A free email finder turns a name and a company into a working business email address without asking for a card. Most "free" plans are small. Hunter gives 50 lookups a month, Lusha 40 and Apollo 75. That is enough to test a tool and not enough to run outreach.
This page ranks six finders on the free plan first, then on what the next step costs. If you only want to test, any of them works. If you will pull emails in code or with an agent, the details matter. Five have a comparison page: Hunter, Prospeo, Apollo, Lusha and Anymail Finder. New to the category? "1M records" means 1M work-email lookups that return a result, at list price, one credit each where the vendor uses credits. Where no plan sells 1M, the cell shows the cheapest public path or says so.
What we evaluated
- Free allowance: how many lookups you get before a card, and whether the allowance renews or runs out.
- API on the free plan: whether code can call the tool without paying, and how fast.
- MCP: whether an agent can call the tool, and which plans include it.
- Price of the next step: the list price of the first paid plan and of 1M lookups.
- What a miss costs: whether a lookup that finds nothing uses a credit.
We read each vendor's pricing page and docs in September 2026, and LeadOcean's in October 2026. We ran no find-rate or accuracy test, so we quote none of our own. A number a vendor publishes is labeled a vendor claim.
1. LeadOcean: best for a free plan that never expires, plus API and agent use
LeadOcean is a people and company database behind one REST API and one MCP server. It holds 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 67M companies. You search with 50 people filters, then take the email from the same record.
The free plan is 1,000 records for life, with no card and every feature. It does not renew, so it is a larger one-off than any monthly plan here. API keys on Free get both scopes, search and enrich, at 5 requests a second. Solo is $97 a month for one person. Agency is $497 a month and runs 200 requests a second with 5 keys. Paid plans have no credits, only a fair-use pace.
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
-H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"linkedin_url":"https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe","reveal_email":true}'Work emails are also at GET /v2/people/email/work. The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 13 tools, from search_leads to find_phone and export_leads (LeadOcean MCP docs, October 2026). Counts are free, so you can size a list before you spend a record.
Pros
- 1,000 records for life, with every feature and no card.
- Search by 50 people filters, then take emails from the same database.
- Email status on every record, from
verifiedtospam_trap. - REST and MCP on every plan, including Free. A miss on
POST /v1/people/enrichis a free 404.
Cons
- The free allowance is one-off. When the 1,000 records are spent, the key answers 402.
- No lookup by name plus domain. Search by company domain first, then enrich by
person_id. - The v2 contact endpoints cost one record per call, including a call that finds nothing.
- No Chrome extension, sequencer, dialer or CRM. Bulk CSV export is not on Free.
Best for: engineers, founders and agents that want search plus emails, a free start and a flat monthly price after it.
Pricing: Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Solo is $97 a month and Agency is $497 a month (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026).
2. Hunter: best for a renewing free tier and a shared team pool
Hunter is built around a domain. One credit is one email found, and nothing is charged if nothing is found (Hunter help, September 2026). Unlimited team members share one credit pool, so a new hire adds no seat fee.
The free plan gives 50 credits a month, which is 50 emails found. Starter is $49 a month ($34 billed yearly) for 2,000 credits, Growth is $149 for 10,000 and Scale is $299 for 25,000 (Hunter pricing, September 2026). Monthly credits do not carry over. Bulk Email Finder takes up to 50,000 rows a file, but Free caps unpaid rows at 2,500 across uploads (Hunter bulk help, September 2026).
At volume the route is Data Platform, which sells 1,000,000 Search credits for $6,900, bought once and valid 12 months (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026). Core endpoints allow 15 requests a second and 500 a minute. The remote MCP server at https://mcp.hunter.io/mcp takes your API key and is included in every plan (Hunter API docs, September 2026; Hunter MCP, September 2026).
Pros
- A free plan that renews every month.
- Unlimited team members on one credit pool.
- 15 requests a second on the core endpoints.
- MCP server included on every plan, at no extra cost.
Cons
- 50 credits a month is a small allowance. It runs out in an afternoon of real prospecting.
- Domain-first. To build a list by title or seniority, you page through domains.
- Monthly credits expire at the end of the month.
- The top all-in-one plan stops at 25,000 credits a month, so volume means Data Platform.
Best for: small teams that find emails by domain and want a renewing free tier plus a shared pool.
Pricing: Free. Starter $49, Growth $149, Scale $299 a month, or less billed yearly (Hunter pricing, September 2026).
3. Prospeo: best for the biggest renewing free allowance
Prospeo sells an email and mobile finder per user, on credits. One verified email costs 1 credit and one mobile costs 10. A lookup that returns nothing costs nothing, and re-enriching the same record within 90 days is free (Prospeo help, September 2026).
Free has 100 credits a month, the largest renewing allowance on this page. Paid plans are priced per user: Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 credits, Growth is $99 for 5,000 and Pro is $249 for 15,000 (Prospeo pricing, September 2026). Billed yearly, Starter is $37 a month. Unused credits expire at the end of each cycle.
Whether Free includes the API is not settled. The pricing table shows no public API on Free, while the help center lists limited access at 50 requests a day (Prospeo help center, September 2026). Test a free key before you build on it.
The hosted MCP server at https://mcp.prospeo.io exposes 8 tools and signs in with OAuth 2.0 or an API key (Prospeo MCP docs, September 2026).
Pros
- 100 free credits a month, the most of any renewing plan here.
- A miss costs no credit, and repeat enrichment is free for 90 days.
- MCP signs in with OAuth or a key.
Cons
- Free plan API access is unclear in Prospeo's own pages.
- Per-user pricing, so a team adds seats and credits together.
- Daily caps of 2,000 on Starter and 5,000 on Growth (Prospeo rate limits, September 2026).
- No single tier reaches 1M. The cheapest public path is 44 Pro seats plus a $3,500 add-on.
Best for: one person or a small team that wants the largest free monthly allowance and may pay per rep later.
Pricing: Free. Starter $49, Growth $99, Pro $249 per user a month (Prospeo pricing, September 2026).
4. Apollo: best for a free tier inside a sales app

