Developers leave Explorium's API over three limits: credits, rate and request shape. Every call spends prepaid credits, from $0.06 each on Lite down to $0.015 on Scale, and packs expire after 12 months with no refund (Explorium pricing, September 2026). The default limit is 200 queries a minute per key, and each row in a bulk request counts as one query (Explorium docs, September 2026). A contact lookup also takes two calls, because you match a person to a prospect ID first. Async jobs need an uploaded ID file and stop at 10,000 records (Explorium docs, September 2026).
At list price, 1M email lookups cost about $30,000 on Explorium. This page ranks seven alternatives for developers, with code where it helps. For a two-column view, see LeadOcean vs Explorium. For tools aimed at reps, read Explorium alternatives.
TL;DR
| Tool | Best for | Starting price | Cost at 1M records a month |
|---|---|---|---|
| LeadOcean | API, agent and volume pulls | Free (1,000 records, one-off). Pro $499 a month | $499 a month flat. Fair use applies |
| BlitzAPI | Flat-price people and company search | Core $399 a month. Plus $499 adds verified emails | $499 on Plus, inside its 15M monthly fair-use line (accounts opened by September 30, 2026) |
| People Data Labs | Licensed datasets and per-match enrichment | Pro from $98 a month for 350 credits | No public 1M price. Above about 100,000 profiles a year it is quote only |
| Coresignal | Employee, company and job data | Mini $49 a month for 2,500 credits | No public price at 1M. About $10,000 derived at the Elite rate, for 20M credits |
| Crustdata | Live signals and change alerts | No public price list | no public dollar price per credit (Crustdata pricing, September 2026) |
| LeadMagic | Cheap valid emails by API | Essential $99 a month for 5,000 credits | No public price at 1M. Top tier is Ultimate, $849 a month for 100,000 credits |
| Apollo | Teams that want a database and a sequencer | Basic $49 per seat a month, billed annually | $24,750 a month on monthly billing (250 Professional seats), $19,600 a month billed yearly (400 Basic seats) |
"1M records" here means 1M work-email lookups that return a result, one credit each where the vendor uses credits. Where no public plan sells that volume, the cell says so and names the highest public tier or a derived figure. Enterprise quotes are lower, so ask each vendor at your volume.
What we evaluated
- Rate limit: the default requests allowed, and whether a bulk row counts as one or many.
- Auth and schema: how you sign in, and whether a lookup takes one call or an ID handshake first.
- Bulk export: rows per request, and whether large pulls run synchronously.
- MCP: whether an agent can search and enrich through the server, or only read documentation.
- Cost at 1M records: what the month costs at list price, flat, credits or seats.
We read each vendor's pricing page and docs in September 2026. We ran no find-rate or accuracy test for this page, so we quote no quality numbers.
1. LeadOcean: best for API, agent and volume pulls
LeadOcean is one dataset behind one REST API and one MCP server. It holds 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 63M companies. You search with 50 people filters and 34 company filters. Counts are free.
The price does not move with volume. Pro is $499 a month with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups, 5 API keys and 100 requests per second per key. There are no credits and no overage invoice. A very large month is paced down to one request a minute until the reset, not cut off. More headroom is one email to support.
The schema is the main difference from Explorium. Explorium takes a match call, then an enrich call with the prospect ID it returned. LeadOcean takes a LinkedIn URL or email and returns the profile in one call. The first two requests below are Explorium's, at 2 credits for an email and 5 with phone. The third is LeadOcean's, for one record.
curl -X POST "https://api.explorium.ai/v2/prospects/match" \
-H "api_key: $EXPLORIUM_API_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"prospects_to_match":[{"linkedin":"https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe"}]}'
curl -X POST "https://api.explorium.ai/v2/prospects/contact_information/enrich" \
-H "api_key: $EXPLORIUM_API_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"prospect_id":"<id from match>","parameters":{"contact_types":["email"]}}'
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" -H "content-type: application/json" \
-d '{"linkedin_url":"https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe","reveal_email":true}'Search works the same way. Explorium's fetch call is POST /v2/prospects with a filters object, and one credit buys one record (Explorium docs, September 2026). The LeadOcean equivalent is a query string, and 100 results count as 100 records.
curl "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/search?jobLevel=Director&country=US&limit=100" \
-H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY"The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 12 tools, from search_leads to find_phone and export_leads. No key gets pasted into a chat. Every person or company returned counts as one record, and count_leads is free, so you can size an audience before you pull it. Exports run up to 50,000 rows per request with POST /v1/exports.
