BetterContact is the better buy if you work in code on a list you already own. Clearbit (Breeze Intelligence) is the better buy if your records already live in HubSpot. They solve different problems. BetterContact asks 20+ data providers for an email or a mobile number. Clearbit fills blank properties on a HubSpot record.
Figures were checked in September and October 2026, each with its source link. Where a vendor publishes nothing, the page says so.
Verdict
- Pick Clearbit (Breeze Intelligence) if your contacts and companies sit in HubSpot and you want firmographic fields filled in with no code. Enrichment does not use HubSpot Credits (HubSpot docs, September 2026).
- Pick BetterContact if you have names and company domains and want work emails and mobiles through a documented API. It is cheap at small volume, from $15 a month (BetterContact pricing, September 2026).
- Pick neither if you want to search a database, pull records at volume and keep one flat bill. LeadOcean covers that, but it has no CRM and no waterfall.

Data and coverage
Neither vendor publishes a database size, so you cannot compare the two on a count. Clearbit's homepage claims global coverage in every country and language (Clearbit, September 2026). BetterContact says it cascades through 20+ providers (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). Both are claims, not numbers.
The data does a different job in each tool. HubSpot says enrichment draws on its commercial dataset, third-party providers and public web sources (HubSpot docs, September 2026). It starts from a business email or a company domain and fills blank properties. It does not search for new people.
Contact coverage is where they split. HubSpot's list of enrichable contact properties has job title, role, seniority, location and LinkedIn URL. It has no email or phone field (HubSpot docs, September 2026). Company records can take a phone number, revenue range, technologies and total money raised. If you need an email address or a mobile, Clearbit is not the tool.
BetterContact is built for that exact job. It takes a first name, last name and a company or domain, then returns a verified work email and, on request, a mobile number (BetterContact docs, September 2026). A mobile needs a LinkedIn URL as well. Credits are charged only on valid results.
Clearbit has richer company standardisation. Its homepage lists 6-digit NAICS, GICS and SIC codes, parent and subsidiary mapping, and normalised role and seniority (Clearbit, September 2026). BetterContact has a Lead Finder that searches by people and company criteria, but it returns at most 200 leads per request (BetterContact docs, September 2026). Neither is a database you query at scale.
API and developer experience
BetterContact has a public API you can read before you pay. Clearbit's API documentation redirects to a sign-in page (Clearbit docs, September 2026). New sign-ups have needed a HubSpot account since December 2023 (Clearbit release notes, September 2026).
This is the BetterContact request from its docs, with a placeholder lead. It submits one lead for work email enrichment. A batch takes up to 100.
curl --request POST \
--url "https://app.bettercontact.rocks/api/v2/async" \
--header "X-API-Key: $BETTERCONTACT_API_KEY" \
--header "Content-Type: application/json" \
--data '{
"data": [{
"first_name": "Jane",
"last_name": "Doe",
"company_domain": "acme.com"
}],
"enrich_email_address": true,
"webhook": "https://example.com/bettercontact/results"
}'A 201 means the batch was accepted, not enriched. You keep the returned id and either wait for the webhook or poll GET /async/{request_id}. The docs warn that submissions are not idempotent, so retrying a successful POST spends credits twice (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
Clearbit has no public request to show, because its docs sit behind a sign-in. Most HubSpot users never call it. A Super Admin switches on data enrichment in settings, and new records fill themselves (HubSpot docs, September 2026). Automatic enrichment is off by default.
Clearbit publishes no rate limit, so there is nothing to compare. BetterContact counts per minute across all endpoints. On Pro, 200 requests a minute at 100 leads a call is 20,000 leads a minute. Over the limit it returns 429 with the body Retry later (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
For agents, neither helps much. We found no MCP server in BetterContact's docs index. HubSpot's remote MCP server reads CRM records such as contacts and deals, and we found none for data enrichment (HubSpot MCP docs, October 2026).
Pricing
BetterContact charges per valid result and Clearbit charges nothing of its own. The cost of Clearbit is the HubSpot plan you need to run it. Prices below use the monthly list first, with the billed-yearly figure after it.
BetterContact credits: 1 for a work email, 10 for a mobile, nothing for a miss. Pro steps run from 1,000 credits at $49 to 50,000 credits at $1,999 a month. Billed yearly is two months free, so you pay 10 months and keep 12 (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). Yearly figures here are derived from that rule.
At 10,000 records a month. Take 10,000 work emails at one credit each. That is 10,000 credits, the $399 Pro step. Billed yearly it is $399 x 10 / 12 = $332.50 a month ($3,990 a year).
Clearbit at 10,000 is the cheapest line on this page, if HubSpot allows the volume. Enrichment uses no HubSpot Credits, and one Starter seat is $10 a month, or $7 a month billed yearly, on a new-customer offer. That is $10 x 1 = $10, or $7 x 12 = $84 a year (HubSpot Starter, October 2026). The catch is that it fills firmographic fields. It does not return emails.
