Findymail finds one verified email at a time and bills a credit when it succeeds. BetterContact asks 20+ providers in turn and bills credits only for valid results. Both charge per result, so neither gets cheaper in a way you can plan around at 1M records.
Every fact below was checked in September 2026 and carries its source link. Where a vendor showed nothing we could read, the page says so.
Verdict
- Pick Findymail if you want an MCP server your agent can sign in to, lead lists from a plain-language query, and signals next to the email finder. Its pricing page blocks automated reading, so we quote no Findymail plan price.
- Pick BetterContact if you hold a list with names and company domains and want a waterfall across 20+ providers, with prices you can read. Starter is $15 a month and Pro starts at $49 (BetterContact pricing, September 2026).
- Pick neither if you start from an audience, not a list of names. You need filters, an MCP server that returns records, or a fixed bill at 1M records. See the LeadOcean section below.

Data and coverage
Neither tool sells a database you browse by title or industry. Both take a person and find an address, so coverage is a find rate on your list. Neither publishes a find rate we could verify.
BetterContact is a waterfall. It sends each lead to one provider, then the next if that one misses, and charges only for a valid result. Its pricing page cites 20+ data providers and an email check by Bouncer (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). It takes a first name, last name and a company or domain, and wants a LinkedIn URL for phones (create docs). The docs index also lists Lead Finder and Company Finder endpoints (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
Findymail runs its own finder and returns an address only if it verifies. It publishes no database size (Findymail API docs, September 2026). It reaches further than BetterContact in four places:
- Lead search: Intellimatch takes a query such as "SaaS companies in US" and exports up to 5,000 companies per search.
- Employees: one call returns up to 5 people at a company by job title, 1 credit each, with no email.
- Signals: the docs list a signals endpoint, filterable by type such as keyword mentions.
- Reverse lookup: an email in, a LinkedIn profile out, for 1 or 2 credits.
Phones are close to a tie, with different gaps. Findymail costs 10 credits a number and returns nothing for EU citizens. BetterContact also costs 10 credits a mobile, but publishes no country split and needs an add-on over the API (BetterContact docs, September 2026). Run a sample of your own regions through each before you commit.
API and developer experience
Both are small REST APIs. Findymail answers an email lookup in the same call. BetterContact takes a batch and answers later, so you need a webhook or a polling loop. Placeholders below stand in for real people.
Findymail, from its API docs, checked September 2026:
curl --request POST "https://app.findymail.com/api/search/name" \
--header "Authorization: Bearer $FINDYMAIL_API_KEY" \
--header "Content-Type: application/json" \
--data '{"name": "Jane Doe", "domain": "acme.com"}'It returns a contact object with the email, and a miss costs nothing. Add webhook_url and the work runs in the background and posts the result to you.
BetterContact, from its create docs, checked September 2026. A batch takes up to 100 leads:
curl --request POST "https://app.bettercontact.rocks/api/v2/async" \
--header "X-API-Key: $BETTERCONTACT_API_KEY" \
--header "Content-Type: application/json" \
--data '{
"data": [{"first_name": "Jane", "last_name": "Doe", "company_domain": "acme.com"}],
"enrich_email_address": true,
"webhook": "https://example.com/bettercontact/results"
}'A 201 means the batch was accepted, not enriched. Keep the returned id, then wait for the webhook or poll GET /async/{request_id}. The docs warn that submissions are not idempotent, so a retried successful POST spends credits twice.
Auth trips people up. BetterContact rejects Authorization: Bearer with a 401 and wants X-API-Key. Findymail is the reverse (BetterContact docs, September 2026).
Rate limits use different units. Findymail allows 300 simultaneous requests and publishes no per-minute cap, so throughput depends on response time. Two real-time search endpoints are lower, at 5 and 30 concurrent. BetterContact counts per minute across all endpoints: on Pro, 200 requests at 100 leads a call is 20,000 leads a minute, or 50 minutes of submitting for 1M leads. Over the limit it returns 429 with the body Retry later (rate limits, September 2026).
