Close enrichment fills the blank fields on your leads and contacts, such as email, phone, title, company size and industry. Close teams need it when imports arrive half empty or when reps want a direct dial.
Close has its own AI Enrichment, and it fills fields by searching the web. It bills 6 AI credits per field, not per record (Close docs, October 2026). Teams outgrow it for verified emails, phones and volume. Most then pick between a native app and an API.
We rank six tools by what they do inside a Close account. LeadOcean is one of them, so weigh our placement accordingly. If you already compared LeadOcean with a single rival, see LeadOcean vs Clay, FullEnrich, UpLead and Findymail. For the method behind multi-source lookups, read what is waterfall enrichment.

What we evaluated
- Field mapping. Which Close lead and contact fields the tool can fill, and whether you choose them or it chooses for you.
- Dedupe. Whether the tool updates a lead already in Close or creates a twin. Close can check imports against existing leads (Close docs, October 2026).
- Native app or API. Whether it runs inside Close, in code, or both.
- Cost per 10k records. Monthly list price for 10,000 work-email lookups, with no volume deals.
- Cost at 1M. Only where the vendor publishes a price. Otherwise we say so.
1. Close AI Enrichment: best for Close-only teams with no code
Close enriches fields on leads and contacts with AI that searches the web. It is on by default for every plan, with no extra vendor and no key (Close docs, October 2026). You run it from the sparkle icon on a field, or in bulk from a Smart View.
Field mapping is the strong point. You pick the custom field, write a guidance prompt, test it on a sample lead, then run it. Bulk runs fill only empty fields unless you tick Override existing values. Each result carries a confidence color and the AI's reasoning. That suits fuzzy fields such as industry or go-to-market motion.
It is not a contact database. The docs list company size, industry, timezone and profile URLs as targets, not a verified email or a mobile. Dedupe is not a problem, because it enriches the record that already exists.
Pros
- No vendor, no key, no code.
- Custom guidance per field, with a test run before you commit.
- Fills empty fields only by default.
- Shows reasoning and a confidence color for each value.
Cons
- Billed per field: 6 AI credits each.
- Web search, not a contact database. No documented email verification.
- Credits are pooled, reset monthly and do not roll over.
Best for: Close teams that want firmographic fields filled with no engineer.
Pricing: Every plan includes AI credits: 500 on Solo, then 1,000, 1,500 and 2,000 per user, capped at 10 users. Extra credits are monthly plans from $20 for 1,200 credits to $10,000 for 1,000,000 (Close AI credits, October 2026).
The CRM plans list at $9, $35, $99 and $139 per user a month (Close pricing, October 2026). The page has a monthly and an annual toggle and says annual saves up to 50%, but its text does not say which cycle these figures show.
Cost per 10k records: one field each is 60,000 credits, which is the $750 plan, as arithmetic.
2. LeadOcean: best for API, agent and volume enrichment
LeadOcean is a B2B data API with a hosted MCP server. It holds 693M people and 67M companies. You call it from a script, a workflow tool or an agent, and write the result back to Close.
It is built for what a native app cannot handle: tens of thousands of records, or scheduled lookups. POST /v1/people/enrich takes an email, a LinkedIn URL, a phone or a person id. POST /v1/companies/enrich takes a domain. A person we hold nothing for is a 404 and costs nothing. The script below is the whole integration.
LeadOcean is not a Close app. There is no one-click sync, no sidebar and no Chrome extension. Close users who never touch code should start with a native tool. A team with a developer, a Make scenario or a Claude agent gets the lowest cost per record here. Close runs its own MCP server, so one agent can read Close and call LeadOcean (Close docs, October 2026).
Pros
- Flat pricing: Solo $97 a month, Agency $497 a month. No per-record price or overage invoice.
- Search and enrich on one key. Sizing a list with counts is free.
- 13 MCP tools, so an agent can look up a contact and update Close.
- A miss costs nothing.
Cons
- Enrich takes one identifier: email, LinkedIn URL, phone or person id. There is no name plus domain lookup.
- No native Close sync. You write the mapping.
- Bulk CSV export is not on Free.
Best for: Engineers, RevOps with scripts, and agents that enrich at volume.
Pricing: Free $0 (1,000 records for life), Solo $97 a month, Agency $497 a month, Platform $1,997 a month (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026). Solo covers 10k enrichments every 5 hours, so 10,000 contacts fit in one month at $97.
