ZoomInfo and ContactOut both sell contact data, but to different people. ZoomInfo is a contact database sold by the credit and by contract. ContactOut is a LinkedIn-first email and phone finder that you mostly use in a browser.
ZoomInfo has two ways in. The platform is the sales suite, sold by quote. GTM AI is the newer pay-as-you-go API and MCP product. This page compares GTM AI with ContactOut, because that is where ZoomInfo's prices are public.
Verdict
- Pick ZoomInfo if you want one first-party database with direct dials, intent data and rate limits in writing. Credit prices are public up to 100,000 credits, and a record is charged once per 12 months.
- Pick ContactOut if a recruiter or rep works from LinkedIn in a browser and wants a cheap monthly seat. Email is $49 a month and Email + Phone is $99 a month, and you can start on a free plan.
- Pick neither if you pull hundreds of thousands of records in code or through an agent. Neither publishes a 1M price, and ContactOut's API needs a sales meeting. A flat-price API fits that job better (see the LeadOcean section below).

Data and coverage
Every number above is a vendor claim, and neither vendor explains how it counts. ZoomInfo's own pages disagree on contacts (420M+ and 500M+). ContactOut's disagree on profiles (800M and 600M+).
ZoomInfo sells direct dials as a core feature, and its Sales page claims 120M+ of them. ContactOut claims 100M. Neither page we read gives a phone accuracy rate, so treat both as marketing figures.
The two tools find people differently. ContactOut starts from a LinkedIn profile URL and returns the emails and phones it holds for that person. ZoomInfo searches by role, industry and location first, then enriches the IDs you pick.
ZoomInfo also sells things ContactOut does not list: intent data and business-event signals are GTM AI operations (ZoomInfo credit docs, September 2026). ContactOut lists no intent or signal data.
Match rate depends on your input. A LinkedIn URL matches far more often than a name alone. You cannot settle coverage on paper, so run the same 500 people through both free plans and count the hits.
API and developer experience
ZoomInfo is search first, then enrich by ID. ContactOut is lookup first, by LinkedIn URL.
ZoomInfo authenticates with an OAuth bearer token and sends JSON:API content types. Search is free. This is the contact search call from its docs, with a placeholder company (ZoomInfo API tutorial, September 2026). Here it is.
curl --request POST \
--url https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/data/v1/contacts/search \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $ZOOMINFO_ACCESS_TOKEN" \
--header "accept: application/vnd.api+json" \
--header "content-type: application/vnd.api+json" \
--data '{"data":{"attributes":{"companyName":"Acme"},"type":"ContactSearch"}}'The response carries IDs and flags such as hasEmail and hasDirectPhone. You then enrich the IDs you want, at most 25 per call, and each new record costs one credit (ZoomInfo docs, September 2026).
ContactOut authenticates with a token header and you cannot get a key without booking a meeting. This is its single contact info call, with a placeholder profile (ContactOut API docs, September 2026). Here it is.
curl "https://api.contactout.com/v1/people/linkedin?profile=https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe&include_phone=true" \
--header "Accept: application/json" \
--header "token: $CONTACTOUT_API_TOKEN"The docs state credit use as one email credit if an email is found, one phone credit if a phone is found and one search credit for search results. They give no dollar price per credit (ContactOut API docs, September 2026).
Limits differ in kind. ZoomInfo publishes three windows per package: per second, per hour and per day. Builder gets 5 requests a second and 129,600 a day. A second ZoomInfo docs page lists 25 a second as the default, so check which applies to you (ZoomInfo rate limits, September 2026).
ContactOut limits are per minute. People Search at 60 a minute is a person clicking, not a worker queue. Its other APIs allow 1,000 a minute.
Both have an MCP server. ZoomInfo's works in Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and Copilot, and needs a GTM AI account or a ZoomInfo subscription with data credits. ContactOut's lists 15 tools and starts with 600+ free credits.
Pricing
ZoomInfo GTM AI charges by the data credit. ContactOut charges a monthly seat fee with fair-use ceilings, and prices its API on request. To compare, convert both to cost per record.
At 10,000 records a month
For ZoomInfo, take 10,000 new contacts. That is 10,000 data credits at 1 credit each. List price at the 2,500 to 10,000 credit tier is $0.38, so 10,000 x $0.38 = $3,800 (GTM AI pricing, September 2026). There is no yearly price, because credits are pay as you go.
A record is charged once per 12 months. If 3,000 of those contacts were enriched earlier in the year, you pay for 7,000. Search, lookup and find similar cost nothing (ZoomInfo credit docs, September 2026).
