Comparison

ZoomInfo vs Hunter.io (2026): Data, Pricing and API Compared

ZoomInfo is a GTM suite with a pay-as-you-go data API. Hunter is an email finder with an API, priced per credit. Here is how they compare at 1M records.

Get your free API key →Free to start. No credit card. 1,000 records to spend whenever you like.

ZoomInfo is the bigger database and a full sales suite, so it wins for teams that want signals and phone data. Hunter is the cheaper way to find work emails by API. At 1M records, Hunter publishes a price ($6,900) and ZoomInfo does not.

Verdict

  • Pick ZoomInfo if you want direct dials, intent signals and one suite, or a free-to-start API with an official MCP server and free search (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026).
  • Pick Hunter if you mainly need verified work emails by domain or name, by API or in bulk, with a price per credit you can read (Hunter pricing, September 2026).
  • Pick neither if you pull people and company data by API at volume and want one flat monthly bill. LeadOcean is one option, covered below.

Data and coverage

ZoomInfo is a far larger and wider dataset. It claims 100M+ companies and 500M+ contacts in its API and MCP docs, and its Sales page quotes 420M+ contacts and 145M+ companies. The two pages do not match, so treat both as vendor claims.

Hunter is an email index, not a contact database. Its homepage shows 150,430,313 email addresses verified. It does not publish a count of people, companies or phone numbers.

That difference decides most purchases. ZoomInfo starts from a person or an account and returns titles, company facts, emails and phones. Hunter starts from a domain or a name and returns an address with a confidence score.

On phones, ZoomInfo is the clear choice. Its Sales page claims 120M+ direct dials, and it gives no accuracy rate for them (ZoomInfo Sales, September 2026). Hunter can return a phone_number, but the field is null in its own docs examples and it publishes no phone count.

On filtering, ZoomInfo says you can filter on 300+ attributes (ZoomInfo Sales, September 2026). Hunter's core calls start from a domain or a name. For a list built by title and seniority across a market, ZoomInfo is the better tool.

API and developer experience

Both tools have a REST API and an official MCP server. ZoomInfo uses OAuth 2.0 client credentials, so a call starts with a token request. Hunter takes an API key in a header and answers a plain GET. Placeholders below stand in for real people.

ZoomInfo: get a token, then enrich a contact.

bash
curl -X POST "https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/oauth/v1/token" \
  -u "$ZI_CLIENT_ID:$ZI_CLIENT_SECRET" \
  -d "grant_type=client_credentials"

curl -X POST "https://api.zoominfo.com/gtm/data/v1/contacts/enrich" \
  -H "authorization: Bearer $ZI_TOKEN" \
  -H "content-type: application/vnd.api+json" \
  -d '{"data":{"type":"ContactEnrich","attributes":{"matchPersonInput":[{"personId":123456789}],"outputFields":["id","firstName","jobTitle","email"],"requiredFields":["email"]}}}'

ZoomInfo recommends a two-step flow. Search and lookup are free and return IDs. Enrich then takes up to 25 records, and each record found costs one credit unless it is already under management. A "No match" is not charged (ZoomInfo docs, September 2026).

Hunter: find an email by name and domain.

bash
curl -G "https://api.hunter.io/v2/email-finder" \
  -H "X-API-KEY: $HUNTER_API_KEY" \
  --data-urlencode "domain=acme.com" \
  --data-urlencode "first_name=Jane" \
  --data-urlencode "last_name=Doe"

A miss costs no credit (Hunter help, September 2026). One quirk to plan for: Hunter returns 403 when you hit the rate limit and 429 when you run out of credits or plan quota (Hunter API docs, September 2026). ZoomInfo returns 429 with a Retry-After header for rate limits.

Hunter is faster to start. You paste a key and send one request. ZoomInfo needs an app, a client ID and secret, and a token, but it returns richer records once you are in.

On throughput, Hunter's 15 requests a second beats ZoomInfo's 5 on the Builder package. ZoomInfo's 25 and 35 a second on Standard and Scaling are higher, and the account team can raise limits on request (ZoomInfo rate limits, September 2026).