At 1M records a month. BetterContact has no public 1M price. 1M work emails need 1,000,000 credits. The top public step covers 50,000, which is 5% of that volume. Enterprise is listed from $799 a month on a custom quote (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). A million lookups in one month needs a quote, so ask sales.
Clearbit has no public 1M price either. HubSpot publishes no per-record rate and no monthly volume ceiling (HubSpot docs, September 2026). An index page enrolls 100 records at a time, so 1,000,000 / 100 = 10,000 batches. A 1M job means a workflow, a segment or an import. Ask HubSpot sales for the ceiling first.
What you can price is the plan. Marketing Hub Professional includes 3 core seats, and extra seats cost more (HubSpot pricing, October 2026). The page showed local currency to our fetch, so check the USD price there. Other HubSpot features do bill in credits. The data agent uses 10 credits per prompt per record, and credits list at $0.010 each (HubSpot catalog, September 2026). Plain enrichment does not use them.
Phones change the sums on BetterContact. A mobile is 10 credits, so 5,000 mobiles use 50,000 credits, the whole top step at $1,999. The API docs also say phone enrichment needs a phone add-on, or the call returns 402, and no add-on price is published, so ask BetterContact sales. Catch-all emails are charged unless catch-all verification is on (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
Where Clearbit (Breeze Intelligence) wins
- Enrichment inside HubSpot. Records fill where the team already works, with no code. Automatic enrichment is off by default, then on for new records (HubSpot docs, September 2026).
- Standardised company data. NAICS, GICS and SIC codes and corporate hierarchy are on its homepage (Clearbit, September 2026).
- No per-record meter. If HubSpot is already paid for, enrichment adds nothing per record and uses no credits.
- Forms and visitors. It shortens forms that fill in from an email address, and it turns anonymous web traffic into intent signals (Clearbit, September 2026).
Its weak points are the HubSpot requirement, the sign-in wall on its docs and no published count or rate limit. Free Clearbit products have also closed. The free platform ended on April 30, 2025, and the Logo API followed after December 8, 2025 (Clearbit release notes, September 2026).
Where BetterContact wins
- Emails and mobiles. It returns both for a named person. Clearbit's contact properties include neither.
- Find rate on a list you own. A waterfall asks the next provider when one misses, and you pay only for valid results (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
- Public docs and price. You can read the plans and the API before signing up. Unused credits roll over, capped at twice the plan.
- No-code reach. It lists 28 native integrations on its homepage, which includes HubSpot (BetterContact, September 2026).
Its weak points are a per-minute rate limit, an asynchronous flow and no MCP server. It needs a name and a domain per lead. Search is limited to 200 leads a request.
If you need volume through an API
LeadOcean is a third option if neither fits. Free gives you 1,000 records, one-off, with no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat, with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups and no credits or per-record price (LeadOcean pricing, September 2026).
It holds 693M people, 366M with an email and 166M with a phone number, plus 63M companies. The same REST API and a hosted MCP server with 12 tools run on every plan (LeadOcean MCP docs, September 2026). The limit is 100 requests per second per key.
For bulk pulls, POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request, and the app has an Exports page with a CSV download (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). LeadOcean has no CRM and no waterfall across other providers. A HubSpot team keeps Clearbit for in-CRM records. See pricing.
FAQ
Is Clearbit (Breeze Intelligence) cheaper than BetterContact?
It can be, if you already pay for HubSpot. Enrichment does not use HubSpot Credits, and a Starter seat is $10 a month, or $7 billed yearly, on a new-customer offer. BetterContact starts at $15 a month for 200 credits. They return different data, so compare what each gives you, not the sticker.
Does Clearbit (Breeze Intelligence) return emails and phone numbers?
Not for contacts, going by HubSpot's published list. Enrichable contact properties include name, job title, role, seniority, location and LinkedIn URL, with no email or phone field. Company records can take a phone number (HubSpot docs, September 2026).
Do Clearbit or BetterContact have an MCP server?
We found neither for data enrichment. HubSpot has a remote MCP server for CRM records (HubSpot MCP docs, October 2026). BetterContact's docs index lists none (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
Can I use Clearbit without HubSpot?
Not as a new customer. New sign-ups have needed a HubSpot account since December 2023. Customers who signed up before December 4, 2023 kept their access (Clearbit release notes, September 2026).
What does BetterContact cost at 1M records?
There is no public price. The top public step is 50,000 credits for $1,999 a month, and Enterprise is a custom quote from $799 a month (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). Ask sales for a figure at your mix of emails and mobiles.
Can I use both?
Yes. Use HubSpot enrichment for firmographics on records already in your CRM. Send names and domains to BetterContact when you need work emails or mobiles. See also Prospeo vs BetterContact, LeadMagic vs BetterContact, Hunter vs BetterContact and the Clearbit alternative. Back to the blog.