For ContactOut, there is no public price at 10,000. Paid unlimited plans follow a fair-use policy of 2,000 email credits and 1,000 phone credits per account per month (ContactOut terms, September 2026). 10,000 / 2,000 = 5 times the ceiling.
Self-serve plans are limited to one user per company, so you cannot add accounts to go faster. Exports are capped at 300 a month on Email and 600 on Email + Phone (ContactOut pricing, September 2026). Ten thousand records a month means the API, which is quoted by sales.
At low volume the picture flips. Email is $49 a month on monthly billing, $39 a month billed yearly. Email + Phone is $99 a month, $79 a month billed yearly. For a few hundred lookups a month, ContactOut is far cheaper than 300 ZoomInfo credits at list price.
At 1M records a month
ZoomInfo has no public 1M price. The GTM AI slider stops at 100,000 credits for $25,000, which is $0.25 a credit. Past that it is Enterprise, by quote (GTM AI pricing, September 2026). Do not multiply $0.25 by 10 and call it a quote.
Platform pricing is a separate question. ZoomInfo's own price page sits behind a human check, so this page quotes no platform plan price. Vendr reports a median of $33,500 a year across 1,574 purchases (Vendr, updated February 2026).
ContactOut has no public 1M price either. 1,000,000 / 2,000 emails per account per month = 500 account-months, but self-serve allows one user per company. That is arithmetic, not a public path (ContactOut terms, September 2026). The Team / API plan shows Contact Us with no price (ContactOut pricing, September 2026).
Where ZoomInfo wins
- Its own database. One first-party source with direct dials and intent data, not a LinkedIn lookup. Intent enrichment is a listed GTM AI operation.
- Published limits. Rate limits by package, in writing, per second, hour and day.
- A readable ladder. Credit prices from $0.45 down to $0.25 are on the page, up to 100,000 credits (GTM AI pricing, September 2026).
- API access you can start today. A free account includes the API and MCP server, with no meeting.
Where ContactOut wins
- A low monthly price. $49 or $99 a month covers a person doing LinkedIn lookups. That beats any ZoomInfo credit pack at a few hundred records.
- A browser workflow. The Chrome extension and search portal are the core product. The free plan gives 5 emails a day (ContactOut homepage, September 2026).
- A larger claimed profile count. 800M against ZoomInfo's 420M+ to 500M+, though both are claims.
- Personal emails. ContactOut lists 150M personal emails on its data page. ZoomInfo's Sales page does not split them out.
If you need volume through an API
We build LeadOcean, so weigh this section accordingly. LeadOcean holds 693M people and 63M companies, reachable over REST and a hosted MCP server. Free is 1,000 records, one-off, with no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat, with no credits and 100 requests per second per key (LeadOcean pricing, September 2026).
For bulk work, POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request. The app has an Exports page with a filter builder and CSV download (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). A very large month is paced down past the fair-usage line, so email support before you plan 1M. LeadOcean has no Chrome extension, intent data or sequencer. See the ZoomInfo alternative page for a line-by-line version.
FAQ
Is ZoomInfo or ContactOut cheaper?
ContactOut, at small volume. Email is $49 a month and Email + Phone is $99 a month. ZoomInfo lists $0.38 a credit at the $1,000 tier, so 10,000 records is $3,800 and ContactOut has no public price at that size.
Does ContactOut have an API and an MCP server?
Yes to both. The API has limits of 60 requests a minute on People Search and 1,000 a minute on most other endpoints. The MCP server lists 15 tools (ContactOut API docs, September 2026; ContactOut MCP, September 2026).
Does ZoomInfo have an API and an MCP server?
Yes. GTM AI includes both on its free tier, with 5 requests a second on the Builder package (GTM AI pricing, September 2026). Platform plan prices could not be read from ZoomInfo's own site.
Which has more email and phone data?
By claims, ContactOut has more profiles (800M) and ZoomInfo has more direct dials (120M+ against 100M). The email claims use different labels: 174M-plus verified for ZoomInfo, 200M work emails for ContactOut. Neither is independently measured, so test your own list.
Is ContactOut really unlimited?
Not on volume. Unlimited plans are capped at 2,000 email and 1,000 phone credits per account per month (ContactOut terms, September 2026).
What is the cheapest way to pull a million records?
Neither tool publishes a 1M price, so there is nothing to compare on paper. A flat monthly price is the easiest to budget. LeadOcean Pro is $499 a month, with a free plan of 1,000 records to test.
