6 Best Email Databases for North America (2026)

Six databases ranked on deliverability for the US and Canada, with live LeadOcean status counts, each vendor's own verification claim, and the list cost of 1M emails.

An email database for North America is a searchable set of business contacts in the US and Canada, with an email address and a deliverability status on each one. Sales teams, agencies and agent builders need one that can be sent to without burning a sending domain. The headline record count matters less than how many addresses are safe to mail.

This page ranks six databases on deliverability, meaning how each one verifies an address and what you can check before you pay. We ran free status counts on LeadOcean. We sent no test campaign to any vendor's list, so we quote no bounce rates. Each vendor has its own comparison: Apollo, Hunter, Prospeo, Lead411 and ZoomInfo. "1M records" means 1M work-email lookups that return a result, at list price.

What we evaluated

  • Verification method: does the vendor say how it checks an address, and does the record carry the result?
  • Status on the record: can you filter by status before you pull, or do you only see a pass or fail?
  • Free test: can you size a US or Canada list, and its status mix, before you spend a credit?
  • API and MCP: can code or an agent run the same pull and read the status back?
  • Price at volume: flat, credits, seats or quote, and the list cost of 1M emails.

Accuracy claims on vendor sites are the vendor's own. We have not tested any of them, and say so each time.

1. LeadOcean: best for status on every record, by API, agent or export

Every LeadOcean record carries an email_status. It has 13 values, from verified to spam_trap. You filter on it before you pull. That makes deliverability a query, not a promise.

Here is a real count. On 21 October 2026 a free count_leads call with country: US found 211,718,570 people. Of those, 57,057,717 had a mailable email (verified, catch_all_valid or catch_all), and 12,515,387 were verified alone. In Canada the same call found 18,473,829 people, 3,313,928 mailable and 1,069,154 verified.

Filter (counted 21 October 2026, free)People
country: US, no email filter211,718,570
country: US, mailable email57,057,717
country: US, emailStatus: verified12,515,387
country: CA, no email filter18,473,829
country: CA, mailable email3,313,928
country: CA, emailStatus: verified1,069,154

The gap between mailable and verified is your choice. catch_all addresses sit on domains that accept any mail, so they are a risk you decide on. Mail only verified for a cold start, and add the catch-all tiers as the domain warms up.

Over REST, the free sizing call is a search with count=true in the query string and limit 1 in the body.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?count=true" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"country": ["US"], "emailStatus": ["verified"], "limit": 1}'

meta.total stops at 100,000 on that route. Use leadocean_count_leads over MCP for the exact figure. The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp has 13 tools and signs in with OAuth 2.1. Pull the rows with POST /v1/exports, up to 50,000 rows a request.

Pros

  • Free exact counts by country, seniority and email status.
  • Status filter at search and export time, so you pay only for rows you chose.
  • Agency is $497 a month flat for 1M enrichments a day, with REST and MCP on every plan, Free included.
  • 366M people with an email on record, across 693M people.

Cons

  • No sequencer, dialer, CRM or Chrome extension. The app has an Exports page.
  • A verified status is a snapshot from the last refresh. The dataset refreshes monthly, and each record carries its fetched_at date.
  • No refund or credit-back for a bounce. Read email_status before you send.
  • Reaching the fair-use pace slows the key until the window resets.

Best for: engineers, RevOps and agents that pull US and Canadian emails at volume on a fixed bill and filter by status.

Pricing: Free is 1,000 records for life, no card. Solo is $97 a month, Agency $497 and Platform $1,997 (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026).

2. Hunter: best for verifying single addresses

Hunter is the tool to check an address you already hold. Its Email Verifier costs half a credit and returns one of six statuses: valid, invalid, accept_all, webmail, disposable or unknown (Hunter API docs, September 2026). Finding an email costs 1 credit, and a lookup that finds nothing costs none (Hunter credit help, September 2026).

Hunter's site counts 150,430,313 email addresses verified to date (Hunter Email Verifier, October 2026). That is a running tally of verifications, not a US and Canada database size. It is an email database, not a people database with titles and industries to filter on.

The official MCP server at https://mcp.hunter.io/mcp is included on every plan (Hunter MCP, September 2026).

Pros

  • Verification at half a credit per address, for lists you already own.
  • Repeat lookups in the same billing period are not charged twice.
  • Official MCP server on all plans.
  • The lowest per-credit 1M price among the credit-based tools here, on Data Platform.

Cons

  • Limits are per endpoint: 15 requests a second on Email Finder, 10 on the Verifier.
  • Monthly credits reset and do not carry over.
  • Little to filter by before you ask for an address.

Best for: teams that need to verify or find one address at a time and already know the person.

Pricing: Free has 50 credits a month. Starter is $49 a month ($34 billed yearly) for 2,000 credits, Growth $149 ($104) and Scale $299 ($209). On Data Platform, 1,000,000 Search credits cost $6,900, paid once and valid 12 months (Hunter pricing, September 2026; Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

3. Prospeo: best for only paying for verified emails

Prospeo charges for verified emails only. One credit buys one verified email, and a lookup with no result costs nothing (Prospeo credit help, September 2026). A mobile costs 10 credits, email included.

