The Best Email Verifiers Benchmark: 7 Tools, Cost and Speed at 1M Checks

Seven email verifiers compared on the numbers published today: list price for 1M checks, hours to run them at the stated limit, unknown-result charges and MCP support.

Get your free API key →Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.

An email verifier checks whether an address can receive mail before you send to it. Anyone who sends cold outreach, loads lists into a CRM or runs a sign-up form needs one, because every bounce costs sender reputation.

Most published benchmarks test accuracy on a few addresses and stop. The best-known one, run by Icypeas, scored 17 tools on a file of 100 addresses and ranked its own product first (Icypeas benchmark, September 2026). It says nothing about what 1M checks cost or how long they take. This page fills that gap with published prices and limits. We ran no accuracy test here, and we quote none of our own.

People leave a verifier for four reasons: price at volume, a low API rate limit, charges for "unknown" results, and no MCP server for an agent. Icypeas users can read our Icypeas alternative page, and Hunter users our Hunter alternative.

"1M records" means 1M email checks. LeadOcean's row is 1M records returned, not 1M checks. All figures are USD list prices from each vendor's page, not quotes.

What we evaluated

  • Cost at 1M: list price for 1M checks, monthly first and billed-yearly after it, with the one-off pack where one exists. We never multiply a small-pack rate out to 1M.
  • Hours to 1M: 1M divided by the vendor's stated request limit. This is arithmetic on published limits, not a speed test we ran.
  • Unknown results: whether you pay for an answer the verifier could not give.
  • MCP: whether an agent has a server to call, or only documentation.
  • Limits that bite: file sizes, batch caps, minimum purchases and credit expiry.

Accuracy is outside this benchmark. Where a vendor quotes an accuracy figure, we label it a vendor claim.

1. MillionVerifier: best for the lowest price per check

MillionVerifier does one job at the lowest list price here. One million checks cost $449 as a one-off pack, about $0.00045 a credit. There is no subscription, and packs never expire (MillionVerifier pricing, October 2026).

The single-check API allows 160 requests per second per account (MillionVerifier help, October 2026). That is about 1.7 hours for 1M checks. Bulk runs process about 3,000 emails a minute, so 1M takes about six hours. A file holds at most 1 million emails and 100MB, and two files run at once (MillionVerifier help, October 2026).

Read the catch-all terms. A risky or unknown credit is deducted, then added back as a promotional credit after the run. MillionVerifier can remove that add-back for accounts it flags, and publishes no threshold (MillionVerifier help, October 2026). It says 30% to 40% of catch-all addresses resolve to valid or invalid. That is a vendor figure, not our test (MillionVerifier, October 2026).

Pros

  • $449 for 1M checks, the lowest published price in this group.
  • 160 requests per second on the single API.
  • Packs never expire and there is no subscription to cancel.
  • Catch-all resolution is included in the one credit.

Cons

  • Unknown credits come back as goodwill, not by contract.
  • No monthly plan and no custom quantity. You pick a listed pack.
  • Bulk speed is about 3,000 a minute by default.
  • No MCP server in its docs. It verifies addresses and does not find them.

Best for: teams cleaning 100,000 to 25M addresses who want the lowest bill and can live with pack-based buying.

Pricing: Free 100 credits. 10K pack $39. 1M pack $449. 25M pack $4,999 (MillionVerifier pricing, October 2026). Full detail in MillionVerifier pricing.

2. Icypeas: best for cheap checks on a monthly plan

Icypeas verifies at 0.1 credit per check, so 1M checks need 100,000 credits (Icypeas docs, September 2026). That is the Hypergrowth plan at $499 a month, or $415.83 a month billed yearly (Icypeas pricing, September 2026). The plan is a subscription, so it suits steady monthly volume more than a single big clean.

Every plan includes the API, catch-all verification and an MCP server, and unused credits roll over with no expiry (Icypeas pricing, September 2026). The hosted server at https://mcp.icypeas.com/mcp lists 21 tools and signs in with your API key (Icypeas guide, September 2026).