Pros
- Flat $499 a month at any volume, with no credit meter.
- 100 requests per second per key on every plan, Free included.
- One-call enrichment by LinkedIn URL, with an email status on every record from
verifiedtospam_trap. - Free counts, and a miss on
POST /v1/people/enrichis a free 404.
Cons
- No event stream, intent data or AI research endpoint, which Explorium has.
- No rep workspace, sequencer or dialer. Export to your own tools.
- One dataset, so a niche source needs another tool.
Best for: engineers, RevOps and agents that need volume and a fixed bill.
Pricing: Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat (LeadOcean pricing, September 2026).
2. BlitzAPI: best for flat-price search and enrichment by API
BlitzAPI sells B2B data as an API on flat monthly plans. Its homepage lists people and company search, email and phone enrichment, jobs data and domain to LinkedIn matching, over 1B+ records (BlitzAPI, September 2026). It is the closest rival to LeadOcean on price model.
The plan ladder is where it gets fiddly. Core is $399 a month and leaves out emails and phones. Plus is $499 and adds verified work emails. Full is $599 and adds US phone numbers (BlitzAPI pricing, September 2026). If you enrich for contact data, you buy Plus or Full.
Check two things before you commit. The 50 requests per second and 15,000,000 monthly results are tied to accounts opened by September 30, 2026, against a standard 5 per second. Limits also apply per endpoint (BlitzAPI docs, September 2026). And its MCP server gives an assistant the API documentation, not the data (BlitzAPI docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Flat monthly price, with a fair-use line of 15,000,000 results a month for accounts opened by September 30, 2026. Limits for later accounts are not published (BlitzAPI Terms, September 2026).
- Jobs data and identity resolution sit next to people and company search.
- A free trial of 1,000 credits with no card.
Cons
- Three paid tiers, and phones need the top one.
- Phone numbers are US only on Full.
- The MCP server reads docs. An agent cannot search or enrich through it.
- The fast rate limit depends on when the account opened.
Best for: teams that want a flat-price search and enrichment API and run their own code.
Pricing: Core $399, Plus $499, Full $599 a month (BlitzAPI pricing, September 2026).
3. People Data Labs: best for licensed datasets and per-match enrichment

People Data Labs (PDL) is the nearest thing to Explorium's developer experience with a longer track record. It is a person and company data API with bulk licences. A request that returns a person costs one credit, and a miss costs none (PDL docs, September 2026).
The schema is open. Person Search queries any field in the person schema and returns 1 to 100 results a page (PDL docs, September 2026). Its All dataset lists 2.47 billion profiles, 592 million with an email (PDL datasets, September 2026). The key goes in a parameter or a header.
The price is the catch. Pro starts at $98 a month for 350 credits, and PDL puts Pro profiles at about $0.20 to $0.28 each (PDL pricing, September 2026). Enrichment allows 1,000 calls a minute on paid plans, but Person Search defaults to 10 a minute. Bulk enrichment takes 100 people per request (PDL docs, September 2026). We found no MCP server in PDL's docs index (PDL docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Enrichment allows 1,000 calls a minute on paid plans.
- Query on any person field, and bulk licences for your own warehouse.
- Unsuccessful requests are not billed.
Cons
- About $0.20 to $0.28 a profile, and no public 1M price. Above about 100,000 profiles a year it is quote only.
- Person Search defaults to 10 requests a minute.
- No MCP server in the docs, so agents need a wrapper you host.
Best for: teams that license data, or need a large open-schema person dataset.
Pricing: Free up to 100 records a month. Pro from $98 a month for 350 credits. Enterprise custom (PDL pricing, September 2026).
4. Coresignal: best for employee, company and job data in bulk

Coresignal sells employee, company and job records on credits, and lists 907M+ employee profiles (Coresignal, September 2026). It fits analytics and AI teams that need profiles and hiring data more than a contact finder. Multi-source employee records carry professional emails and a four-value email status. Base employee records list no email field, and neither dictionary lists a phone field (Coresignal docs, September 2026).