Its homepage claims 98% data accuracy (Prospeo, October 2026). That is the vendor's claim, and we have not tested it. The trade is that you see verified results only, not the catch-all and risky tiers a status filter would show.

The hosted MCP server at https://mcp.prospeo.io has 8 tools and signs in with OAuth 2.0 or an API key (Prospeo MCP docs, September 2026).

Pros

  • Credits go only to verified matches.
  • Re-enriching the same record within 90 days is free.
  • MCP server with 8 tools.
  • Enrich limit reaches 30 requests a second on Pro.

Cons

  • Credits expire at the end of each cycle and do not roll over.
  • No single tier reaches 1M credits. You mix seats and an add-on.
  • Whether Free has API access is disputed between the pricing table and the help center.

Best for: teams that want a vendor-side verified-only rule and accept seat pricing.

Pricing: Free has 100 credits a month. Starter is $49 a seat a month ($37 billed yearly), Growth $99 ($74) and Pro $249 ($187). The cheapest public route to 1M credits is 44 Pro seats plus the 350,000-credit add-on, $14,456 a month. Billed yearly it is $11,223 once for 1,040,000 credits (Prospeo pricing, September 2026).

4. Apollo: best for free search, charged only for verified emails

apollo homepage

Apollo charges 1 credit per verified email and only for emails it can verify (Apollo credits, September 2026). Search costs nothing, so you can size the US and Canada before you spend. A mobile adds 8 credits (Apollo API pricing, September 2026).

Apollo publishes no deliverability rate in the pages we read. Its edge is the workflow: sequences, mailboxes and deliverability tools sit on paid plans, so you find, verify and send in one product. The official MCP server at https://mcp.apollo.io/mcp is on every plan (Apollo MCP docs, September 2026).

Pros

  • Free search with country and location filters.
  • Charged only for emails Apollo can verify.
  • API access and official MCP server on every plan.
  • Sequences and mailboxes in the same product.

Cons

  • Credits are per seat and expire at the end of each cycle.
  • A mobile costs 8 credits against 1 for an email.
  • No published deliverability figure or per-record status mix.

Best for: small teams that want to search free and send from the same tool.

Pricing: Free has 75 credits a month. Basic is $65 a seat a month ($49 billed yearly), Professional $99 ($79) and Organization $149 ($119). At 1M email lookups the cheapest monthly route is 250 Professional seats, $24,750 a month. The yearly route is 400 Basic seats, $19,600 a month (Apollo pricing, September 2026).

5. Lead411: best for US and Canada teams that want a deliverability claim

Lead411 is the one vendor here that puts a deliverability figure on its site. It claims 96%+ deliverability and says catch-all addresses are mainly verified with BounceBan (Lead411, September 2026; Lead411 FAQ, September 2026). That is the vendor's claim, and we have not tested it.

Lead411 covers 13 countries, including the US and Canada. It sells exports, not credits. A 7-day trial gives 50 exports with no card. API access starts on Ignite, the MCP server is for approved accounts, and no rate limit is published (Lead411 API docs, September 2026).

Pros

  • A stated deliverability claim and a stated method for catch-alls.
  • Verified emails and advanced search from $49 a month.
  • Intent data licensed from Bombora.
  • A trial with no card.

Cons

  • API access is not on Spark. It starts on Ignite.
  • No published rate limit or database size.
  • Unlimited exports and the top plan are quote only.

Best for: sales teams that work the US and Canada in an app and want a vendor-side deliverability claim.

Pricing: Spark is $49 a month, or $490 billed yearly, for 1,000 exports a month. Ignite starts at $150 a month ($1,500 billed yearly) (Lead411 pricing, September 2026).

ZoomInfo's self-serve product is GTM AI. Search, lookup and find-similar cost nothing, and one data credit enriches or exports one contact (GTM AI credit docs, September 2026). A record is charged once per 12 months.

We found no published deliverability rate or status filter in the pages we read. The test is to search free, reveal 20 US contacts, and check the email field yourself. Free signup gives 1,000 data credits, with MCP, API and CLI included. The default rate is 5 requests a second on Builder, 25 on Standard and 35 on Scaling (GTM AI rate limits, September 2026).

Pros

  • Free search, so you size a US list with no credit spent.
  • Pay as you go from $20, with no contract or seat fee.
  • Official MCP server, plus API and CLI.
  • A record is charged once per 12 months.

Cons

  • The public slider stops at 100,000 credits for $25,000.
  • Rate limits start low, at 5 requests a second.
  • No deliverability figure on the pages we read.

Best for: teams that want free search and credits they buy in packs.

Pricing: Free has 1,000 data credits. Pay as you go runs from $0.45 a credit at 100 credits to $0.25 at 100,000 for $25,000 (GTM AI pricing, September 2026).
