RocketReach is a people-search app with an API behind it. LeadMagic is an enrichment API that bills per valid result. Neither publishes a price at 1M records a month. Pick RocketReach for hand lookups by a rep, and LeadMagic for pipelines in code, Clay or an agent.
Verdict
- Pick RocketReach if one person or a small team looks up contacts by hand and wants a big searchable index, a Chrome extension and a low entry price. Plans list at $69 to $209 a month on monthly billing, as G2 reports them (G2, September 2026).
- Pick LeadMagic if enrichment runs through your own code, Clay or an agent, and you want to pay only for valid results. Email Finder costs 1 credit per valid email and nothing on a miss (LeadMagic docs, September 2026).
- Pick neither if the job is people and company records at volume through an API at a fixed bill. Both meter, one by the seat and credit, the other by the credit. LeadOcean is one option, covered below.

Data and coverage
RocketReach states the larger index: 700M+ professionals against 400M+ profiles for LeadMagic. Both are vendor claims, and neither publishes a count of records with an email or a phone. Do not rank them on those two numbers alone.
The tools find data in different ways. RocketReach is a searchable index. You search by title, employer and location, then spend a lookup to reveal contact details. RocketReach says 87% of lookups return a profile, and LinkedIn URLs return data 99% of the time (RocketReach FAQ, September 2026).
LeadMagic starts from a person and a company. You send a name plus a domain, or a profile URL, and it returns an email only if it validates. It runs each request at lookup time and bills per result (LeadMagic, September 2026).
Email quality is graded differently. RocketReach grades each email A, A-, B or F and charges only for A and A-. Its FAQ puts A at about 98% deliverable (RocketReach FAQ, September 2026). LeadMagic validates inside the find call and sells standalone validation at 0.25 credits, with catch-all resolution built in (LeadMagic pricing explained, September 2026).
Each adds data the other lacks. RocketReach has healthcare enrichment with NPI numbers and a standalone email verify endpoint. LeadMagic has 46M+ job posts, company enrichment and a personal email finder.
Phones are the clearest cost split. RocketReach charges 6 credits per profile with a phone, and LeadMagic charges 5 per valid mobile. Neither publishes a phone count. Run 500 contacts you know are good through both, then count emails found, bounces and phones.
API and developer experience
Both have a REST API with a key in a header. RocketReach looks up a person by an identifier, such as a LinkedIn URL, with a GET. LeadMagic finds an email from a name and a domain with a POST. Placeholders below stand in for real people.
RocketReach, person lookup from its docs (RocketReach docs, September 2026):
curl --request GET \
--url "https://api.rocketreach.co/api/v2/person/lookup?linkedin_url=https://www.linkedin.com/in/jane-doe" \
--header "Api-Key: $ROCKETREACH_API_KEY"The call consumes export credits. If the lookup status is progress, you poll the status endpoint or register a webhook to get the verified emails.
LeadMagic, find a work email from its docs (LeadMagic docs, September 2026):
curl -X POST "https://api.leadmagic.io/v1/people/email-finder" \
-H "X-API-Key: $LEADMAGIC_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{"first_name":"Jane","last_name":"Doe","domain":"acme.com"}'The response carries email, status and credits_consumed. A valid email costs 1 credit. A null status costs nothing.
Limits differ in shape. RocketReach caps the whole API at 10 requests per second and adds per-plan caps. Ultimate allows 100 person lookups a minute and 50,000 a month (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026). LeadMagic allows 600 Email Finder requests a minute, with a burst near 10 a second (LeadMagic docs, September 2026).
Access also differs. LeadMagic's API comes with every paid plan. RocketReach's docs say to email api@rocketreach.co to set up an API plan, and they publish no price for it.
Both ship a hosted MCP server with OAuth. RocketReach exposes 9 tools: search, lookup, email verify and account checks (RocketReach MCP docs, September 2026). LeadMagic's server takes OAuth only and covers email, mobile, company and jobs data (LeadMagic MCP, September 2026).
Pricing
RocketReach sells seats and API credits, and LeadMagic sells a credit pool. Figures use the monthly list price first and the billed-yearly price after it. USD, September 2026. A record below means one work email found.
At 10,000 records a month
LeadMagic. 10,000 emails at 1 credit each is 10,000 credits. Essential has 5,000, so you need Growth: 20,000 credits for $249 a month, or $208 a month billed yearly ($2,490 a year for 240,000 credits) (LeadMagic pricing, September 2026). Misses are free. On monthly billing, unused credits roll over up to 2x the allocation (LeadMagic pricing explained, September 2026).
RocketReach, seat route. Ultimate lists at $209 a month with 1,000 exports a month, as G2's headline reports. One G2 paragraph says 500 (G2, September 2026). 10,000 / 1,000 = 10 seats, and 10 x $209 = $2,090 a month. That is our arithmetic, not a published plan. No billed-yearly figure is shown because that price could not be read first-party.
RocketReach, API route. A professional email is 2 Universal Credits, so 10,000 emails is 20,000 credits (RocketReach credits, September 2026). RocketReach publishes no dollar price per credit and no API plan price. Ask api@rocketreach.co for a quote.
On list prices LeadMagic costs far less at this size. A quote on RocketReach's API route could change that, so ask for one before you decide.
At 1M records a month
LeadMagic. No public 1M price. The top self-serve tier is Ultimate, $849 a month for 100,000 credits, one tenth of 1M. Top-up prices are not published. Enterprise starts at $2,490 a quarter paid upfront, with custom volume pricing (LeadMagic pricing, September 2026).
RocketReach. No public 1M price. The highest published person lookup cap is 200,000 a month on Custom, so 1M lookups is five months of allowance (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026). In credits, 1M professional emails is 2,000,000 Universal Credits, with no dollar price attached.
Do not multiply either rate out to 1M and call it a quote. Both vendors sell that volume by negotiation.
Where RocketReach wins
- A larger stated index. 700M+ professionals against 400M+ for LeadMagic.
- A Chrome extension and a free account. Reps can look people up one at a time from LinkedIn, and a free account gives 5 lookups to test (G2, reported, September 2026).
- A lower entry price. Essentials at $69 a month, reported, against $99 for LeadMagic Essential.
- Healthcare data and standalone verification. NPI enrichment, plus an email verify endpoint at 300 a minute (RocketReach rate limits, September 2026).
- Free re-lookups. A profile you already revealed costs nothing again while the plan is active (RocketReach FAQ, September 2026).
Where LeadMagic wins
- Cheaper at 10,000 emails a month. $249 on Growth against $2,090 on the RocketReach seat route, on list prices.
- API access without a sales email. The REST API and MCP server come with every paid plan.
- Validation and catch-all resolution. One credit pool covers finding, validation at 0.25 credits, mobiles and company data.
- Zero-credit search. People, Company and Jobs search spend no credits on Professional and Ultimate, and in the app on every paid plan (LeadMagic pricing, September 2026).
- Higher lookup throughput. 600 Email Finder requests a minute against 100 person lookups a minute on RocketReach Ultimate.
If you need volume through an API
Both tools meter, and neither prices 1M records. LeadOcean is a people and company data API with an MCP server. Free gives 1,000 records, one-off, with no card. Pro is $499 a month, flat, with no credits and no per-record price. You get 693M people and 63M companies over REST and a 12-tool MCP server, and POST /v1/exports returns up to 50,000 rows per request (LeadOcean exports docs, September 2026). It has no Chrome extension or sequences, so reps who live in one app should keep RocketReach. See pricing.
