 2026). The cheaper contact endpoint needs an enterprise plan.
Default rate limits are low: 15 requests a minute on person enrich and 30 on search (Crustdata rate limits, September 2026). The MCP server at install.crustdata.com/mcp uses OAuth, or an API key as a bearer token for code (Crustdata MCP docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Change watchers for people and companies.
- Hosted MCP server with OAuth or key auth.
- Misses on contact enrich are not billed.
- Batch person enrich takes up to 10,000 identifiers a job.
Cons
- No public dollar price per credit or plan.
- 15 requests a minute on person enrich is slow for volume.
- The cheaper contact endpoint is enterprise only.
- Its own sources disagree on credit expiry: 12 months in the docs, 6 months in a blog post.
Best for: Builders who need fresh profile and change data in an agent. Pricing: No public dollar price. Credits expire 12 months after purchase per the docs (Crustdata pricing, September 2026). No public 1M price: 1M work emails is 2,000,000 credits on /person/enrich, and the dollar value depends on your plan.
7. Seamless.AI: best for an all-in-one rep workspace

Seamless.AI is a sales platform with a Chrome extension, a dialer and a credit meter. It claims 2.2B+ verified contacts and 448M+ verified mobile numbers. Those are its own claims.
It publishes no dollar price. The pricing page is an inquiry form, and API keys are bundled with plan tiers or sold as an add-on (Seamless.AI pricing, September 2026). The Free license has 50 credits with no refill. Pro carries 10,000 credits a month per license (Seamless.AI license types, September 2026).
One credit covers one researched contact, email and phone together. Search costs 1 credit per 10 results. The default rate limit is 60 requests a minute per endpoint (Seamless.AI docs, September 2026). The hosted MCP server has 57 tools (Seamless.AI MCP docs, September 2026).
Pros
- One credit returns email and phone together.
- Up to 500 contacts per search page and per research call.
- Hosted MCP server with OAuth 2.1 or an API key.

- Annual subscriptions, sales are final, 60 days' notice to cancel.
- The docs do not say whether a missing result is charged.
- MCP access must be enabled on the account.
Best for: Reps who want search, calling and data in one workspace. Pricing: No public price. Free license with 50 credits; Basic 250 credits a month; Pro 10,000 credits a month per license (Seamless.AI license types, September 2026). No public 1M price: 1M researches is 1M credits and a quote.

FAQ
What is the best AI powered lead generation platform?
It depends on who does the prospecting. LeadOcean is the best for code, agents and volume. Apollo is the best single app for reps. Clay is the best for AI enrichment tables.
Which platform is cheapest at 1M records a month?
LeadOcean, among the platforms with a published price. Agency is $497 a month. Apollo's list price for 1M emails is $24,750 a month (Apollo pricing, September 2026). The other five print no price at that volume.
Do these platforms have an MCP server for AI agents?
Yes, all seven. Tool counts differ: LeadOcean has 13, Cognism 15 and Seamless.AI 57. Read the credit rules before you let an agent loop, because MCP calls spend the same credits as the API.
Is there a free AI lead generation platform?
Five have a free plan or license: LeadOcean, Apollo, Clay, ZoomInfo GTM AI and Seamless.AI. LeadOcean's free plan has 1,000 records for life, no card, and every feature. Cognism and Crustdata publish no free tier we could confirm.
How do I size a list before I pay?
Use a free count. In LeadOcean, leadocean_count_leads and leadocean_count_companies return a total at no record cost. ZoomInfo GTM AI makes search and lookup free too. See pricing for plan limits.
Can I use more than one platform?
Yes. One split keeps a rep tool such as Apollo for daily work and uses LeadOcean for bulk pulls and agents. See Apollo alternatives for how that works.
