A lead generation company for contractors finds you the next job, either by selling you homeowner requests, commercial bid opportunities or the contact details of the people who hire. Which one you want depends on whether you do residential repairs, bid commercial work or sell to other businesses. We ranked six, and the right one changes with the work.
Most "best of" lists mix three different products. Angi and Thumbtack are marketplaces: a homeowner posts a job and you pay to respond. ConstructConnect is a bid board for commercial projects. Apollo, ZoomInfo and LeadOcean are contact databases for outbound. If you also use a data tool as an API, see our pages on the Apollo alternative and the ZoomInfo alternative.

| ConstructConnect | Subcontractors bidding commercial projects | $129 a month per market | Not a records product |
| Angi | Residential contractors who want homeowner requests | No public price | Not a records product |
| Thumbtack | Small crews who want local job requests | No price we could read | Not a records product |
| Apollo | Sales-led teams who want a prospecting app | Free; Basic $65 per seat a month | $24,750 a month (list, monthly billing) |
| ZoomInfo | Enterprise teams with a budget and a quote process | GTM AI: pay as you go from $20 of credits | No public 1M price |
What we evaluated
- Lead type. Is it a homeowner request, a commercial project or a named buyer with an email? This decides everything else.
- Price model. Per lead, per market, per seat or flat. We list the monthly list price first and the yearly figure after it.
- Lead exclusivity. Do other contractors get the same lead? Sourced where the vendor says so, otherwise marked as unknown.
- API and MCP access. Can you pull leads into your own tool or an agent, and at what rate limit?
- Cost at volume. What does 1M records a month cost at list price? Tools that do not sell records say so.
1. LeadOcean: best for outbound to commercial buyers at volume
LeadOcean is a people and company data API with a hosted MCP server. It does not send you homeowner requests or bid documents. It finds the people who hire contractors: property managers, facilities directors, builders, developers and owners. You filter, pull emails and phone numbers, and contact them yourself.
For contractors the useful filters are industry, headcount, location and job title. A free count on 2026-10-21 found 5,877 US companies in four contractor industries: Specialty Trade Contractors, Building Structure and Exterior Contractors, Building Finishing Contractors and Building Equipment Contractors. Of those, 5,024 are 1 to 10 people. That is the honest limit: small trades are thinly covered, so LeadOcean fits contractors who sell to businesses better than those who want other contractors as customers.
The sizing call is free, so you can test your own market before you pay. The leadocean_count_companies MCP tool and GET /v1/companies/count return an exact total with breakdowns by state and headcount. There is no rep workspace, sequencer or CRM. You export a CSV from the app or call the API, then send from your own tool.
curl -s "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" -H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"title":["Property Manager"],"country":["US"],"limit":25}'Pros
- Flat monthly price: Agency is $497 a month with no credits and no per-record price.
- Free plan with 1,000 records for life, no card, and free sizing calls.
- REST API and a 13-tool MCP server on every plan.
- Email status on every record, so you can send to verified addresses only.
Cons
- No homeowner leads and no bid documents.
- Thin coverage of very small trades (most contractor companies found are 1 to 10 people).
- Bulk CSV export is not on the Free plan.
- No sequencer, dialer or CRM.
Best for: contractors, builders and suppliers who sell to commercial buyers and want the data in code or an agent.
Pricing: Free $0; Solo $97 a month; Agency $497 a month (200 requests a second); Platform $1,997 a month. LeadOcean pricing, October 2026.
2. ConstructConnect: best for subcontractors bidding commercial work
ConstructConnect is a bid board for commercial construction. It lists projects open for bid, plan holders and key contacts, and it matches opportunities to your trade and market. Saved searches email you new projects each day.
It sells by market, not by lead. The Starter plan covers one license and one market, with project details and key contacts. Professional adds all plans, specifications and addenda, planning projects, contact information with phone, email and LinkedIn, and data export. Premium is custom with multiple markets and analytics.
This is the tool when you want to bid, not prospect. You do not get a list of every property manager. You get projects that are already out for bid, with the competition already looking.
Pros
- Real commercial projects with bid dates and documents on higher plans.
- Plan holder and bidder lists show who you are up against.
- Monthly Starter plan with no annual commitment.
Cons
- Priced per market, so more territories cost more.
- Documents, contact details and export sit behind the annual Professional plan.
- Public work is bid by many firms at once.
Best for: subcontractors and estimators who bid commercial and public projects.
Pricing: Starter $129 a month per market; Professional from $199 a month per market on an annual contract; Premium custom. ConstructConnect pricing, September 2026.
3. Angi: best for residential contractors who want homeowner requests
Angi is a homeowner marketplace for home services. Its pro site says it saw over 1.5M opportunities in the last month and asks you to pick your service to get leads (Angi Pro, September 2026). Services listed include painting, remodeling, lawn care and handyman work.
You respond to homeowner requests. Angi shows no price on its pro page before you sign up. The page also does not say whether a lead goes to more than one contractor (Angi Pro, October 2026). Ask for both in writing before you commit a budget.
The lead is a consumer who has just asked for a quote. Close rate depends on your speed and your reviews, so test with a small budget first.
Pros
- Homeowners with an active job request, not a cold list.
- Covers many home service categories.
- No data work on your side.
Cons
- Price is not public before signup.
- Exclusivity is not stated on the pro page, so confirm it.
- You cannot export the leads to your own database in bulk.
Best for: residential repair, remodeling and lawn contractors who can answer a request within minutes.
Pricing: No public price before signup. Angi Pro, October 2026.
4. Thumbtack: best for small crews who want local job requests
Thumbtack is a consumer marketplace where customers describe a job and local pros respond. It is closest to Angi in model and audience.
Thumbtack restricted access to its pro page when we tried to read it in October 2026, and it publishes no price list we could find. Treat any per-lead figure you read on a blog as unverified until you see it in your own account.
Because both marketplaces run on pay to respond, the practical test is cost per signed job. Track that for 30 days on a small budget before you scale either one.
Pros
- Built for a solo contractor or small crew.
- Customers come to you with a described job.
- No data work on your side.
Cons
- No price we could read before you create an account.
- Other pros can quote on the same job, so speed matters.
- No data you can reuse for outbound.
Best for: solo contractors and small crews doing local residential work.
Pricing: No price we could read; the pro page restricted our access. Thumbtack for pros, October 2026.
5. Apollo: best for a prospecting app with a free start