A Base record costs 10 credits, a multi-source record 20 and a job posting 1. Pro is $499 a month for 35,000 credits. Elite is $5,000 a month for 10M (Coresignal pricing, September 2026). A work-email lookup through the Contact Enrichment API bills 20 credits, so 1M lookups is 20M credits. There is no public price at 1M: Elite covers 10M credits, or 500,000 lookups. Two Elite months at $0.0005 a credit derive to about $10,000. That is arithmetic, not a listed price. 1M Base records at 10 credits would be $5,000 on Elite, but Base records carry no email.
The API is built for bulk. Bulk Collect takes up to 10,000 records per request, asynchronously (Coresignal docs, September 2026). Limits run from 5 to 100+ requests per second by plan (Coresignal docs, September 2026). Auth is an apikey header, and the MCP server signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 5 tools (Coresignal docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Job postings and employee data at volume, with a documented bulk endpoint.
- Rate limits reach 100+ requests per second on higher plans.
- OAuth MCP server on the same platform.
Cons
- No phone numbers in employee records.
- The $499 plan buys 35,000 credits, about 3,500 Base records.
- The MCP
entity_searchcall costs 20 credits.
Best for: teams that need profiles and job postings in bulk and accept a credit meter.
Pricing: Mini $49 to Elite $5,000 a month (Coresignal pricing, September 2026).
5. Crustdata: best for live signals and change alerts

Crustdata sells real-time company and people data through APIs for search, enrichment, jobs, posts and watchers. It lists 1 billion+ people and describes its data as continuously re-verified (Crustdata, September 2026). It is the closest match to Explorium's event and signal side.
Pricing is credit based and the public page shows no dollar price per credit (Crustdata pricing, September 2026). The docs list costs per call. Person search is 0.03 credits per result and person enrichment 1 to 7 credits (Crustdata docs, September 2026). Purchased credits expire after 12 months.
Volume is the catch. Standard search and enrich endpoints default to 15 to 30 requests a minute, and higher limits go through support (Crustdata docs, September 2026). At 30 a minute, one key makes about 1.3M single-record calls in 30 days. The MCP server at install.crustdata.com/mcp signs in with OAuth (Crustdata docs, September 2026).
Pros
- Live data and change watchers that a static database lacks.
- Cheap search at 0.03 credits per result, so you narrow before you enrich.
- MCP server that returns company, people and job data.
Cons
- No public price per credit, so you cannot price 1M records from the site.
- Default limits of 15 to 30 requests a minute, close to Explorium's 200 queries.
- Contact data costs more credits than a base profile.
Best for: AI SDR and signal workflows that need fresh data more than raw volume.
Pricing: Credit based, with no public price list. Per-call credit costs are in the docs (Crustdata docs, September 2026).
6. LeadMagic: best for cheap valid emails by API
LeadMagic is a credit-based enrichment API. It lists 400M+ people profiles and 25M+ companies, and reaches them through REST, CSV, a command-line tool and a hosted MCP server (LeadMagic, September 2026). Failed lookups cost nothing.
The credit price falls as you climb the plans. Essential is $99 a month for 5,000 credits. Professional is $499 for 50,000. Ultimate is $849 for 100,000, or $0.0085 a credit (LeadMagic pricing, September 2026). A valid email costs 1 credit and a mobile costs 5.
The Email Finder endpoint allows 600 requests a minute and takes an X-API-Key header. LeadMagic also states that a sustained find rate below 10% can lead to throttling or suspension (LeadMagic docs, September 2026). The MCP server uses OAuth, and a preview_cost call shows the price of a large job first (LeadMagic docs, September 2026).
Pros
- The lowest per-credit list price in this group, at $0.0085.
- No charge when an email is not found.
- Hosted MCP with a cost preview before large operations.
Cons
- The top self-serve plan is 100,000 credits, so 1M a month needs an Enterprise quote.
- A smaller stated database than Explorium: 400M+ people profiles.
- A minimum find-rate policy can throttle lists with poor match rates.
Best for: teams that enrich a few hundred thousand valid emails a month and want the cheapest credits.
Pricing: Essential $99, Growth $249, Professional $499, Ultimate $849 a month (LeadMagic pricing, September 2026).
7. Apollo: best for teams that want a database and a sequencer

Apollo is a sales platform with a contact database attached. It lists 240M+ contacts and 30M+ companies, sequences, a dialer and a Chrome extension (Apollo MCP page, September 2026). It ranks last because the pricing is built around seats, not volume.