The limit that bites is speed. Email verification allows 10 calls a second, and the docs warn limits can change at any time (Icypeas docs, September 2026). One million single calls take about 28 hours. The bulk endpoint takes up to 5,000 rows per call, but that limit is listed for bulk search. We found no separate bulk-verification limit, so check before you plan a large run.

Pros

  • $499 a month for 1M checks, the cheapest monthly route here.
  • MCP server on every plan, with credit roll-over.
  • Catch-all verification included.
  • Verifier credits share a pool with email finding.

Cons

  • 10 calls a second is about 28 hours for 1M single checks.
  • A subscription, so a one-off clean pays for a month.
  • No free plan: 50 credits on signup, which is 500 checks.

Best for: teams that verify a steady monthly volume and want an agent to call the verifier.

Pricing: Basic $19 a month for 1,000 credits ($15.83 billed yearly). Hypergrowth $499 for 100,000 credits (Icypeas pricing, September 2026). The 1M-check figure is our calculation from the published tier.

3. Clearout: best for verifying and finding in one account

Clearout sells the same credits at three prices. The 1M tier is $1,400 one-off, $1,260 a month on a monthly plan, or $800 a month billed yearly. Credits never expire, and unknown results and duplicates are free (Clearout pricing, October 2026). The page opens on the yearly view, which is the cheapest.

Its API limits are the lowest in the group at scale. They depend on credit tier: 190 requests a minute at the 1M one-off pack, and 300 a minute on Pro 1M (Clearout API docs, October 2026). That is about 88 hours for 1M instant checks on the one-off pack, or 56 hours at 300 a minute. Use bulk files for volume.

Other products share the credit pool. Deep Verify costs 5 credits when it gives a firm answer. A found email costs 4 credits (Clearout pricing guide, October 2026). No MCP server appears in its docs index (Clearout docs, October 2026). See Clearout pricing.

Pros

  • Cheaper than ZeroBounce and Bouncer at 1M on every billing route.
  • Unknowns and duplicates are free, and credits never expire.
  • Finder, reverse lookup and verification share one account.
  • Native integrations with Apollo, Lemlist, Mailchimp and others.

Cons

  • Monthly billing costs more than yearly: $1,260 against $800 a month at 1M.
  • 190 to 300 instant checks a minute is slow for real-time spikes.
  • Deep Verify is 5 credits per address, so a full deep run costs five times as much.

Best for: teams that verify and find emails in one account and can commit to yearly billing.

Pricing: Starter $23 a month ($16 billed yearly) for 3,000 credits. Pro 1M $1,260 a month ($800 billed yearly) (Clearout pricing, October 2026).

4. Bouncer: best for a batch API with free unknowns

Bouncer charges by the credit, from $8 for 1,000 to $2,000 for 1M. Credits never expire, and Bouncer does not charge for duplicates or unknown results (Bouncer pricing, October 2026). Above 1M you contact sales.

It offers three API modes. Real-time is capped at 1,000 requests per minute by default, with higher limits set up on request (Bouncer API docs, October 2026). At that default, 1M single checks take about 17 hours. Batch takes up to 100,000 emails, and you can create 60 batches a minute (Bouncer API docs, October 2026). Ten batches cover 1M.

Bouncer also sells a toxicity check that scores addresses on a 0 to 5 scale. Its docs index lists no MCP server (Bouncer docs index, October 2026).

Pros

  • No charge for unknown results or duplicates.
  • Credits never expire, and 100 free credits to start.
  • Batches of 100,000 emails by API.
  • Toxicity scoring on top of deliverability.

Cons

  • $2,000 for 1M is more than four times MillionVerifier's pack.
  • Real-time defaults to 1,000 requests a minute, low for sign-up spikes.
  • Batches run one after another, so a large batch can hold up small ones.