Apollo is a prospecting app with a contact database, a sequencer and a dialer. A contractor who sells to commercial buyers can search by title and company, then email from the same tool. It is a sales app first and a data source second.
Pricing is per seat. Billed monthly, Free is $0 with 75 credits a month, Basic is $65, Professional $99 and Organization $149 per seat. Billed yearly they are $49, $79 and $119. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 8 (Apollo pricing, September 2026; Apollo API pricing, September 2026).
Apollo runs an official MCP server on any plan (Apollo docs, September 2026). Credits are pooled across the team and do not roll over.
Pros
- Search, sequences and dialer in one app.
- Free plan to test it.
- API and MCP on every plan.
Cons
- Per-seat and per-credit pricing climbs with volume.
- Phone numbers cost 8 credits each.
- Price of extra credits is not public.
Best for: a small sales team that wants one app for finding and contacting buyers.
Pricing: Free; Basic $65 per seat a month billed monthly ($49 billed yearly). Apollo pricing, September 2026.
6. ZoomInfo: best for enterprise teams with a quote process
ZoomInfo is an enterprise sales intelligence suite. Its newer GTM AI product sells data credits pay as you go, from $0.45 each at the base tier down to $0.25 at 100,000 credits ($25,000). One credit enriches or exports one record, and search and lookup are free (GTM AI pricing, September 2026).
For a contractor, this is usually too much tool. It fits a national builder, a manufacturer or a distributor with a sales team and a budget. It ships an official MCP server and a 5 requests a second free tier (GTM AI docs, September 2026).
The public credit slider stops at 100,000 credits, so there is no public price at 1M records.
Pros
- Large database with phone numbers and intent signals.
- Pay-as-you-go credits with no contract on GTM AI.
- MCP and API available.
Cons
- Credits add up fast at volume.
- Platform plans are quoted by sales.
- Overkill for a local contractor.
Best for: national builders and suppliers with a dedicated sales team.
Pricing: GTM AI credits from $0.45 to $0.25 each by purchase size. GTM AI pricing, September 2026.

How to choose
- You fix homes and want jobs this week: try Angi or Thumbtack with a small budget and track cost per signed job.
- You bid commercial or public projects: ConstructConnect.
- You sell to property managers, builders or facilities teams: a data tool. LeadOcean if you pull it by API or agent, Apollo if you want an app with sequences.
- You are a national player with a sales team: ZoomInfo, after you get the quote.
- You do not know your market size yet: run the free counts first. They cost nothing on LeadOcean.
Verdict
For residential work, Angi and Thumbtack are the starting points, and the only test that matters is cost per signed job. For commercial bids, ConstructConnect wins. For outbound to the people who hire contractors, LeadOcean wins when you use an API or an agent and want a flat $497 a month at volume. Apollo wins when you want the sequencer in the same app. ZoomInfo wins only when you need an enterprise suite.
