Enriching data is adding missing fields, such as job title, company, phone number or email status, to a record you already hold, by matching it against another data source.
You start with a thin record: an email address, a LinkedIn URL or a company domain. Enrichment returns the rest.
The word covers two jobs. One fills gaps in a list you own. The other refreshes fields that have gone stale. Both work by looking the record up in a larger database and writing the answer back.
Why it matters for outbound
Outbound runs on fields, not on names. You cannot route a lead by seniority, pick a message by job function or skip an unverified address if the record carries none of them.
Enrichment also decides what you buy. A form fill or a trade-show scan gives you an email and little else. Filling the gaps by lookup keeps the leads you already have, instead of buying a fresh list and hoping it overlaps.
Enriched fields age, because people change jobs. Re-enrich before a big send, and read the verification status before you mail anyone.
Example
A webinar gives you one row: jane.doe@acme.com. You do not know her title, her level or whether the address is safe to mail.
You send that email to an enrichment endpoint. It comes back with her job title at Acme (acme.com), her seniority, the company record and an email status such as verified. If the lookup finds nobody, you learn that too and drop the row.

POST /v1/people/enrich takes exactly one of linkedin_url, email, phone or person_id. reveal_email (default false) returns the address. There is no name plus domain lookup: search by domain first, then enrich by person_id (openapi.json, September 2026).
For a company, use POST /v1/companies/enrich. For a whole account, GET /v1/companies/{domain}/people lists the people LeadOcean holds there.
A person LeadOcean holds nothing for returns a 404 and costs nothing. The MCP server offers the same lookups as the get_lead and get_company tools, plus find_phone. Each hit counts one record, and a get_lead that finds nobody is free.
Every record carries fetched_at, and the dataset is refreshed monthly. LeadOcean does not refund bounced emails, so read email_status before you send.