Basic is $49 per seat a month with 30,000 credits a year. Professional is $79 with 48,000. Organization is $119 with 72,000 and a three-seat minimum, all billed annually (Apollo pricing, September 2026). On monthly billing Professional is $99 per seat with 4,000 credits a month. The API is on every plan, including Free. An email costs 1 credit and a phone number 8. Unused credits expire each cycle.
For code, the limits are tight on general endpoints and looser on enrichment. Basic and Professional allow 200 requests a minute and 2,000 a day on general endpoints, per team and not per key. Paid enrichment endpoints allow 1,000 a minute (Apollo docs, September 2026). The MCP server works on any plan, including Free. Apollo also says its plans are for internal business use only.
Pros
- Database, sequences, dialer and CRM sync in one tool.
- MCP server on every plan, with OAuth sign-in.
- Enrichment allows 1,000 requests a minute on paid plans.
Cons
- Seats and credits both scale your bill, and credits expire each cycle.
- General endpoints are capped per team at 2,000 requests a day on Basic and Professional.
- Internal use only, so you cannot build a product on it.
Best for: sales reps who prospect and send from one workspace.
Pricing: Free. Basic $49, Professional $79, Organization $119 per seat a month, billed annually (Apollo pricing, September 2026).

Sources are linked in each tool section, all checked in September 2026. Vendors change plans often, so confirm on the pricing page before you buy. The 1M column is for email lookups. Apollo is 250 Professional seats on monthly billing ($99 each, 4,000 credits) or 400 Basic seats billed yearly ($49 each, 2,500 credits a month). PDL publishes no 1M price. LeadMagic's top public tier is Ultimate at 100,000 credits for $849 a month. Coresignal's figure is derived: 20 credits a lookup, 20M credits, at the Elite rate of $0.0005 a credit. For reference, Explorium is about $30,000 at $0.015 a credit and 2 credits per email.

- You need employees and job postings in bulk: Coresignal, with Bulk Collect at 10,000 records.
- You need fresh signals and company events: Crustdata, with a rate-limit conversation first.
- You buy valid emails by the hundred thousand: LeadMagic, at $0.0085 a credit on Ultimate.
- Your reps live in the tool: Apollo.
- You need Explorium's events and intent: keep Explorium for those calls and move the volume pulls to a flat-price API.
Verdict
LeadOcean wins for developers who pull data through an API, an agent or at volume. It has one flat price, one-call enrichment, a 100 requests per second limit and an MCP server that returns records. BlitzAPI is the flat-price runner-up if you run your own code. People Data Labs wins for an open person schema and licensed datasets, and Coresignal for bulk employee and job data. Crustdata wins for live signals, LeadMagic for cheap valid emails and Apollo for reps who want a sequencer. Stay on Explorium if you need its events and intent. Otherwise start on the free plan and compare the same lookups.
FAQ
Why do developers leave Explorium's API?
Cost and shape. Explorium bills prepaid credits that expire after 12 months, and a contact lookup is two calls (Explorium pricing, September 2026). The default limit is 200 queries a minute per key.
What is Explorium's API rate limit?
The default is 200 queries per minute per API key, in a 60-second sliding window. Each row in a bulk request counts as a query, so a batch of 50 uses 50 (Explorium docs, September 2026). At that pace 1M rows take about 3.5 days. More queries per minute is an Enterprise feature.
What does 1M records cost on Explorium?
Email only costs 2 credits, and phone or both costs 5 (Explorium docs, September 2026). At the Scale rate of $0.015 a credit, 1M email lookups are about $30,000 and 1M with phone about $75,000. Enterprise is a custom quote.
How does Explorium bulk export compare?
A sync call takes up to 50 IDs. Async jobs take up to 10,000 records from an uploaded ID dataset, with a 24-hour limit per job (Explorium docs, September 2026). LeadOcean's POST /v1/exports takes 50,000 rows per request.
Which alternative has an MCP server that returns data?
LeadOcean, Coresignal, Crustdata, LeadMagic and Apollo do. BlitzAPI's server reads documentation only, and we found no official PDL server. Explorium's AgentSource MCP needs an API key, while LeadOcean signs in with OAuth.
Do I need a credit card to try LeadOcean?
No. The free plan needs a work email and no card. It gives you 1,000 records, one-off, with the same API and MCP server as Pro. See pricing.