On MCP, Findymail has an official server with 14 tools and signs in through the browser in Cursor (Findymail Cursor plugin, September 2026). We found no MCP server in BetterContact's docs index.
Pricing
BetterContact is the one you can price from a public page. Both bill 1 credit for an email and 10 for a phone, and neither charges for a miss. The examples below assume every lookup finds an email, so a lower find rate lowers both bills.
At 10,000 emails a month
- BetterContact Pro, 10,000-credit step: $399 a month. Billed yearly it is about $332.50 a month ($3,990 a year), from its pay-10-months-keep-12 rule (BetterContact pricing, September 2026). Cost per email: $399 / 10,000 = $0.0399.
- Findymail: 10,000 finder credits. Its pricing page blocks automated reading, so we quote no dollar figure. Find the step that covers 10,000 on Findymail's pricing page.
At 1M emails a month
- BetterContact: 1,000,000 credits. No public 1M price. The top public step covers 50,000 credits for $1,999 a month, which is 5% of the volume. Enterprise is listed from $799 a month on a custom quote (BetterContact pricing, September 2026).
- Findymail: 1,000,000 finder credits. No public 1M price. Ask for a quote.
At 1M both come down to a sales call, so we show no dollar figure for either.
Phones make the sums bigger. At 10 credits each, 5,000 BetterContact mobiles use 50,000 credits, the whole top step at $1,999. Over the API a mobile also needs the phone add-on, or the call returns 402. BetterContact publishes no price for that add-on, so ask its sales team (BetterContact API docs, September 2026).
BetterContact credits roll over, capped at twice the plan, and annual plans roll over for 12 months. Catch-all emails are charged unless you turn on catch-all verification (BetterContact docs, September 2026). Findymail's rollover terms are on its pricing page, which we could not read.
Where Findymail wins
- An agent can use it today. 14 MCP tools, with browser sign-in and no key to paste.
- Search, not just lookup. Intellimatch builds a company and contact list from a sentence. BetterContact enriches leads you bring.
- Signals. Job changes and keyword mentions arrive through the same account.
- Synchronous answers. One call, one email. No batch ids, no polling loop, no double-spend on a retry.
Where BetterContact wins
- More tries on a list you own. A waterfall asks the next provider when one misses, and you pay only for valid results.
- Prices you can read. Seven Pro steps and Starter are public, so you can budget before you sign up.
- Small volume. Starter is $15 a month, and Pro starts at $49 for 1,000 credits.
- No-code reach. It lists 28 native integrations and takes batches of 100 (BetterContact pricing, September 2026).
If you need volume through an API
Neither tool is built to pull a million records from a filterable database. LeadOcean holds 693M people and 63M companies behind REST and a 12-tool MCP server that returns records. Pro is $499 a month flat with no credits and no per-record price. Free gives 1,000 records one-off with no card. POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). It is not a name-and-domain lookup, since you search by domain first and then enrich by person_id. See pricing.
FAQ
Is Findymail or BetterContact better for finding emails?
For a list of names you already own, BetterContact asks 20+ providers in turn, so a miss at one gets a second try. Findymail is better when you also want lead search, signals or an MCP server. We did not test either find rate.
Which is cheaper, Findymail or BetterContact?
At 10,000 emails a month BetterContact Pro is $399, or about $332.50 billed yearly. We could not read Findymail's plan prices behind a bot check. At 1M neither publishes a price.
Do Findymail and BetterContact have an API and an MCP server?
Both have a REST API. Findymail also has an official MCP server with 14 tools. We found none in BetterContact's docs index.
Do they charge for emails they cannot find?
No. Findymail charges a finder credit only when a verified email is found. BetterContact charges only for valid results, though catch-all emails are charged unless you add catch-all verification.
Can I use both?
Yes. Run named leads through BetterContact first. Send the misses to Findymail's POST /api/verify or its name search as a second opinion, and load only verified addresses into your sequencer. Each tool bills only for what it returns, so a miss costs nothing on either side.
Is there a cheaper way to get 1M records?
If you can start from filters, yes. LeadOcean Pro is $499 a month flat, and counts are free. Read Findymail alternatives and the Findymail alternative page.