Best for: engineers who run large offline batches and want unknowns free.

Pricing: $8 per 1,000 credits, $400 for 100,000, $2,000 for 1M (Bouncer pricing, October 2026).

5. ZeroBounce: best for real-time API headroom

ZeroBounce has the highest stated API limit in the group. Its docs give 80,000 requests in 10 seconds, or 100,000 on the ONE subscription, with a one-minute block if you exceed it (ZeroBounce API docs, September 2026). On paper, that clears 1M checks in about two minutes. In practice the docs say to allow 45 to 60 minutes per 100,000 contacts in a file (ZeroBounce docs, September 2026), which is 7.5 to 10 hours for 1M.

Pricing has two routes. Pay as you go is $39 for 2,000 credits and $3,199 for 1M, one-off. ONE is a subscription from $99 a month for 10,000 credits plus inbox, blacklist and DMARC tools. At 1M it is $2,499 a month, or $1,999 billed yearly (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026).

An unknown result costs nothing, and so does a duplicate. Email Finder queries cost 20 credits each. No MCP server appears in the docs. See ZeroBounce pricing for every plan.

Pros

  • The highest stated real-time rate limit in this group.
  • Unknown results and duplicates are free.
  • Freemium gives 100 credits every month, not once.
  • ONE bundles inbox placement, blacklist monitoring and DMARC.

Cons

  • $3,199 for 1M is about seven times MillionVerifier.
  • Small packs cost more per credit: $0.0195 at 2,000 against $0.0032 at 1M.
  • ONE is a bundle you pay for whether you use the tools or not.

Best for: developers validating sign-ups in real time, and deliverability leads who want the tools on one bill.

Pricing: Freemium 100 credits a month. Pay as you go from $39 once. ONE from $99 a month ($79 billed yearly) (ZeroBounce pricing, October 2026).

6. Hunter: best for finding and verifying with an MCP server

Hunter finds emails first and verifies second. Plans are credit-based and shared across tools. Starter is $49 a month for 2,000 credits, or $34 billed yearly (Hunter pricing, September 2026). An Email Verifier check costs 0.5 credit, so Starter covers 4,000 checks (Hunter help center, September 2026).

For volume, the Data Platform sells Verification credits separately, one-off, valid 12 months, from $11 for 1,000 (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026). No public 1M price for Verification credits is listed, and we do not multiply the starting rate out to one.

The verifier endpoint allows 10 requests a second and 300 a minute (Hunter API docs, September 2026). The minute cap binds first, so 1M single calls take about 56 hours. Hunter has an official remote MCP server at https://mcp.hunter.io/mcp, included in every plan (Hunter MCP, September 2026).

Pros

  • Official MCP server on every plan, including Free.
  • Email Finder and Verifier in the same credit pool.
  • Verification is half a credit on all-in-one plans.
  • A Data Platform for API and bulk use, with 12-month credit validity.

Cons

  • 300 verifier calls a minute is slow for large lists.
  • No public 1M verification price.
  • Monthly plan credits reset each month and do not carry over.

Best for: teams that find emails by domain and want an agent to run both steps.

Pricing: Free 50 credits a month. Starter $49 a month ($34 billed yearly). Verification credits from $11 per 1,000 (Hunter pricing, September 2026).

7. LeadOcean: best for sourcing contacts with a status attached

LeadOcean is on this list for a different job. It does not verify addresses you upload, and no endpoint takes a list to clean. It is a people and company database: 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 67M companies. Each email comes back with an email_status from verified to spam_trap.