Apollo prices per seat, and credits are pooled across the team. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 8. Credits expire at the end of each billing cycle and do not roll over (Apollo API pricing, September 2026).
Free gives 75 credits a month. Billed yearly, the Free plan grants 900 credits a year, released monthly. Basic is $65 per seat a month with 2,500 credits ($49 billed yearly). Professional is $99 with 4,000. Organization is $149 with 6,000, with a minimum of 3 seats (Apollo pricing, September 2026).
Every plan includes API access. Free is held to 50 requests a minute and 600 a day, while paid enrichment reaches 1,000 requests a minute (Apollo rate limits, September 2026). The MCP server at https://mcp.apollo.io/mcp works on any plan, Free included, and spends the same credits (Apollo MCP docs, September 2026).
Pros
- A free tier with API and MCP access.
- A full prospecting app on the same login: search, lists and outreach.
- Credits are pooled across the team.
Cons
- Free lets you select only 25 records per action (Apollo pricing, September 2026).
- Per-seat pricing. A team of ten on Professional is $990 a month before extra credits.
- A phone number costs 8 credits, so the free plan buys about nine mobiles.
- At 1M lookups the seat math gives about $24,750 a month, the highest on this page.
Best for: reps who want search and outreach in one app and will start on the free plan.
Pricing: Free. Basic $65, Professional $99, Organization $149 per seat a month, or less billed yearly (Apollo pricing, September 2026).
5. Lusha: best for one-off lookups with a browser extension

Lusha's free plan is $0 for 40 credits a month, one seat and no card. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number costs 5 (Lusha pricing, September 2026). That makes 40 emails a month, the smallest allowance on this page.
Every user gets an API key by default, Free included. The Free key is held to 40 requests a minute and 100 a day, so it suits a test and not a job (Lusha API guide, September 2026). Starter is $49.90 a month for 400 credits ($37.45 billed yearly). Pro is $69.90 for 600 and Premium is $399.90 for 3,400.
The MCP server at https://mcp.lusha.com has 50 tools and shares the REST credit pool (Lusha MCP docs, September 2026). A bulk API request also charges 1 credit per 25 results on top of the data credits. Lusha has no public price at 1M: the top listed tier is 10,000 credits a month.
Pros
- A free API key on the free plan.
- A browser extension for one-off lookups.
- 50 MCP tools, the widest surface here.
Cons
- 40 credits a month is the smallest allowance in this list.
- The Free API key stops at 100 requests a day.
- Credits are dear: the lowest published rate is about $0.0795 a credit.
- No public price at 1M. Scale is custom.
Best for: someone who looks up a handful of contacts a week and wants an extension.
Pricing: Free. Starter $49.90, Pro $69.90, Premium $399.90 a month, or less billed yearly (Lusha pricing, September 2026).
6. Anymail Finder: best for verified emails for names you already hold
Anymail Finder has no standing free plan. New accounts get 100 free credits when a card is verified, and the card is not charged (Anymail Finder pricing, September 2026). The credits are one-off.
It charges 1 credit only when it finds a verified email. A decision-maker search costs 2 credits, and a company search costs 1 for up to 20 emails. A search that finds no verified email is free, and a repeat within 30 days is free.
Monthly plans run from $29 for 400 credits to $799 for 100,000 credits. The 1,000,000-credit pack is $4,990, valid 12 months. Unlimited team members share one credit pool. The API docs state no rate limits and no daily call caps (Anymail Finder API docs, September 2026). The MCP server has five actions and signs in without a key (Anymail Finder MCP, September 2026).
Pros
- Pay only for emails it verifies, with a bounce credit after review.
- No rate limits stated in the API docs.
- The 1M-credit pack is the cheapest one-off 1M purchase on this page.
- No per-seat price, and credits roll over on a subscription.
Cons
- Not free in the usual sense: the 100 credits need a card on file.
- No database search. You bring the people or companies to look up.
- The largest monthly plan is 100,000 credits for $799.
Best for: people with a known list of names and domains who accept a card check for a trial.
Pricing: $29 to $799 a month, or one-time packs up to $4,990 for 1,000,000 credits (Anymail Finder pricing, September 2026).

Sources are linked in each tool section. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on the pricing page before you buy. The 1M column is list-price arithmetic on email lookups. Hunter's and Anymail Finder's figures are one-off purchases valid 12 months, not monthly bills. Apollo's is 250 Professional seats at $99, and we could not confirm that Apollo sells that many seats self-serve. LeadOcean's is the Agency plan at its fair-use pace, so 1M a month sits inside ordinary use.

How many free emails do I get?
LeadOcean gives 1,000 records once. Prospeo gives 100 credits a month, Apollo 75 per seat, Hunter 50 and Lusha 40. Anymail Finder gives 100 once with a verified card. One work email costs 1 credit at each.