The LeadOcean to Close recipe
List the Close contacts that have a LinkedIn URL and no email. Enrich each one, then update that contact by its id. Updating by id means the script cannot create a twin. It also writes only to an empty emails list, so no rep-typed value is overwritten. For more Close tools, see 8 Close CRM enrichment tools.
const auth = "Basic " + Buffer.from(process.env.CLOSE_API_KEY + ":").toString("base64");
const close = (path, opts = {}) =>
fetch("https://api.close.com/api/v1" + path, {
...opts,
headers: { Authorization: auth, "Content-Type": "application/json" },
}).then((r) => r.json());
const page = await close("/contact/?_limit=100&_fields=id,emails,phones,urls");
for (const c of page.data) {
const li = (c.urls ?? []).find((u) => u.url.includes("linkedin.com/in/"));
if (!li || (c.emails ?? []).length) continue;
const r = await fetch("https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich", {
method: "POST",
headers: { "x-api-key": process.env.LEADOCEAN_API_KEY, "content-type": "application/json" },
body: JSON.stringify({ linkedin_url: li.url, reveal_email: true }),
});
if (r.status === 404) continue; // nobody matched, no charge
const d = (await r.json()).data.contact_data;
const e = d.contact_emails?.find((x) => ["verified", "catch_all_valid"].includes(x.status));
if (!e) continue;
await close(`/contact/${c.id}/`, {
method: "PUT",
body: JSON.stringify({ emails: [{ email: e.email, type: "office" }] }),
});
}Test on 10 contacts first, and read email_status before you send. Close takes phone numbers in E.164 format, so normalize any number you add (Close API docs, October 2026). Close rate limits per endpoint group, so wait for the retry-after header on a 429 (Close rate limits, October 2026).
To add new leads, size the list first with the free leadocean_count_leads tool or GET /v1/companies/count. Then load an export through Close's importer with Check if Leads already exist on.
3. Clay: best for RevOps who build tables

Clay is a table where each column calls a data provider. Its Close integration can look up existing records, create and update leads or contacts, and enroll prospects in sequences (Close integrations, October 2026). You choose the columns, and Clay writes them.
Dedupe is yours to design: add a lookup column ahead of the create step and branch on a hit.
Cost is two meters. Actions are under $0.01 each, and Data Credits start at $0.05. A fully enriched record typically costs 6 to 20 Data Credits, plus one Action per enrichment (Clay docs, September 2026). An enrichment that returns no result is not charged.
For 10,000 email lookups at Clay's own example of 0.5 credit per find, you need 10,000 Actions and 5,000 Data Credits. On Launch that is $185 plus about 2,500 extra credits at a 30 percent premium, near $350 a month. This is arithmetic from Clay's example, not a published email price.
Pros
- Many sources and waterfalls in one table.
- Free plan with 100 Data Credits and 500 Actions a month.
- No charge when an enrichment finds nothing.
Cons
- Two meters to model.
- Phone enrichment is not on the Free plan.
- The HTTP API column needs Growth.
- No self-serve tier reaches 1M lookups a month.
Best for: RevOps builders who want to design the enrichment logic.
Pricing: Launch $185 a month ($167 billed yearly) with 15,000 Actions and 2,500 Data Credits. Growth $495 a month ($446 billed yearly) (Clay pricing, September 2026). Cost at 1M: no public price.
4. FullEnrich: best for waterfall emails and phones
FullEnrich checks 25+ data sources in sequence and bills only on a find. API, MCP, search and bulk CSV are on every plan. Its integrations page lists HubSpot, Zapier, Make, n8n and Clay, and no Close connector (FullEnrich, September 2026). To reach Close you use its API, one of those automation tools, or Clay's Close integration.
That puts field mapping and dedupe in your hands.
Credits make the cost easy to predict. A work email is 1 credit, a personal email 3 and a mobile 10. A miss or a landline costs 0 (FullEnrich docs, September 2026). Ten thousand work emails is 10,000 credits, or $499 a month.
The API allows 60 calls a minute, with up to 100 contacts per bulk request (FullEnrich docs, September 2026). That suits a nightly Close job.
Pros
- Waterfall across 25+ sources, charged only on a find.
- Unused credits roll over 3 months monthly, 12 months yearly.
- API and MCP on every plan.
Cons
- No listed Close connector.
- A mobile costs 10 credits, so phone-heavy lists add up.
- 60 API calls a minute.
- No public price at 1M.
Best for: RevOps teams that want phones and emails from several sources and can wire an automation step.
Pricing: Pro from $29 a month for 500 credits ($26 billed yearly). 10,000 credits is $499 a month. Top public monthly tier is 100,000 credits at $3,500 (FullEnrich pricing, September 2026).
5. UpLead: best for verified B2B lists pushed into Close
UpLead is a B2B prospecting tool, and Close lists it as an integration. Its Close page says the integration imports new prospects into Close in one click (Close integrations, October 2026). It does not describe duplicate handling. Run the import through Close's own duplicate check.
The billing rule is a strength. For contacts with an email, a credit is charged only when the status is Valid or Accept All. Unmatched enrichment rows are refunded (UpLead docs, September 2026).
The catch is the API. The Enrichment API and full API access are ticked only on the custom Professional plan, not on Essentials or Plus. UpLead documents 500 requests a minute and no MCP server (UpLead docs, September 2026). For a script-driven Close job, that rules out the entry plans.
Pros
- Credits are charged only for Valid or Accept All emails.
- Native Close push for new prospects.
- Unmatched enrichment rows are refunded.
Cons
- Entry plans have 170 or 400 credits a month.