That fits one verifier buyer: the one who pays for data and then pays again to clean it. Agency is $497 a month flat, with 5 API keys and 200 requests a second per account. Paid plans have a fair-use pace, not credits, so there is no per-check price and no overage invoice. Rank it above the others only if you source contacts through an API or an agent.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.leadocean.io/v1/people/enrich" \
  -H "x-api-key: $LEADOCEAN_API_KEY" \
  -H "content-type: application/json" \
  -d '{"linkedin_url":"https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe","reveal_email":true}'

The MCP server at https://api.leadocean.io/mcp signs in with OAuth 2.1 and exposes 13 tools, from search_leads to export_leads (LeadOcean MCP docs, October 2026). The status is stored, not a live mail-server check, and the dataset refreshes monthly. Bounces get no refund or credit-back, so read email_status before you send.

Pros

  • Flat $497 a month on Agency, with no per-check cost.
  • email_status on every record, filterable at search time.
  • REST and MCP on every plan, including Free.
  • A miss on POST /v1/people/enrich is a free 404.

Cons

  • No bulk endpoint to verify a list you already own.
  • The status is stored, so it can age between monthly refreshes.
  • No refund for bounced emails.
  • The app has an Exports page with CSV download, and no sequencer, dialer or CRM.

Best for: engineers and agents that source contacts and need the address and its status in one call.

Pricing: Free is 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Solo is $97 a month. Agency is $497 a month (LeadOcean pricing, October 2026).

How to choose

  • You clean one big list and want the lowest bill: MillionVerifier. $449 for 1M, with no subscription.
  • You verify a steady volume every month and use an agent: Icypeas. $499 a month for 1M checks, with MCP on every plan.
  • You run batches by API and hate paying for unknowns: Bouncer. Unknowns and duplicates are free.
  • You validate sign-ups in real time: ZeroBounce, for the highest stated rate limit.
  • You want verifying and finding in one account: Clearout on yearly billing, or Hunter if an agent runs both steps.
  • You pull contacts in code or through an agent: LeadOcean. You get the address and its status in one call, at a flat $497 a month on Agency.
  • Your list is full of catch-all domains: read the best catch-all email verifiers first. For our own plans, see LeadOcean pricing.

Verdict

MillionVerifier wins on price for anyone cleaning a list they own, at $449 for 1M. Icypeas wins for steady monthly volume with an agent, at $499 a month. Bouncer wins for batch API users who want unknowns free, and ZeroBounce wins on real-time rate limit. Clearout wins when you also need a finder, provided you pay yearly. Hunter wins when an agent runs find and verify together. LeadOcean wins for anyone who buys data and verification separately today: it returns the address and its status together, but it will not clean a list you upload.

FAQ

What is the cheapest email verifier at 1M checks?

MillionVerifier, at $449 for a 1M-credit pack (MillionVerifier pricing, October 2026). Icypeas is next at $499 a month on the 100,000-credit plan, since a check costs 0.1 credit (Icypeas pricing, September 2026).

Which email verifier is the most accurate?

We ran no accuracy test for this page, so we do not name one. The Icypeas study scored 97% for itself on 100 addresses, a vendor-run test with a small sample (Icypeas benchmark, September 2026). Test two or three tools on a sample of your own list before you buy.

How long does it take to verify 1M emails?

It depends on the limit and the route. MillionVerifier bulk takes about six hours, and ZeroBounce files 7.5 to 10 hours by its own guidance. Single calls at Hunter's 300 a minute take about 56 hours.

Do these tools charge for unknown results?

Bouncer, ZeroBounce and Clearout do not charge for unknown results. MillionVerifier adds the credit back after the run, and can remove that add-back for flagged accounts. We did not check Icypeas's unknown-result policy, so confirm it before you buy.

Which verifiers have an MCP server?

Icypeas, Hunter and LeadOcean have one. We found none in the docs of MillionVerifier, Bouncer, ZeroBounce or Clearout. Check each vendor before you rely on that.

Can LeadOcean verify my existing email list?

No. LeadOcean returns people and companies with a stored email_status. It has no endpoint that verifies a list you upload, so keep a verifier for that job.

Stop paying twice for the same contacts. Start with 1,000 records and see email_status on every address.

Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.
