The cheapest Hunter plan is Free at $0, with 50 credits a month. The cheapest paid plan is Starter at $34 a month billed yearly, or $49 billed monthly. Growth at $104 a month billed yearly is the middle tier (Hunter pricing, September 2026).

One credit buys one email found. A million emails is 1,000,000 credits, far above the 25,000 a month Scale includes. Hunter sells exactly that on its Data Platform: 1,000,000 Search credits for $6,900, bought once and valid 12 months (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

Hunter is an email finder first and an outreach tool second. Plans bundle sequences, connected inboxes and signals with the credits. If you only want the data, you pay for the bundle anyway.

Plans

Hunter sells five plans: Free, Starter, Growth, Scale and Enterprise. Users are unlimited on every plan, and all members share one credit pool. API and MCP access are listed on every plan, including Free.

Source: Hunter pricing, checked September 2026. Paying yearly takes 30% off the monthly price. Hunter also lists a 30% non-profit discount on monthly plans with 501(c) proof.

Rate limits sit in the API docs, not on the pricing page. Email Finder, Domain Search and the enrichment endpoints allow 15 requests a second and 500 a minute. Email Verifier allows 10 a second and 300 a minute (Hunter API docs, September 2026).

What a credit buys

A credit is charged for a found email, not for a request. A lookup that finds nothing costs nothing. Repeat searches and verifications count once per billing period (Hunter pricing FAQ, September 2026).

Hidden costs

The sticker price is per plan. The real bill depends on what you find, how you pay and what you do not use.

  • Credits are monthly on monthly plans. Unused credits do not roll over on monthly plans. Yearly and Data Platform credits stay valid 12 months, and a paid plan change rolls leftovers into a pack valid 3 or 12 months (Hunter help center, September 2026).
  • Extra packs are for paid plans only. Credit packs cost $10, $70 and $400 for 100, 1,000 and 10,000 credits on Starter, $7.50, $52.50 and $300 on Growth, and $5, $35 and $200 on Scale. They are valid 3 months and are not sold on Free, Data Platform or Enterprise (Hunter help center, September 2026).
  • Monthly billing costs more. Starter is $49 billed monthly against $34 billed yearly. That is 44% more for the same 2,000 credits.
  • The ceiling is 25,000 credits. Scale is the top self-serve plan. Anything bigger goes through Enterprise or the Data Platform.
  • One shared pool. Unlimited users sounds generous. Everyone draws on the same credits, so a team of ten finds no more than one person.
  • Verifying costs extra. Re-checking a list you already hold is 0.5 credit per email. Finding and then verifying a million addresses is 1.5 credits each.
  • You pay for outreach you may not use. Sequences, connected inboxes and signals sit in every plan price.
  • Rate limits cap the pace. At 500 requests a minute, one million single lookups take about 33 hours.
  • The Data Platform is API and bulk only. Search credits and Verification credits are sold separately, as a one-off purchase valid 12 months. Search credits run from $50 for 1,000 to $6,900 for 1,000,000, and verification credits start at $11 for 1,000 (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

Worked examples

All three examples assume one email per record, every record found, at 1 credit each. For 10k records the rate comes from the all-in-one plans. For 1M and 25M it comes from the Data Platform, which sells Search credits as a one-off purchase valid 12 months. These are list-price numbers, not quotes.

10k records a month

  • Credits needed: 10,000.
  • Growth, billed yearly: 10,000 credits fit exactly, so $104 a month.
  • Growth, billed monthly: $149 a month.
  • If you also verify each address: 10,000 + 5,000 = 15,000 credits, so Scale at $209 or $299.
  • LeadOcean Pro: $499 flat. At this volume Hunter is cheaper.

1M records a month

  • Credits needed: 1,000,000.
  • Data Platform: 1,000,000 Search credits cost $6,900, bought once and valid 12 months. That is $0.0069 a credit. Bought each month, it is $6,900 a month.
  • The all-in-one plans cannot cover it. Scale includes 25,000 credits a month.
  • Best case with Bulk Domain Search: if every domain returns 10 emails, that is 100,000 credits, which is $950 on the Data Platform. Real domains rarely return 10.
  • The Data Platform ladder falls from $0.0153 a credit at 25,000 ($382.50) to $0.0095 at 100,000 ($950) and $0.0069 at 1,000,000. Above 1,000,000 the price is custom (Hunter Data Platform pricing, September 2026).
  • LeadOcean Pro: $499 flat.

25M records a month

  • Credits needed: 25,000,000.
  • The Data Platform ladder stops at 1,000,000 credits. Above that, Hunter sets the price, so there is no public 25M price.
  • Rate limit: 25,000,000 lookups at 500 a minute is 50,000 minutes, about 35 days. Single-call endpoints cannot do this in a month.
  • LeadOcean Pro: $499 flat. A very large month is paced down to one request a minute past the fair-usage line rather than cut off. One email to support gets more headroom.

Break-even against $499 is just above 50,000 Search credits a month on the Data Platform, where 50,000 credits cost $475. Below that, Hunter is cheaper. Above it, the gap widens with every email.

Is it worth it

Hunter is worth it if one person finds and sends from the same tool. The price buys a finder and a sequencer, not a dataset.

  • Solo founder or freelancer: Free is fine for testing at 50 credits. Starter at $34 covers 2,000 emails and three inboxes. Stop there until credits run out.
  • Sales team of 3 to 10: Growth or Scale. The shared pool, sequences and signals justify the price if reps send from Hunter.
  • Email hygiene on a list you already own: Verifier at 0.5 credit is cheap. Compare it with ZeroBounce pricing first.
  • RevOps or data engineer feeding a pipeline: Credits are monthly, rate limits are per endpoint and Hunter starts from a domain. A flat fee is easier to forecast.
  • Large volume: Above 25,000 credits a month, buy Search credits on the Data Platform or ask for Enterprise. The Data Platform ladder is public up to 1,000,000 credits.

Alternatives with a different price model

These three charge by found record or by flat fee, not by monthly credit plan.

FullEnrich: pay per found contact. The Pro plan is $55 a month for 1,000 credits, which is $0.055 a credit, with unlimited users and rollover (FullEnrich pricing, September 2026). A work email is 1 credit and a mobile number is 10. Volume brackets lower the per-credit price. See FullEnrich alternatives and /alternatives/fullenrich.

People Data Labs: pay per record retrieved. Free gives up to 100 credits a month with contact data obfuscated. Pro starts at $98 a month for 350 credits, with volume pricing above that and custom Enterprise terms (People Data Labs pricing, September 2026). It is an API product with no outreach tool. See People Data Labs alternatives and /alternatives/people-data-labs.

LeadOcean: flat fee. Free is 1,000 records one-off with no card. Pro is $499 a month with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups, 100 requests per second per key and 5 API keys. There are no seats, no credits and no overage invoice. It covers 693M people and 63M companies over REST and MCP. It has no sequencer, dialer or CRM, so pair it with your own sending tool.