Pricing

ZoomInfo sells two ways, and Hunter sells two ways. The worked examples below use the lowest published list price for each at the volume shown.

ZoomInfo's self-serve route is GTM AI data credits. List price falls with purchase size. It is $0.45 for 100 credits, $0.41 at 1,000 and $0.38 at 2,500 to 10,000. Then $0.32 at 15,000 to 20,000, $0.29 at 30,000 to 50,000 and $0.25 at 100,000 credits ($25,000). The slider stops there, and larger volumes go to Enterprise (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026). This page quotes no platform plan price, because zoominfo.com/pricing returned a human check.

Hunter sells all-in-one plans, billed monthly or yearly. Monthly: Starter $49 for 2,000 credits, Growth $149 for 10,000 and Scale $299 for 25,000. Billed yearly, those are $34, $104 and $209 a month (Hunter pricing, September 2026). The separate Data Platform sells Search credits in one-off packs, valid 12 months (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

At 10,000 records a month

  • ZoomInfo: 10,000 data credits x $0.38 = $3,800 at list. A record is charged once per 12 months, so repeat lookups of the same contact cost nothing extra (ZoomInfo docs, September 2026).
  • Hunter: Growth includes 10,000 credits for $149 a month, or $104 a month billed yearly. On the Data Platform, 10,000 Search credits are a one-off $209.

At this size Hunter costs a small fraction of ZoomInfo. A work email is 1 credit on Hunter and a contact is 1 credit on ZoomInfo, so the unit is comparable. What you get per unit is not: ZoomInfo returns the fuller record.

At 1M records a month

  • ZoomInfo: no public 1M price. The slider tops out at 100,000 credits for $25,000. Ten of those would be $250,000, but that assumes the $0.25 rate holds and is not a quote. Do not multiply $0.38 by 1,000,000, because $0.38 is the $1,000 tier only (ZoomInfo pricing, September 2026).
  • Hunter: 1,000,000 Search credits cost $6,900, paid once and valid 12 months ($0.0069 a credit) (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

The all-in-one route is dearer on Hunter. Scale is $299 a month for 25,000 credits, and packs cap at 180,000 per purchase (Hunter help, September 2026). At 1M, use the Data Platform.

Two caveats. Hunter's Data Platform ladder is not smooth: 5,000 credits is $250 and 10,000 is $209, as read from its live calculator. And Hunter's 1M figure buys emails only. Separate verification credits start at $11 per 1,000.

Where ZoomInfo wins

  • A much larger dataset, with companies, contacts and buying signals in one place.
  • Direct dials: a claimed 120M+, against no published phone count at Hunter.
  • Free search and lookup on the API, so you pay only to enrich a record you chose.
  • Higher rate limits on paid packages: 25 and 35 requests a second.
  • One suite for teams that want a sales workspace, not just data.

Where Hunter wins

  • A far lower published price: $6,900 for 1M credits, and a full price ladder anyone can read.
  • Simple credits, no seats, no contract, and no charge when nothing is found.
  • A faster start: one key, one GET, and an answer in the same call.
  • Bulk Email Finder takes up to 50,000 rows per file.
  • Limits documented per endpoint, so you can size capacity without a plan table.

If you need volume through an API

LeadOcean is a data API and MCP server with no credits and no seats. It is not a sales suite, and it has no intent data. Pro costs $499 a month flat, with unlimited searches, enrichments and lookups. The Free plan gives 1,000 records one-off with no card, and both plans get the same REST API and 12-tool MCP server. POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). Compare it on a list you already know, then read ZoomInfo alternatives and pricing.

FAQ

Is ZoomInfo or Hunter.io better for finding emails?

Hunter is simpler if you start from a domain or a name and want an address by API. ZoomInfo is better if you start from an audience, such as VPs of Marketing at software firms, and then need the contact. Both charge one credit per record found.

Which is cheaper, ZoomInfo or Hunter.io?

Hunter, on every published price. At 10,000 records, ZoomInfo's list rate comes to $3,800 against $149 a month for Hunter Growth. At 1M, Hunter's Data Platform is $6,900 once, and ZoomInfo has no public price (Hunter Data Platform, September 2026).

Do both have an API and an MCP server?