- Full API access is Professional only, by custom quote.
- No MCP server in the docs.
- Extra credit purchases are capped at $2,000 a day.
Best for: Reps who build lists in a UI and push them into Close.
Pricing: Essentials $99 a month for 170 credits ($74 billed yearly). Plus $199 a month for 400 credits ($149 billed yearly). Extra credits cost $0.60 on Essentials and $0.50 on Plus (UpLead pricing, September 2026). 10,000 records on Plus is $199 plus 9,600 extra credits at $0.50, about $4,999 a month, as arithmetic. The $2,000 daily purchase cap spreads that over three days (UpLead help, September 2026).
6. Findymail: best for LinkedIn leads with verified emails
Findymail is an email finder that verifies each address when you ask. Close lists it as an integration that finds verified emails and syncs LinkedIn leads to Close (Close integrations, October 2026). For batch work there is a REST API and an official MCP server with 14 tools (Findymail plugin, September 2026). An email costs 1 credit and a phone number 10. A lookup that finds no verified email costs nothing (Findymail API docs, September 2026).
The phone endpoint returns US numbers only, so a global Close list gets mostly empty phone lookups. The pricing page sits behind a bot check, so we state no plan prices.
Pros
- Each address is verified when you ask.
- One-click LinkedIn push into Close.
- A miss on email costs nothing.
Cons
- Phones cost 10 credits and cover US numbers only.
- Lead search is a plain-language query with no structured filters.
- Plan prices were not readable for this page.
- No public price at 1M.
Best for: Outbound reps who source from LinkedIn and need verified emails.
Pricing: Findymail's pricing page showed a bot check in October 2026, so this page quotes no Findymail plan price. Cost at 1M: no public price.
Comparison table
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month | API | MCP | Rate limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Close AI Enrichment | Close-only teams | Included credits, extra from $20 a month | No public 1M price | Close API | Close MCP server, not for enrichment calls | Close API limits per endpoint group |
| LeadOcean | API, agents, volume | Free, then $97 a month | $497 a month (Agency) | Yes | Yes, 13 tools | 5, 50, 200 or 10,000 a second by plan |
| Clay | RevOps builders | $185 a month | No public 1M price | Yes, every plan | Yes (Clay MCP, October 2026) | Not published |
| FullEnrich | Waterfall emails and phones | $29 a month | No public 1M price | Yes | Yes | 60 calls a minute |
| UpLead | Verified lists into Close | $99 a month | No public 1M price | Professional plan only | Not documented | 500 a minute |
| Findymail | LinkedIn leads | Not quoted here | No public 1M price | Yes | Yes, 14 tools | 300 concurrent requests |
Prices are monthly list, with the yearly figure after it in the sections above. Vendor pages were checked in September and October 2026, and prices change.
How to choose
- No engineer, Close only: start with Close AI Enrichment for firmographic fields. Add a verified email source for contacts.
- A developer, a script or an agent: LeadOcean. One key does search and enrich, and Agency is $497 a month flat.
- RevOps who design the logic: Clay, if you accept two meters.
- Phones and emails from many sources: FullEnrich, wired through Make, n8n or Clay.
- Reps who build lists in a UI: UpLead or Findymail, with Close's duplicate check switched on.
- Under 1,000 records, once: LeadOcean Free covers it with no card.
Verdict
For a Close admin with no code, the native AI Enrichment wins on effort. Expect to add a source for verified emails and phones. For list building, UpLead and Findymail push straight into Close, and Findymail verifies per lookup. For several sources without a native app, Clay or FullEnrich do the job at a cost you model by credit. For volume through an API or an agent, LeadOcean wins on price, at $97 on Solo and $497 on Agency. You build the mapping yourself.
FAQ
What is the best enrichment tool for Close?
It depends on who runs it. Close AI Enrichment is the default with no code. For API volume and agents, LeadOcean. For waterfall emails and phones through an automation tool, FullEnrich or Clay.
Does Close enrich contacts for free?
No. Enrichment is on every plan, but each field costs 6 AI credits. Plans include a monthly pool, and extra credits are a separate monthly subscription (Close AI credits, October 2026).
How do I avoid duplicates when I enrich Close leads?
Update existing records by id instead of creating new ones. For imports, turn on Check if Leads already exist and pick the fields to compare (Close docs, October 2026).
Will enrichment overwrite what my reps typed?
Close bulk enrichment fills empty fields unless you tick Override existing values. With an API script, write only when the field is empty, as the recipe above does.
How much does it cost to enrich 10,000 Close contacts?
At monthly list prices: Close AI Enrichment, about $750 for one field each. LeadOcean Solo, $97. FullEnrich, $499. Clay, about $350 on our arithmetic. UpLead Plus, about $4,999 on our arithmetic.
Can an AI agent enrich Close records?
Yes, through MCP. Close runs its own MCP server, and LeadOcean has 13 tools, including a free count tool. Keep the agent on approval for any action that spends records.
Enrich your Close contacts through an API. Start free.
