Revenue per segment is the money a business earns from each group of customers, such as an industry, a company size band or a region, so you can see which groups pay the most.

Understanding it means splitting your closed revenue by segment and reading the result. The same split works for products or locations. For outbound, the useful cut is by customer type.

Why it matters for outbound

Revenue per segment tells you where to point your prospecting. If mid-size software companies bring in four times the revenue of retailers, your next list should be mostly software companies.

Without the split, outbound spreads evenly across every segment that looks plausible. You spend records and send time on groups that rarely buy. With it, you size the best segment first and build the list there.

Example

A team sells payroll software. Last year's closed revenue, grouped by customer industry and size, looks like this. The figures are placeholders.

SegmentCustomersRevenueRevenue per customer
Software, 201-500 staff20$400,000$20,000
Retail, 201-500 staff25$250,000$10,000
Logistics, 51-200 staff30$150,000$5,000

Software earns the most in total and per customer. The team builds its next outbound list from software companies of that size and keeps the other two on a lighter touch.

Check both columns. A segment with high total revenue and low revenue per customer can be many small deals. One with a high per-customer figure and few customers may be too thin to build a list from.

In LeadOcean data

LeadOcean has no revenue-per-segment report. It does not know your closed deals. What it holds is the segment side: firmographics you can use to label your customers and find more like them.

  • Look up one customer with POST /v1/companies/enrich and read company_data.company_revenue_in_usd, plus industry and headcount. The MCP tool is get_company. A found company costs 1 record.
  • Find lookalike companies with POST /v1/companies/search. It takes minRevenue and maxRevenue in USD, plus industry, country and headcount filters. It costs 1 record per company returned.
  • The revenue filters return only companies whose revenue figure LeadOcean holds. A company with no figure on file is never returned, so filter on industry and headcount first and add revenue last.

count_leads does not accept the revenue filters, so a free size check on a revenue range is not available. Free plan: 1,000 records, one-off, no card. Pro is $499 a month. See pricing.
